    The story (or at least the preview...damned if I'm gonna actually RTFA) mentioned that it was in Norway.

    I would guess that the demand for an Xbox 360 is lower in Norway than it is in a place where they spell Gamestop without umlats.

    We may not care about malaria at all- but it does give a little insight into Gates...many people have a skewed opinion of him, and this may change that.

    I mean, he wants to Research and Develop malaria!

    Just clear off the entire African continent...they're just a bunch of damn pirates anyway.

    Gates' $258 million will do more for Malaria development than mother nature was able to do in thousands of years...

    Many of the most successful, and historically significant revolutions have taken place in Europe.

    North America saw on successful revolution in the United States, but many, many short-lived revolutions in Mexico. South America has a similar history: short lived revolutions sparking a swing in the opposite direction. Neither side helping out the commoner.

    In Africa they skip the revolution phase, and head straight to genocide.

    The Asian countries have such long histories that most of the revolutions where far, far in the past...beyond the reach of my history knowledge.

    It doesn't really matter, I'll make my standard response here:

    "This looks pretty good- the graphic stuff doesn't really excite me, but I am interested in the way that it will integrate with my portable devices. I really like the move toward the better/more integrated syncing in Windows Media 10, so this should be even better.

    While I am not too concerned about the new features, I wonder what the hardware specs of this will be. I guess I will need to upgrade my computer, but I'll wait on that. I'll probably move to Vista about 12 months after launch. But at work I am in the process of getting a new computer and I'm trying to load it up with everything possible. It's hard to explain to my boss (a gamer) why I need the best possible video card in the workstation I run a text editor on.

    Oh, and I wonder if we'll be able to skin this version of Windows. I eventually liked the bubblegum blue theme, but it took a while. I hope they have a classic (bubblegum blue) mode!"

    There..that's it. This is what I would have said if the article was available. And I would have tried to post it as close to the top of the page as possible (replying to another post which is unrelated) just to whore some Karma...which I've already whored enough of that it doesn't really matter.

    Maybe we should put the People's Republic of Congo in charge of the Internet. They'll provide the type of leadership we need.

    Explanation:

    The United Nations sucks. It is an organization designed to give little countries a voice. They use it to attempt to 'equalize' the world politically. Thier input and support is about zero, yet their expectations are that the rest of the world (G-7+) should be serving their needs...while they treat their own citizens poorly, use tyrannical leadership, and drain the rest of the world of 'loans' that will never be repaid.

    It's a lot like welfare...but in this case the poor outnumber the not-so-poor.

    Do other game companies offer a toll-free support line? I have NEVER seen one. But then again, I never felt the need to call tech support for a game....

    Nothing to worry about here. That temperature change is in CELSIUS...we measure temperature in FARENHEIT, so it won't make a difference in America.

    Find out the regulations on foreign film in France. Or, what about signs in Quebec?

    How many countries in the world have an 'official language?'

    Is the U.S. one of them?

    Freedom of speech isn't just titties on television.

    The world may hate us (The U.S.) for a lot of different reasons. But when it comes to freedom of speech, we are far ahead of most countries.

    I hate people who look down on us idiots who play the lottery. I play the lottery all the time...and I will probably never win.

    But I have a fantasy....I'm at work, in a meeting. There are about 40 people there. I ask everyone, "Hey, who here plays the lottery?" About 2/3's of the people will tell me how stupid the lottery is. The others will say, "I play."

    I will give everyone an envelope based on whether or not the play the lottery. The lottery players will get $10,000. The people who make fun of it will get an empty envelope.

    I will finally vindicate myself.

    But...I have to wait until I win before that can happen...

    Odd, all my high school dreams consist of me banging all of the chicks I was afraid to talk to.

    My 20th year reunion is next year. Like every other schmuck from the class of '86 I plan on going on a diet/exercise plan (yeah, I'll start NEXT week) and look good. Because I want to...umm...what..impress the ladies? Shit, I'm married, I don't really know why I care. Maybe I want to impress the guys...who knows. Either way, if it were up to me we would just break off into groups of sixteen and play Halo. But unfortunately, the reunion committee doesn't see it that way. Fags...

    But either way, whenever I think about high school I think about sex. (MY time in high school, not the girls now...)

    Are you really taking anything said on Slashdot seriously?

    This is a fairly 'closed' environment. Anybody who actually reads it, knows whether or not they will use the software regardless of how somebody rants/raves about it.

    If that weren't the case, we'd ALL be using Macintosh, playing Nintendo and sleeping with Real Dolls.

    Very few (if any) of today's digital cameras will work in 30 years.

    Good thing too...

    But I would rather have 5 digital cameras in that 30 years, that continue to improve, and make my job easier, than to deal with just one film camera.

    And if anyone wants to cite the environmental effects of the throw-away mentality, the film process is far more hazardous than digital. Even 6 digital cameras...

    We don't use film because we have taken film development, negative handling, and scanning completely out of the process.

    When we need something on a very quick turn-around, and then find that the shot we really want is on film...we're screwed.

    Take film out of the equation, and we can ALWAYS manage a quick turn-around.

    Where the heck are you working? A week's paycheck for a PSP?

    Let's say a PSP is $300

    300 x 52 = $15,600. Add about 30% for taxes, and you have $20,280. That's about $9.75 per hour.

    If you are making $9.75 per hour, you should ask your parents to buy you one for Christmas.

    About half of the photographers I know (a good number) use digital exclusively. Now that Digital SLRs are good AND cheap, the others are all planning to move that way. And it isn't just the people I know, here's an outside link.

    While photography isn't usually a life or death industry, it is 'mission critical' to tons of photographers, magazines, ad agencies, etc. etc. So I would say that your statement is incorrect.

    I know I haven't touched a film camera in years, and neither have any of the other photographers at my place of work. In fact, we just made a big deal out of putting our last remaining film camera in a little glass case for posterity.

    Do you really think that Goldeneye is a better game?

    So, if a publisher came out with Goldeneye tomorrow, you would go buy it? Or, would you think, "Oh my god, that looks like crap, and it plays like crap!" Personally, the first thing I would say is, "What? No on-line multi-player?"

    He didn't say, "The best game at the time of it's release."

    Really...go play Goldeneye. Don't sit there and remember how much fun it WAS, judge it for what it IS.

    I think that photorealism and reality are different. Yes of course 'photorealism' has 'realism' in it, but that doesn't mean it has to portray real things, just LOOK real.

    What about a completely realistic looking planet, that isn't our own. It has totally different animals, plants, geology...but it all looks like it could be real.

    The closer to 'real' looking that racing games get, the more real I want them to look.

    And don't forget...there is one thing that people never tire of looking at: people.
