Personally, I played just about every FPS released on the PC from 1999 to 2003. And I ended up liking Xbox Halo and Halo 2 a LOT. Sure, a lot of people don't like it, and that is okay. But then again Halo 2 sold over 6 million copies, while Half-Life 2 is languishing around 2 million.

And just think about the difference in installed base of Xbox vs. PC.

Now there must be SOME reason that 6 million people are willing to buy the game. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that everyone else shares your opinion. As I said, I played just about EVERY FPS released for about 4 years and I still liked it. Was it the BEST? No...but was it a lot of fun? YES!

Also, you say that the Xbox library is 'riding literally on about 10 top games.'

How do you determine this? What are the top games?

Would it be by the way they are rated? Because on Gamerankings.com I could list 100 games, and still be looking at games in the 84th percentile. Games like Ghost Recon, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, TOCA Race Driver 2 are all sitting in the 80-100 spots. Those are all pretty solid games- with at least 79 games ranked above them.

Or- do you only judge a platform by the exclusives? Because exclusive or not, I can play games like Burnout 3, Crimson Skies, Splinter Cell, etc. etc. on my Xbox. If they are not exclusives, it does not take away my enjoyment at all- it just means that people without Xboxes can play them too.

People that judge a console by exclusive titles usually own Gamecubes. They miss out on things like Brothers in Arms, Burnout 3...and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, which was an awesome Xbox exclusive.

Just this weekend I finally ran 1080i for the first time. I was very happily surprised when my TV showed the image in a letterbox format...I was a little worried that it would just chop off the edges.

So my gamble paid off- I've been enjoying a nice big 4:3 TV for a year and a half...and I am ready when the new Xbox comes out with real HD support.

I am a little disappointed that my TV cannot go to 720p. But, at the time I bought my TV there was a huge difference in cost between a 1080i set, and a 720p set.

3 months ago I was very, very excited about the new consoles. And being a big Xbox fan, I was happy that the new Xbox will come out first. I would have bought one on 'opening day,' whenever that may be.

Then I finally signed up for Gamefly- something I have been wanting to do for a long time. And now I see that that the current Xbox has a LOT more legs in it. I will be keeping it for a while, because I have so many games to go through.

Normally (before Gamefly) I would buy games that interested me in the first week they came out. If I didn't get it then, it quickly went off my radar, to be replaced by the 'next big thing.'

Unfortunately I had 3 bad experiences in a row: Call of Duty, NBA Street 3 and Mercenaries. Call of Duty was crap (my opinion), NBA Street was just 'more of the same' (I loved NBA Street 2) and Mercenaries was just...well...boring to me.

But now with Gamefly I have been getting games that I would have previously avoided. I got a few games I didn't like (Super Monkey Ball Deluxe) but I also have gotten some real winners, especially Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (I enjoyed this game more than any since Metal Arms) and Brothers in Arms. BIA was rated highly, but I was avoiding it because I don't like squad based games...but this one works for me.

So now I have the last 3.5 years of Xbox games to pick and choose from- I'm almost in gaming heaven, for only $20/ month.

The only problem is that I do feel bad about this. I used to like spending the money on buying games because I felt that I was really supporting an industry that gives me tons of entertainment. Now I know that the industry is barely making pennies from me. Less money means fewer games...and really, I don't mind paying for good entertainment if it means more will follow- so this is actually the only downside to the deal.

So my enthusiasm for the next generation has gone down, because hundreds of games that I missed have been opened up to me. Like I said before, I actually feel bad about this, because I want to support the industry. But now I guess I'll benefit by waiting until Xbox 2 drops in price.

But- I would still bought it on day 1 if it included and HD DVD player of some sort- but rumor is that it won't.

Or, if it had backward compatibility...rumor is it won't.

If the controllers are compatible, that would help. I've purchased 4 's' controllers and 2 DDR dance pads...I would hate to lose that investment.

Throughout the year, I have a general idea of my budget. I know that I need to pay my bills, put some money into savings and investments, and still have a little bit left over for fun (and games).

I honestly FORGET about my tax refund until some time in March each year. I sit around thinking to myself "oh crap, I gotta do my taxes.." and then I remember "oh yeah, I'm gonna get back like $4,500!" ($4,712 Federal this year, about half of that for State) So to me, it is a little bit like winning the lottery. This is money I use for a vacation, or some new stuff around the house, or maybe just buying some crap to prepare for the summer.

Obviously I should raise the number of deductions I am taking, but that would take the fun out of it. The extra $500 per month wouldn't really make a big difference to me- (my wife would find some use for it anyway). But getting $5,000 at one time is a big enough chunk of change that I can do something that I would not normally do.

Yes, of course any financial manager in the world would tell me that this is a stupid plan. I should take the money, and put it in a bank, earn interest, etc. etc.

But the problem is- I wouldn't do that. I would take my $500 a month, and spend it it two trips to Costco. I would end up with all sorts of high-end stupid junk I really don't need or want. Instead, once a year the government says "oh...here, this is yours" and I think "oh thanks! and start planning a trip to Hawaii.

So, during the year I am fairly responsible...I save, I invest (yeah, that Krispy Kreme stock was a real winner!) but once a year I get a decent sized check that I can use for anything I want...personally, I like that system even if it is not the smartest thing to do.

But the real reason, is that Microsoft wants developers to start using these technologies as soon as possible. If they back-port it to XP, there are already millions of potential customers for software built on the foundation. From my point of view, Apple had a tough time at the beginning with OSX. When a new OSX program cameout that would not run under OS 9, we were stuck with the old version. Then, after upgrading to OSX, we were stuck booting back into OS 9 to run a few programs that weren't compatible.

I had to stay at Motel 6 because every single room at every single hotel (other than Motel 6) was taken. People were coming from all over the place to get in on this revolution.

Dinner, and going out was the same. Even at night-clubs everyone (even the girls) were talking dotcom this or that.

Then my class was actually worse. I was in a room with 19 other students. I was the only non dotcom worker, and the only one not setting his sights on making millions. (I am also probably the only one who still has his/her job.)

I met two people in class who were the 'Head Programmer' in their company, who did not even know SQL- yet they were being entrusted to create the sites that their business plan depended on. Oddly enough, the class was for Oracle Administrators, but there were there to learn how to pull data from a table. That was some sad mis-management.

But what I *hate* is the fact that Firefox drops the vertical scroll bar on a page that is too short to need it.

What happens is that those pixels are now part of the page. So when a site has some pages that are long, and some that are short, the vertical scroll bar appears/disappears. If the page is formatted to be centered, this moves the entire page 6 pixels or so. So instead of a header remaining in the same exact spot, it shifts slightly.
