No, I wouldn't like to have Bill Gates for president, not because he's an atheist, but because he's dishonest. From obvious lies he told[...]
Lying didn't stop others from getting elected (or re-elected, for that matter), why would it stop Billy from becoming president ?:)
But yeah I fullheartedly agree with you, at least in theory.
Bah... in case anything bad happens, we'll just give 200M $ to Bussard to invent a time-travelling machine and send a killer robot with an Austrian accent to terminate Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
If they're so anal about getting the sound "just right", why wouldn't the last step of the install process just ask you to pick a sound scheme out of a set of 10 or so different styles.
Hell they could even be the SAME notes, but with different instruments to suit the user's taste.
As if people care. Grab anyone on the street and ask them about the Sony R00tkit fiaso, and see how many of them know about it.. then count those who actually care.
The fact is that the PS2's top titles have a fanbase like no other. Games like (from the top of my head) Tekken, MGS, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo are enough to make people sell crack to their parents to be able to afford the PS3.
Hell if didn't have friends that could afford it, I would probably buy one myself ^^
Just because you're an expert at Fight Night doesn't mean you can take out Mike Tyson in a real fight... or vice versa.
It's just mindless fun. I don't think it was written anywhere on the box that it would turn you into a guitar god overnight (or if it did, you're an idiot for believing it).
After one month of Kubuntu, I just couldn't take it anymore. Krita was just too... unnatural. I'm not a graphic artist (far from it), but when I picked up the GIMP I was able to find out how to do things by using common sense.
Krita felt really clunky and slow, and the buttons were never where you thought they should be. GIMP is the superior open source tool IMHO.
Well some people find it appopriate to protest in front of TV channel headquarters to get them to change their programming, instead of changing the goddamn channel.
Hell I don't care, if people find time to sue telemarketers, I'm not going to stand in their way. In any other situation I would've agreed with you though:)
Linux distros aren't just a desktop OS, they are an infinitely adaptable and extensible platform, one that I'd like to see taken to new places while these two companies duke it out.
Then again it's not really a fair fight since apparently Oracle's gonna propose much lower prices, flexing its financial muscle to force Red Hat out of the market.
Methinks that at some point we're going to see court action brought forward by Red Hat against Oracle for using "copyrighted code" à la SCO to ensure their survival for an extra 2-3 years.
it would be smart to use some of that money and invest in something new, because at some point people will get tired of WOW.
FYI, some people still play Quake II online... hell, some people still play Quake online. If their dedicated fanbase is large enough to warrant expansions every year or so, then good for them, there's a fixed source of income for you:)
Besides I'm pretty sure they're working on "new" projects, like WoW 2, Warcraft IV, Diablo III, and Starcraft something,. Now all that's missing is a sequel to The Lost Vikings:D
"unless you are a rabid freedom-fighter it is a step above any Linux distribution out there. KDE and GNOME are still a long way away from achieving the polish that Apple has delivered with Mac OS X"
One man's polish is another man's useless eye candy... Some of us enjoy having a simple, uncluttered, low color, high contrast GUI. And a terminal.

why wouldn't you choose BSD over Linux for something like this?
Because Linux is a buzzword, BSD isn't. Unless you use BSD and call it Linux, hoping that nobody from your costumers would know the difference:)
I had the same problem with Kubuntu, and promptly uninstalled it in favour of Vanilla Ubuntu...
However, when I had to get a new PC I thought to myself "let's give Kubuntu another look, maybe it just needs some getting used to"... and I've learned to enjoy it ^^, and now prefer it to Ubuntu ^^
But I must also admit that it probably isn't the best implementation of KDE you will find...
Do you know what "The son of a duck is a floater" means? Neither will U.S. troops or this device.
I cannot emphasize this point enough. Even IF the machine is able to grasp the wildly varying pronounciation of most words from area to area (just see Lebanon, which has at least 20 different "accents" of Arabic), there are way too many sentences that won't mean anything when translated literally.
A very common greeting in the Gulf countries is "Shlo'nak" (that's how they pronounce it, even though technically it is "shou lawnak"), which literally means "what is your color?". Cue 5 African-American Marines pointing their rifles at the poor guy's head, because they thought he was making some kind of local racist slur.
If even a simple hello can be interpreted wrong, then we have a problem:)
In, oh, just over twenty years, which is the time it'll take for the snails to crawl from Spain to menace Tokyo
The distance between Spain and Japan is 10705.50 km.
Knowing that a garden snail moves at around 0.013 m/s, this would mean that it would take him 823 500 000 seconds to cover, or around 9531 days (26+ years).
So we can see that your initial projection of just over twenty years was bang-on ! I can't wait for 2032:D
If you need help to install Ubuntu then you shouldn't be in front of a PC:P
Honestly, I believe that Ubuntu's online resources, wikis and forum, are extremely well maintained, which makes the book a little bit useless. I guess he's catering to those people who just can't do anything without having a hard book next to them to explain everything with pretty pictures.
1- download ISO. 2- Reboot from CD, and click on install 3- Run Automatix. The next time somebody tells you that they use Windows because it's easier to install, slap them with some humanity towards others:D
I have yet to see any major engineering project work perfectly out the door first time[...]
So you're saying that I shouldn't expect buildings to stand the first time they're built? Or cars to drive without breaking down during the first week ? Or those projects aren't as "major" as Windows is?
Bah... in case anything bad happens, we'll just give 200M $ to Bussard to invent a time-travelling machine and send a killer robot with an Austrian accent to terminate Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Battle Kart powaaa !!! :)
Other than that I don't think any game has kept my friends (and me) in front of a tv as much as Winning Eleven

[RIAA representative puts left pinky next to corner of mouth] This year we will lose... 100 BILLION DOLLARS !
Give them Ubuntu Christian Edition! !
