Often, specifically (if not only) for newer WiFi technologies and when frustrated with their Internet connectivity. Regardless of the fact the real problem is with their ISP and/or computer itself.
Fact is, most consumers never upgrade the firmware on their boxes. The only time it's ever touched is either when setting up a new one, or Geek Squad does it for them. Thus, they get replaced, not upgraded.
Welcome to our ignorant throw-away society. Facts of life.
Let's play a game of Tyrant Dictator. You know, Devil's Advocate. I'll go first.
If I was an evil tyrannical dictator, I would launch a nuke in space just above my own country. The purpose to create a powerful EMP that would short out all electronic devices (rendering them trash) except for the stuff my military uses. Only when my people become subservient again will I *think* about giving them back the opportunity to earn their electronic toys again.
What would you do?
Don't think some regimes give a damn about the welfare and prosperity of their nations, because often they don't.
How about animation like in a Street Fighter 2 game where the character is standing in a fighting pose. Thrown the occasional hadouken...err, I mean chair-throwing and we have a winner!
Give it a rest. It was funny then, but the joke has run stale for quite some time. I'd say we choose an entirely different icon for Microsoft. Suggestions are welcome.
Actually, YES, windmills can explode...in the form of flying debris. But I suspect this was a very early design where the blades couldn't pitch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBYJul2ykZs
You know the old saying. Never judge a book by its cover. While the website sucks, the program is quite nice in fact.
I've never used the commercial version, but I think you can script it for mass PC replacement across the network. But generally if you're a fortune 500 company, your desktop/laptops would be shipped with a corporate image anyways. However, ghosting machines or even going so far as to use a MS Windows sysprep process doesn't work well half the time. Mainly, because newer hardware contains things like Bluetooth, biometric scanners, and a TPM chip. Because the serials are different, the software has to be reinstalled anyways because of the whole public/private keys breaking. Because of such issues where re-imaging machines becomes too much a hassle, PC Decrapifier is a good way to go down an alternate path of new PC deployment.
It's not the life support hardware in of itself that would save money in payload space. It's not having to spend that time testing and verifying *safe* functionality of said life support hardware. That's where the real money will be saved.
Maybe, maybe not. But placing events from a relativistic POV can get complicated real fast. The entire concept makes my head hurt. But imagine 2, 3, or more alien civilizations debating on when a galactic event took place. So yes, I agree. I think all events should be referenced at when they actually took place on-site, not when they are taking place from our locality.
Except Juche never produced anything worthwhile. At least Apple offers products and services that people want.
Mr Jobs can continue his cult of personality for all I care. As long as Apple continues to be successful in the marketplace, I could care less about that man in my everyday life.
I've thought of this as well. Perhaps some sort of online competency test where the score is bound to the phone number of the person calling into tech support. When I worked as a TSR, talking with network savvy people made my job a hell of a lot easier. I could ask questions XYZ and immediately assess the situation or provide the necessary information to help them help themselves. It makes them happier, and it frees up our resources so we can assist the other customers waiting in line.
Of course, I've often had those people calling claiming to be network engineers when in fact they didn't know diddly-squat. I'm guessing they could get what they want by trying to pull that line. All it did was piss me off by wasting my time and that of others customers waiting.
You looking at it all wrong. First and foremost, it's about politics. Pure and simple. By nature, politics is social construct based on an illogical foundation of power and control. So it should not surprise you that when human lives are deemed expendable for a "greater cause", the entire economy of a nation even more so. History is rife with examples the world over.
In short, don't try and make sense of the Net Kill Switch. All you need to understand is that it's about politics. Knowing that should at least save your sanity.
They still lag when it comes to technical support via phone, as they assume all of their customers are techno-illiterate
As an ex-employee of Time Warner in Austin TX, (working TSR dept as of 2006) that's because THEY ARE! That's not an insult, it's simply the facts. And this is in Austin, TX mind you. The Business Class subscribers that call in are much more savvy however. Generally they are the IT guys calling in to get routers and whatnot setup.
Think about the automotive industry where a customer brings their car into the shop? How many automotive-illiterate people do you think they run into? Exactly!
Rush Limbaugh once said that should the "gay gene" ever be found, that group could quickly turn pro-life in the abortion debate. Not sure about the men, but certainly the women homosexual group in a future GATTACA society.
Maybe, maybe not. Two groups of people that breed the most are religious and/or those living in poverty. Either way, it's because they have too much idle time on their hands, and in bed.
Since the dawn of human civilization, we have been more and more productive with our time. We strive to accomplish more activities and goals within the same unit of time here on Earth. We do this because we know our lives are mortal. While we have made a lot of progress toward extending our physical age, we've made even more progress at doing more with time. Everything from our ability to travel by airplane to sending IMs halfway around the world are prime examples.
My point in all this is that we as a species are focusing more toward inner space than outer space. While it's our nature to expand and explore to the outer most regions, most of that energy will always be focused toward the direction that yields the best results for the effort we put into it. Given the natural laws of nature that we understand today, I'm not so sure trekking thousands of light-years just to reach the nearest star is worth it. I'm thinking like most life in the universe, we too will forever be planet bound hear on Planet Earth. Our home.
The Age of Enlightenment has long since been over. It's only going to get worse. Eventually, the world will turn into one giant cluster to something that resembles the Lord of the Flies. And that's just shortly before we nuke ourselves into smithereens.
Actually, I mainly use Firefox 3 on my Win7 desktop and MacBook. But from what I hear, IE9 is supposed to blow the doors off anything when rendering HTML5 off onto the GPU. If true, IE9 would be open just for Slashdot:)
Ya, but wont IE9 render all HTML5 on the GPU? Finally, I wont have to wait so damned long for my CPU to idle and the page render. Err, at least I hope that solves the problem anyways.
Agreed. I like the green white minimalistic theme, but there's way too much space above and below each comment. If you must, please make it a user selectable option. But I prefer the global default be changed back the way it was.
Perhaps if you went through the proper immigration process like every migrant is supposed to be doing, you wouldn't feel this way now would you? And by chance you don't respect following the process, as an American, I expect you to leave. Forcibly if needed.
The USA is not an open-borders country despite the fact the borders aren't very well enforced. If you don't agree, then you wouldn't be living in a country that enforces its southern border more seriously than the USA. Fancy that!

Try PC Decrapifier. http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/
Rather then cracking open that Add/Remove program list, just run this program and it will run through the process for you.

Two words: Time Compression.

Seven deadly sins for a reason. We shouldn't sin.
Lust
Gluttony
Greed

After reading your previous posts. Sir, you are anything but humble. FYI.
When they got the 3D tech worked out 3D Obama was amazing
So the 3DO is making a comeback? Please, say it ain't so!
