I find it interesting that in the face of Indian Outsourcing, a company called *International* Business Machines is my best prospect for a job, that I can think of. I'm going to graduate with a degree in Computer Science in July or August (not sure which one yet). I am cautiously optimistic, and am looking at Boston, MA (I live in Flagstaff, AZ).
I have a modifier to add six points for troll posts, so this actually gets *modded up* to five points on my computer. And at least you got what you asked for. A lot of people think they're trolling and ask for a troll mod, but they get flamebait. Dumbasses.
i picked up a USB headset yesterday for my 11 year old sister, because a bunch of her friends have webcams and headsets. She immediately tried it out with her friends. From what I saw, the quality is still sketchy.
Was she using iSight in conjunction with iChat A/V? I doubt it.
Yeah this looks nice. But what I would really like is to have an Open Source Operating System on my cell phone. They already have 640x480 digital cameras on some sleek models. I would like to be able to take a picture with these and have it go into my Photo-Blog. This could be done by sending the image over e-mail (which might be the way I code it anyway) but I don't want to have to enter things in every time.
But putting this on an iPaq would be sweet. I dunno, though, if I shelled out money for a palmtop, I would probably get the Palm model with the expanding screen. That is nice for viewing pictures and stuff.
When you type the Nazi spelling of the word, Sauwastika, google says "Did you mean Swastika" (the traditional symbol that has been used by many cultures since about 200 A.D.). Politically biased if you axe me.
Well then, I guess you're a lot smarter than I originally figured. Didn't know that. Now that could be an issue. Good thing I prefer BSD/X licences anyway (with or w/o advertising clauses)
Actually, the Xlib code is copyright The Open Group and has their license. XFree86 new license applies only to code which they modified a lot. Basic X client apps contain no XFree86 code, dynamically or statically linked, they contain Open Group Code, that just happens to have been packaged with XFree86. So check your facts before you correct someone.
I for one have never been stressed by SCO's BS. Even if they're right (about their initial claim, not the "millions of lines" claim), the most they could do is force it to be removed, or sue the people that misappropriated it in the first place. IBM could lose a lot of money, but that would just open it up for other Linux contractors such as after I graduate, myself. Besides I don't really think IBM is going to lose. They have been in the legal game a lot longer than SCO has.
Yeah, on a related manner, has anyone else seen Sun's homepage lately? The featured article has to be the most obnoxious I've seen in a while, and it's not even from Scott McNealy, but Schwartz. It is an open letter to IBM saying Sun can help them move away from Microsoft, to Linux, and all they have to do is purchase the Java Desktop System. Yeah, because Sun is really one to talk to IBM about it. Sun is the one afraid to use other tech, this included Linux before and now includes windows. What they don't seem to realize is many times the best tool for the job is on Windows, and driving themselves to fill the feature gaps will keep the company from focusing on the really interesting and useful projects, and Sun will end up creating buggy software. Java Desktop System is a great product, but Sun really needs to be agnostic about what computers its users are using to get the job done, and use the best tool for that particular job money can buy. And before they start worrying about replacing every single Windows product, they should make sure the JVM runs better on Linux and Solaris than on Windows (and not by slowing the Windows version down). Then they can talk about migrating over to Linux.
No, AC, actually you're missing the point. The parent poster doesn't care about GPL compatibility, he just cares about the freedom for the devs not to hassle the users if they don't want to.
I'm not sure it's GPL-compatible, nor do I particularly care if it is or not, but this isn't the same as the original BSD advertising clause at all, and is nowhere near as annoying.
It means that they can't derive their code from the XFree86 code base, which is probably something they wouldn't want to do most of the time anyway. They can link to it, use the documentation, extension API, etc. And both are meant to work well across all unices anyway, so they will mainly want to hear what the X Consortium has to say. Speaking of which, I wonder what license MAS is using? Not interested enough to look it up right now though.
I could be a complete moron, and by the way, I in fact am one, and I prove this to myself again every single day, but the parent poster of your comment was talking about LDD, which checks library dependencies, not LD, which you mentioned, which is the GNU linker, and a necessity for a lot of programs.
Good point. These types of comments are what makes Slashdot what it is. It's just a time-killer, not too different from watching the news on TV. Misinformation, ridiculous opinions, a few smart people, and a lot of stupid people.
Seriously, if the virus not only tries to DOS the site, but sends itself to everyone in your address book and places files on Kazaa for all the windoze xp idiots to install, it will be a lot more successful than a computer that only tries to DOS the site. Hence, the term DDOS is used.
Wish I had so many options for a clever domain name, not to mention all the cool stuff MS is giving him (and yes I would like the certs, and no I am not a Windoze user most of the time, but a Linux user).
Well, I have never had happen in OpenOffice.org what has happened to me several times in MSOffice. I save a document, and when I open it, it crashes for that particular document. The only way around it is to try opening it on another version of Office, copy it, paste it, save it, and open it back in the old version. This is part of the problem with having an unversioned document vary from being 50K to 2MB. MSOffice is not stable in my experience, it is far from it.
I disagree. I wish more people would put up a fight, and then maybe businesses would stop getting worse with each passing year. I have seen clerks get ruder and ruder, to the point that sticking it to them is a perfectly acceptable way to stick it to the man. I'm sure a number of people will know what I am talking about.

Example Here.

Except that the number of people who care what SCO says is roughly the number of people who care what Joe Lieberman says.

You could get laughed out of the office and into the courtroom for such foolishness, my friend.
SCO? Sorry, couldn't resist.

MzScheme can be used as a scripting language, and damned if it doesn't have strict syntax. So can many others.
I've wished that from time to time. Muwhaaha, embrace and extend GNU, become the next Bill Gates!
I hate it when people use the word technologies when what they really mean is software.
Worse? Well, I personally don't find any advantage to either way of doing things. They both can't be used by other apps.
That sounds unpalletable. I mean, convenience is the whole selling point of the Apple Music store. .sig = DNE
