Actually, they can. In some jurisdictions, companies asking for bans must put up a bond to compensate the other company in case of lost profits should the verdict find that there is no infringement. One of the benefits of Apple having such a huge cash hoard is that they can offer such bonds, a luxury other companies don't have, and potentially one of the factors that make Apple so much more likely to ask for bans.

Not to nitpick, but I just can't help myself.
This device can actually spin 30 tubes, not 1. So, 7.5x more than a manual centrifuge. I'll give you the other points, but I am genuinely curious as to how important sanitation is in this context. The stated use case is checking for anemia in undeveloped countries, how necessary is sanitizing the centrifuge for that?
Strange. I can't seem to duplicate this from latest firefox on mac/pc, chrome on mac/pc, or safari on mac/pc, or internet explorer with all cookies allowed, all javascript allowed, etc. Maybe something weird with the network I am on?
I did look at the url properties. It was the plain url. A search for "houston chronicle" returns this
Houston Chronicle
right clicking and copying the link location copies "http://www.chron.com"
Where does google do redirects? Doing a normal search, on multiple browsers, both mac and pc, both logged in and not, google search results just contain the direct links.
But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas?

In case you are wondering, Rice is a small university in Houston, TX, and gets regularly squashed by the University of Texas in football, and was the site of that speech.
Does that include cases that are dropped or plea bargained? I would guess that unless they were sure of a conviction, or it was a high profile case, a DA would try to avoid a trial. Trials cost a lot of money, and a DA would probably like to plea bargain any case they aren't positive about. And the accused may be willing to plea bargain even if they are innocent, just to get it over with.
Your example fails in every way possible. First, we have already established that a previous install exists is a tautology. Therefore, Apple does not need to check for a previous install, and does not need the draconian checks that Windows has on upgrade versions, and will happily install itself on a clean hard drive. This provides a much better user experience, without having to prove that the older version exists, either with license keys or checking for an old installation.
Secondly, even if it required a previous installation, you could restore the original version from the recovery disk, and then install the new version. So, in no possible way could this be construed to be your scenario.
Consider this example: I have a Mac with OS 10.4. I buy a new hard drive, put it in, and install from my shiny new OS 10.5 DVD. Knowing that this is a mac, and therefore a previous version of OS X must exist, 10.5 happily installs itself. I also have a PC with windows XP. I buy a new hard drive, and install vista from my shiny upgrade DVD. Before Vista will install, I must prove that I have a valid XP license. I must either put in another license key, or let it install over the old XP system. Now, which system sounds more user friendly to you?
So, if this cost them $3 million, and they took a week's vacation away, his yearly salary must be $156 million. I think I know where I should be looking for a job now.

. If there is a standard, then things like screen readers will easily be able to divide the article text from a navigation section. Imagine telling your computer to read you the article, and not having to wait for it to work it's way past the navigation bar. Or skipping back to the nav bar if you are tired of the article half way through.
I agree. My school actually has a class just like this. One professors plays the role of the customer, and gives us a vague description of a product that he wants. We are then left to organize ourselves, deal with version control, figure out project management, etc. Depending on the year, you either start out with a previous class's project and extend it, or start your own project. The class works very well, and we have a number of corporate sponsorships.
Has there been any study on the impact this causes to the ocean currents? Could too many of these cause the current that keeps Europe temperate to stop? I doubt one plant will have that much effect, but I worry about the people who think that just because there are no emissions, there is no effect on the environment. That energy must be taken out of something.
There's nothing stopping you downloading gcc and installing it yourself.

I'll just leave this here, you can figure out for yourself what's wrong with your statement.

It needs to be harder than that. Sales tax varies by city, and city boundaries and zip codes don't line up.
I had a similar problem with my iPad after the 4.2 update. Turning off push notifications fixed the issue for me.
Windows and glass walls: they seem to be pretty similar, until you want them to open.

They've been apple's problem since they took over porting java to the mac, and prevent sun from writing their own java for mac.
If pasteurization is that important to you, just buy a keg. Most domestic kegs are non pasteurized.

Yes, an apple branded mac which by definition already has OS X installed. Therefore, apple only sells upgrades.
yes. The part of I-10 in western Texas has a limit of 80.

Probably. The alcohol goes away very quickly. Residue on the hands should evaporate, and it goes from the mouth quicker than you might think, about 5 minutes. http://www.cockeyed.com/science/breathalyzer/breat halyser03.shtml
Well, I know I've been dying to try it.

Wouldn't the more appropriate comment be: "In Soviet Russia, the roses stop and smell you!"
We've always been at war with Eastasia.
