as much as Firefox is years ahead of IE6, OO beta 2 is only adequate compared to MS Office (although it is gaining, it's still playing the traditionnal OSS game of catch-me-up)
Fireworks certainly wasn't meant to compete with Photoshop when it comes to all the features and supported files, but there's one thing it can do that beats the pants out of Adobe's stuff is image export for the web. Image Ready just plain sucks in comparison... and don't get me started on usability, Photoshop is stuck 5 years behind Macrodedia when it comes to palette layouts,...
and why exactly would I want to prevent her amassing hot girl-on-girl porn ?

yes but "70 percent won't run properly unless the user is an administrator" is the main reason I've giving up setting up my gf's account on my xp pro machine as anything other than admin
actually being someone who tweaks Linux on an occasional basis, building a MythTV box is a hairpulling month project at best! Veni Vidi Vici I did not with KnopMyth, so I ended with a sweet w2k + GB-PVR setup in about a day. Although since then it's been a geek's wet dream of progressivly tweaking it to perfection (full remote control, playback of all media types , automated recordings, remote admin, mame, comskip ,... ) I did go overboard on the storage, 370 GB didn't seem that much but it's as unfillable as a gmail account. And I do enjoy a smug face showing it off to all visitors (the HTPC scene isn't exactly thriving in Belgium).
I agree with you on that point, but isn't it more a question of being used to one or the other? Switching to Linux (from Win or Mac) is easier than switching from Win to Mac (or vice-versa) because you can configure it to work like your usual OS. Although being a hardcore Mac hater, I'm ashamed to admit that I do wish there was an OSX Finder equivalent for Windows...
I use GB-pvr in Belgium, works great (plus it run's in win2000, unlike others that only run on XP)
Sorry for being less uber-geek than the Myth & Freevo people, but some of us like to have the thing running rather than spend all there time recompiling to get this '#@#{@#{ soundcard to run
Closed source != bad (and for donations, I made one to Sub, even if he doesn't open it up)
in this case it's all that matters. Let's not even start comparing the number of games available for both platforms, but look at the soft/hardware. But DirectX, 3d sound cards and proper 3d cards (I mean, a 3000 $ G5 comes with a ATI Radeon 9600 XT, please..., and the lower costing ones only come with a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra, like sub $500 PC's from your local supermarket). This is what the industry thinks about Mac gamers... (still a bit of a troll I know, but my colleague is a hardcore mac fanboy and we get into a lot of these discussions)
I tried this in Opera 8 beta, and it seems to render correctly (FF on the other hand makes a pile of cr*p out of it)

for all those who think that the sun shines out of their backside ...
don't forget the prOn industry created online purchasing (they we the first to use it in a widespread fashion , no pun intended)
the first thing I thought of while reading the title was that this must be about a Gameboy emulator on PSP
great offer : 3 for the price of 2 !
Brand loyalty is stronger in people who have paid for something ;)

you BUY the magazine, at least they get that revenue, and as mentionned above, at least some people view the ads which creates mindshare
2....
3. Profit !
have you seen 24 season 3? it's full of G5's and powerbooks even though logic dictates that high tech anti-terrorist group would be running *NIX
no that would be the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers silly !

and how about the unusual amount of Mac screens seen in movies and TV ...

You mean like SP2's security center telling you you're AV software isn't up to date

... to build your own pvr (plug for www.gbpvr.com , great piece of software)
try reading Aldous Huxley's "Brave new world" for deeper approach of the problem.
try media player classic, it works with most .mov and .mp4 files
FYI vivendi is a media group. It owns TV channels, rescord labels and a bit of telecom

try waiting a few more years (troll I know, but games are the one domain where Windows is superior)
