Not surprising the more money you are expected for your training the more they will charge you. Medicine, law and business (MBA) degrees all cost big bucks with little financial aid except loans. $250k in loans myself.... Thank god for 3.5% fixed interest.
These projects are nice but it looks like homebrew PVRs won't be able to do encoded HDTV signals for a long while. It is really doubtful that DirectTV or Time Warner will release their secret encoding. They will most likely want you to buy HDTV Tivo or the TW equivalent (which is out for selected markets already).
I am a medical student. I still got a few years to decide but looks like surgery is not the way, maybe now I should become an ER doctor. I would be very surprised if they are outsourced in the near future.
If these things are widely deployed I'd be more worried about the threat of terrorists getting their hands on one of these rather than the pollution problem it might cause.
