I agree with you, however if that was the case I think we should remove evolution from the class too. I believe evolution exists, people, cultures, and animals all evolve to the situations around them. However, I have yet to see a monkey turn into a duck or a man grow gills nor have I seen evidence of it. I've seen mankind exterminate species and others adapt to what we did to them, or us create "super bacteria" by killing off the weaker members but neither were really naturally done, more like forced upon them by a superior being.

I think sometimes we forget that there is no way to prove that our theories of dinosaurs are exactly correct, nor is any way for us to prove that Genesis has it right. For all we know dinosaurs breathed in one nostril and out the other in a continual flow of air, and Genesis was written by three ancient hippies smoking something. We really don't know becuase all we have are what both left behind, tradition, and an active imagination. Likewise, we don't have the film of the first days of existance only the marks and traces left behind.

I think it is foolish to say "We figured it out so we can stop looking." I also think it is foolish to close yourself down to a possiblity just because you don't like where it might take you. And those statements I believe applies to both sides of the arguement.

As I understand it, Genesis 1 is about God's relationship with man. The word we translate as day also is translatable as age, but just because it isn't commonly used that way most dismiss it. Again, we don't know what the origin author's intent was and no one will ever be able to establish it definitively. The fact is, if there is a God existing in infinite time and infinite power how do we as finite beings comprehind how he works? Maybe his day one was a billion years, maybe it was twenty seconds. Again, I don't know and I doubt in my lifetime we will figure it out.

To me, how it happened isn't as important as what it means in our relationship between God and man. /rant

The problem is not that the parents are too stupid to notice the letters (although there is an issue with that). The real problem is the way the ESRB rates games. They have the publisher send them a video that is supposed to show all the bad stuff in the game, and they show that video to people who decide the ratings. However, with that system what is there to prevent a publisher (such as Rockstar or Simon & Schuster Interactive) from not sending in the content that would get the a higher rating (such as the "hot coffee" mod or the wet T-Shirt codes).

The simple fact is that the current system is ineffective simply because the people rating the games do not actually play them. Stupid parents will always be a problem, but retarded rating methods can and should be fixed.

They will not fix the problem until the ESRB corrects the way it currently reviews games. They have the publisher send in a video tape of what the publisher says is the "most questionable" content and have people watch the tape. All a game publisher has to do is not send content in for review (most likely what Rockstar did, I personally believe Rockstar wanted someone to find the accidentally left in content). Because the ESRB is too lazy or inept to actually play a game to test it, they never if know for sure if anything other than what they are given is or is not in the game. It is like a movie ratings person giving a movie a PG rating after only watching the trailer. (of course for all I know that is how they give out their ratings)

In case you're not aware, there have been a lot of developments in content management systems since Slashcode was created. A lot of the innovation (thanks to Sharepoint Portal and Frontpage) has happened on the Windows platform where completely overhauling a site is something that can be accomplished in minutes by any decent Windows admin. Hell. You don't even need coders, or HTML designers. All you need is to train your network admin on the use of FrontPage and provide him with a decent media library to choose looks and feels from. But, since you and your buddies here are stuck in the bad old days where everything is tweaked in a text based config file, you've got to make a big deal out of this switch to CSS and claim that it's a big event. It's not and it shouldn't be treated as such. It's just another document and if you really know what you're doing, you'll be able to make the changes from within MS Word. The key is to cut non-essential staff (all Unix admins are non-essential these days). But you keep trying to drag us back to 1970. We'll get you eventually. It's only a matter of time."

Eno2001 then wrote in response to me, "That's my point exactly. The grandparent post seems to have some clue about just how complex these kinds of changes can be and why you can't just point and click your way to a new website with FrontPage or SharePoint Portal."

Splitting up for nearly a month, the re-formed as Red Herring, which became Dead Herring for a while, and then Dead Loss, which reflected the current state of the group. Splitting up again to get their heads together, they reformed a fortnight later as Heads Together, a tight little name which lasted them through a difficult period when their drummer was suspected of suffering from death. It turned out to be only a rumor and they became Dead Together, then Dead Gear, which lead to Dead Donkeys, Lead Donkeys, and the inevitable split up. After nearly ten days, they reformed again as Sole Manier, then Dead Sole, Rock Cod, Turbot, Haddock, White Baith, the Places, Fish, Bream, Mackerel, Salmon, Poached Salmon, Poached Salmon In A White Wine Sauce, Salmon-monia, and Helen Shapiro. This last name, their favorite, had to be dropped following an injunction and they split up again. When they reformed after a recordbreaking two days, they ditched the fishy references and became Dead Monkeys, a name which they stuck with for the rest of their careers. Now, a fortnight later, they've finally split up.

Sure, you don't own any of the songs, but what does it mean anyway - if you really want to own some songs you can buy them (for course, as a Microsoft user, not from Apple, but from some Microsoft-compatible store) and use Napster for the rest.

I guess you never heard of iTunes for Windows or that the iPod is compatible for windows. Now if you are referring to using MS DRM, then you are correct an apple product will not get you very far down that road (but then, who really wants to go down that road?).

It's still cheaper and better than iPod's way as it gives you more choices.

I do not see your arguement, both require you to use their software/hardware setup to access the music. If you do not have an iTunes compatible product then no iTunes, but at the same time if you do not run Napster's software then no Napster. Most work environments are going to frown on running a Napster client at work, especially because of Napster's past history with the RIAA.

Apple, actually, did great so far, but it's easy to see that their product was evolutionary (they did right what others have been trying for years) but in its essence, iPod automatizes things that are so 90's - hoarding MP3s

There is nothing wrong with hoarding MP3's. Personally I would like to have a something to show for all the money I am spending, and having the MP3 file in hand ensures that I will be able to use the music later independent of the company I bought it from. In the Napster model, you basically become Napster's bitch because if you quit handing over cash the music flow stops. At least with the Apple model, once you pay the man you get to walk away if you choose to (burning a CD and storing it).

In order for a trademark infringement, a company has to put their product into the competitors package and sell it as the competitors.

Using your example, Pepsi selling their product in Coke containers would be trademark infringement, but that is not what is happening. What is happening is that Dior is advertising their product to people who happen to be specifically looking for Louis Vuitton. They are not claiming to be Louis Vuitton, but are make themselves known that they are an alternative.

And what is so terrible with someone advertising an alternative to a product? It happens all the time when you go to a store and make a purchase off of a shelf. You do not see Coke products on the other side of the store from Pepsi products, but Coke and Pepsi products next to each other.

More to the point, a trademark is not intended to prevent someone from not being able to describe a product as like Coke, but to prevent someone from packaging a product to look exactly like someone else's. Google's adwords just describe the product, they don't package it as the competitors product.
