Good. There are WAY too many people involved in this company that don't know how to operate in customer service. I'm convinced that no one in the company actually knows anyone else in the company. This exists on multiple levels, consumer/cell/business/fiber. Flashlights wouldn't help them finding their way through an email chain. It's embarrassing that one of the biggest companies in the world can't operate efficiently, OR provide their customers with a quality product, OR provide their customers with additional service to meet the demand (at full price, I'm not even trying to negotiate down here). Washed up, no clue, deal with it. They need a come to Jesus moment. It's unfortunate that they have such a stranglehold on the amount of markets that they do. Hell, their flagship consumer stores don't even answer the phone. This is a telecommunications company....

The $799 model doesnt even come close... This is what I'm talking about right here. You have to make a Dell comparable to a Mac to judge it correctly, which obviously you have not.

This is the problem with PeeCee guys. --- build the identical comparison machine on dell's or sony's website, make the dell and sony do exactly what the mac does, then come talk. They are usually the same price at that point. Apple doesnt sell crap that doesnt do anything for you. They build machines that have wireless and bluetooth, and fast hard drives and such, and if you want it, you buy it, if not, there is no crap, 500 laptop. They dont waste your or their time. Sorry kids....
I hate Virtual PC. I have to use it for like grandMA Offline and Hog PC and such, but it's just so slow. I would really like to see a good Mac based control system, kinda like Light Jockey. It would also be nice to see a visualization program made for Panther, like Wysiwig or Show Designer.
I was talking to a guy from High End at LDI last year, and was asking him if they were going to make a Hog PC for Mac OS X since the Hog console is PPC based now, and he said that they were working on it. Who knows? If you find something that works well, post it.

Do we not get bombarded enough by popups and those completely annoying flash things that crawl across the screen?? How many/.'ers actually pay attention to popups(if u dont have a pop up blocker), and how many of us curse them with disgust?
Hopefully the 'ole Google toolbar and the integrated pop up blocker in Safari will upgrade to block this insanity.
So why can't portable music players be able to play more than one form of digital music? Is it so impossible to have a player that can play both WMA and AAC? Why? Is it possible for companies to make a player that not only can play multiple audio formats but also have the ability to add a codec so you can play additional ones? That's something I'd like to see... by a player... and play any format...
The iPod, and I'm sure many other portable players(though I've not researched any) are capable of playing other formats other than either AAC or WMA. The problem we encounter here is that WMA is a *proprietary* Microsoft format. AAC is just another MPEG standard which anyone can license.
Also, for your info the iPod is able to play MP3, AAC, Protected AAC, Audible, AIFF, and WAV. The one it lacks is the proprietary WMA. The only "lock-in" would be the WMA format.

That is service. Apple took care of the issue before it was indeed and issue. Before however many millions of computers were affected by it.

You know, i find it amazing. Apple has this one problem out of a LONG time and everyone automatically thinks the entire company is useless. Everyday, Microsoft gets sued and has MAJOR viruses, and one time Apple screws up a little bit, everyone flames them.
I will say I am extremely surprised for anything slipping through Apple's QA department, but give them a break, ya know. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes.
You forget, the Xeon machine has dual 3GHZ processors. The G5 has only dual 2 GHZ processors. Combining the processors of each machine, there is a 2GHZ advantage on the Xeons behalf.
I'd say it's far from "optimistic" hype and more towards "holy aluminum shit, batman" hype.
You left out one major factor. The case has been changed to all aluminum, to match the 12 and 17 inch models. This might seem like a small detail, but a friend of mine has first gen 15" TiBook and it is literally falling apart where the plastic border is, and the paint is scratched. The aluminum shell is not painted and is completely aluminum, therefore it will hold up better over the long run. They also moved the ports to the sides, which is alot more convenient. If you have ever tried to disconnect an RJ-45 connector from one of the old 15" Powerbooks, you know exactly what i'm talking about.

Accounting, payroll, the software that controls our machines, etc would all be broken....Apple is not getting a break not only for the reasons mentioned above, but because people already have a tremendous investment in existing infrastructure that they would have to scrap and start from scratch if they wanted Apples.
I dont understand this comment. Quickbooks is made for OS X, MS Office is made for OS X, and they are the EXACT SAME as they are on Windows. Exactly. If you started adding a few macs, you could just plug them into the network and that's all the starting from scratch you need. You would not have to start over for anything. Another thing is this. Think about the say, 5 techs that keep your Windows boxes up and running. Only maybe 2 would be required to keep 50 macs running. There, in just less than a year, the salaries for the 3 people who arent needed anymore - the mac has already paid for itself 3 fold.
I'm a Mac friggin addict and i've only owned a mac for about 3 months now. The more I use this machine(17" Powerbook), the more I fall in love with it. I'm not going to say what everyone else has said 5 times already, but the one thing i've noticed since i've been a mac user is how Apple literally PUSHES the industry along. Not just with the big stuff like the new badass G5 but just little stuff like the Quartz graphics and OpenGL. WHO ELSE thought to make regular desktop video processing be done on the VIDEO PROCESSOR?!? It's brilliant. And rendezvous is awesome as well. But anyhow...
Apple doesnt just sit with their feet on the desk and think of how to make things pretty. They sit around and think of how to make the obvious details work much more effieciently. They make the user(consumer, grandma, hardcore unix programmer, audio, video, graphics professionals, etc) the first and foremost on their list. In a nut shell, they cater to everyone. They make things simple enough to use so anyone can use it (iMovie, iDVD) and they make shit that takes Months to figure out(Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro). They've got something for everyone AND every price range.
What more could you ask for?
