Sometimes an annonymous source is only needed to point the reporter in the right direction so they can check things out for themselves.
I guess thats more of a "tipster" than a source, but whatever.
You have a good point though. A "source" by default isn't valid. It may be validated though even if it is anonymous. After all, the identity alone of the source doesn't make the information valid... does it? Validating the information recieved by a source is the only way to validate a source. That can be done regardless of anononymity.
Evidences like the fact that the QWERTY layout was designed to slow typests down (because they were typing faster than the typewriter could deal with)? (this clearly implies that dvorak would offer a speed improvement)
Too bad Microsoft hasn't copied Apples concept of bundled files (i'm not positive of the exact term) that act as a single file. It really is nice. (and it is used by their 'pages' software in the same way microsoft is zipping files together).
Personally, I think they setled on zip because their xml was so bloated they needed the compression!!
Would you want your children flying a space shuttle that hasn't been properly beta-tested?
Honestly, I agree. In any other post on this site that article should be moderated as flaimbait.
It's a nice case of emotional misdirection which gets you emotionally against children flying spaceships into space, when that isn't the issue at all.
Besides; don't we expect any beta test of space flight to involve flight? So why claim that it isn't beta-tested so we can't/shouldn't fly. As another poster mentioned - space flight will be in beta for a long while to come.
"onboard video is essential" for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Because you don't have to toss an overpriced agp card in the box. Granted a linux box works fine without a video card, but it does have it's uses.
So, if it has to read "machine readable data" from in the passport before it can "unlock" the data on the rfid chip, what is the point?
Why not just read the machine readable data like they do now and skip all the security / privacy implications of RFID tags that might be secure now, and might be insecure tomorrow.
ditto that, except for me it's my personal life that barages me with those tech support questions. I get paid to do it at work, and I get real questions there.
Stupid things like virii and spyware, and windows won't start, and cant get on the internet, and I get to much spam are the things that drive me crazy. I suggest options like firefox and gmail... because they DO make it easier to support a larger set of people with the same resources - or support the same set with fewer resources.
To that end I'm working on #3 and #4 users to switch to mac. Know what? I've seen almost a 90% decrease in support calls from the two who have switched already.
You might see it as a soapbox, We see it as a real-world solution. Oh, and I included the part about switching to macs to show that it isn't about free, it's about fixing the problems.
Interesting point, and well said. There are parts of wordpress code that I don't like; but at the same time I think it follows the principle of being built in a fashion geared towards extensibility. (think plugins, and custom template pages).
Hopefully - as they say - the 1.5 will be even closer to 'code is poetry' all the way around:-)
Sometimes the tools you are forced to use are crap.
I would have made the same choice. If (as a web developer) I was told I had to start writing my web apps using FrontPage, i would give my two weeks notice ASAP. I aplaud the poster for recognizing that he wouldn't be happy before the situation came to it. He made the right choice by moving on while he still had a good atitude.
So why does the government check my ID, and why does the government make all my stuff go through x-ray machines, and why does the government limit me from going down the terminal to say bye to friends?
I've given up on Netflix for any timely availability of recent films....
well DUH!! It's not that they are throttling your account just because they want to spite you, it's because recent films have a higher demand. Havn't you ever been unable to get recent films in blockbuster? This is not really any different. I have been watching 10+ movies a month through netflix for some time now and havn't had any problems. Then again, most of the *recent* movies are crap anyways so perhaphs they are doing you a favor;-)
A good friend recently purchased a 15" sony laptop. When asking the sales droid at best buy why it was so heavy, he got the responce "woah man, that's because it has the PENTIUM 4"... needless to say the laptop is both way to heavy, way to thick, and way to noisy. I have a 17" powerbook, and it's silent except when under heavy cpu usage. Yet even when my friends laptop is on and idle, it sounds like a turbine, and is kicking out some serious hot air.
So we always give him a hard time saying "It's the PENTIUM 4".
The moral of the story is buy anything mac if you want silent... or buy a PENTIUM 4!
A new report out by the US Department of Agriculture says that people who are living a life are 246 time mroe likely to die.
astounding!
It goes on to say that those working with cinder blocks are prone to damage their hands. Someone should look into filing a lawsuit against whoever came up with cinder blocks
RivaVX has a great free tool for encoding FLV (flash movie) files for distribution on the web. It took a 3 MB mov file of a rally car race and reduced it to 300 KB, and the sound / picture quality is pretty good.
I think the reall discussion here is on implementing a policy of using 20% of your time in the way you percieve will best benifit your company. This is 20% of your paid time to work on personal stuff, but to work on un-approved but still good work projects. I have quite a few projects which have been great successes but were originally borne out of me working on something because I thought it needed to be done before it was approved or i was *told* to do it.
That reminds me of two Denial of Service Vulnerabilities which I published in October. Microsoft has yet to do anything about either of them, though they were notified.
The second is an Inline List which will peg the cpu.
While the phishing attempts are serious threats, these two have capability for more mailicious intent. It would be nice if microsoft would patch these.
I agree with most of your points. Especially that you can't read into any inflections over IM regardless of gender like you can with a phone or in person. If the person you are talking to is a good friend, you can normally guess at some of the inflections and sarcasim; but it really stinks for talking to people that are outside of your circle of friends/peers.
I find IM and SMS usefull for situations where phone is unacceptable, like in church, a meeting, or movie; But in general If i have more than a sentance to say i'll use an email or if I want a conversation i'll pick up the phone.
We recently lost the use of IM at work, and i realy missed it durring the first two weeks; but now I realize how much time I was wasting on it. (now I have time to read slashdot *grin* )

Or did you have other evidences?

And... suprisingly this post is on-topic =)

nice clear objective thinking. Thanks

I'm an accountant. Can I have permission/exemption from your decree to do my own taxes?
Get real. Just because you don't know enough about taxes to do your own, please don't assume the same about the rest of us.

But I digress
I have to quote the wordpress moto here
"Code is poetry"
It's what I live by now.
The Difference between Apple and Microsoft:
Apple is flamed by those who don't use or own their products (aside from pricing comments).
Microsoft is flamed by those who use / have used their products.
oh.. everyone has used Microsoft products? that stinks

Is this the same group that did fanimatrix?
Proof that alot of good can come of stem cell research aside from EMBRYONIC stem cells.
Adult stem cells show even more potential despite the media bias that would lend you to believe the oposite.

The first involves an Improperly Closed Tag and will crash the browser.

so should I buy apple or IBM stock?
Is that in jest, or did you not realize the 'read' link from engadget goes to the same site?
