It is they who are forcing their lousy smartTV functions on us. We all know better: they are very slow, they end up being unsupported after a year, they rarely support all the apps that a user may want, and it takes 60s for your TV to "boot up" as a result of the cruft. They are forcing this crap on us in the hopes that we'll find it "good enough". It's not making them any money, so I expect it will eventually be dropped, I don't know anyone who bought a TV because of its "smart" functionality.

When my son walked in to the doctors office and read the sign "Laboratory Access for Technician Use Only" at the age of 4, refused to enter and the staff laughed hysterically, I decided "More good than harm". As a society, we are flawed. Examples of how fatally flawed we are extend well beyond wikipedia. The great leaders proceed on in spite of this, and sometimes, if they're really lucky, get shit done in spite of their detractors (who are often literally trying to kill them). Not every person is capable of that and there's nothing wrong with that, a society of the sort of single minded, goal oriented pricks would can proceed undaunted by the echo chamber of bullies and trolls would not be a great place to live. At the same time, we need our nerds, pedants and our scholars to try to keep the facts straight too, even if they do not always have (and probably would be less effective with) the same qualities that make for great leaders.

If you really want to hurt the wealthy, raise inflation. A lot. This is very practical and something that we can cause to happen by voting certain ways or general civil disobedience. A proud tradition of technical people, from ivory tower scientists to lowly plumbers is often to talk over the heads of the audience, or else to mix in some really terrible and confusing metaphors. Or both, because when you order pancakes, you want them entangled with bacon, at 350 Kelvin to ensure a flavorful protein denaturation.
The reasonable solution is to get more technical people through law school, but technical people frequently have a strong disdain for law or else don't want to let their technical skills go to waste while they learn about hundreds of years of human stupidity, greed, sloth, avarice, malice and precedents set for curbing such behavior therein.
