On-Demand is ok, provided you have a reliable cable connection being that you're streaming the media as it's being played. With a set-top box, it could download the file before playback starts.

"I wouldn't want to have to add an extra set top box, just to rent movies"

I agree. In fact now that I think about it, the X-Box 360 and PS3 could provide this ability via software update. Now that would be interesting!

Oh come on! Obviously DRM has been abused, and will continue to be. But movie rental is a perfect example of using DRM in a "correct and fair way". I mean, you don't plan on keeping the movie long after you rented it, do you?

No, I think I great idea would be to standardize the system so a user can rent movies online through a set-top box. Sure, using a media console tied to your PC provides more options, but I find it's too complicated for your average user.

It's called "insurance". And with the stakes really high, we can't afford NOT to be looking for a solution. That said however, this should be a global effort. We shouldn't be the only one footing the bill on such a massive undertaking project.

We may not get hit by a giant space rock tomorrow, next week, year...or 100 years from now. But if and when it happens, it will not only shatter the earths crust, but also the very foundation of human civilization. I seriously doubt man will become extinct, but our many nations around the world will fall from its domino effect of destruction. Those that survive will no doubt be jockeying for political power and waging war like tribal men.

Maybe I've watched too many Mad Max movies, but this is a very serious problem that ought not be brushed aside.

Ron Paul is the only Republican who actually would have a chance of winning the general election. Anyone who thinks Giuliani or Romney can win the general election are entirely delusional, as both those are positioning themselves as Bush 2.0 to win the primary.

I suggest you do some polling research on Fred Thompson. (http://www.usaelectionpolls.com) Both Giuliani and Fred have been bouncing between 1st and 2nd place. Fred has the strongest Republican grass roots campaign going for him. Yet, in the past he's been very reluctant to run, but now he's turning around to the idea. For someone getting the least media attention (and not being invited to any debates), he sure has a strong following.

I'm not sure if this is his strategy, but it's best not to join in on the mudslinging fest this early. Just let all the other RINOS (Republicans In Name Only) exhaust each other, then swoop in for the glory 1-2 punches.

Fred doesn't see himself as the next "Reagan" and publicly states as such. But supporters of him think otherwise (myself included). And make no mistake about it; there is a LOT of Fred Thompson supporters in America.

As for Ron Paul, he's nothing more than a Trojan Horse for the anti-war activists. That right there kills his chances at of being elected by republicans.

On the other hand, maybe that's how the aliens that crashed in Roswell NM (1947) found us! We've detonated quite a few bombs in that era acting as an artificial beacon for all to hear in space. Who knows, maybe splitting those atoms creates quantum effect that can be detected as well anywhere in the universe instantaneously. Just a thought...

Put it to you this way. When it comes to achieving economic growth, you must maintain a proper taxation ratio much the same way you must maintain a proper fuel/air ratio in an engine. Tax too much, and you slow down economic growth and further hinder tax revenue. Tax too little, and you end up with a lack of public services being funded (education, fire, police, military...etc). Currently, we are being taxed way too much!!!

Here's a better idea, David. How about we cut the pork spending both this and the previous administrations set in motion.

Just about anything is better than FAT32. But EXT2 better than NTFS? I wouldn't be so sure of that...

I've recently purchased a D-Link DNS-323 NAS storage system (with latest 1.3 firmware). For some strange and bizarre reason, my RAID1 (formatted EXT2) drive gets corrupted when I transfer any files named with Chinese characters. While they will copy over, I'm unable to rename and/or delete these files from the D-Link NAS device.

On my XP machine however, I can delete and rename these files originally named in Chinese. While XP shows them in ASCII characters, at least I can delete and/or rename the files.

I'm not sure exactly where the fault lies, but I suspect it's the file system.
