I think Moto would have to say that. As much as people would like to turn this into a conspiracy of Jobs' doing, they forget one hugely important piece - this isn't Apple's phone. This is Moto's phone. They licensed iTunes to run on Moto's phones, and Cingular is using the phone to sell their service. To blame Apple for the failure/success of ROKR is like blaming Apple for the crappiness of HP PCs with iTunes preloaded, or, for that matter, blaming Microsoft for Dell using cheap components.
Nope. Apple has little to do with this now - they licensed iTunes to Motorola, so the ball is in Moto's court to develop decent phones. The RAZR V3i will also supposedly have the 100 song limit and is a little faster but still not so great with the iTunes menus, so I don't think Apple has changed their iTune just yet.
True, but as a ROKR owner, it's not that crappy. Plus, word is that the new RAZR V3i, with iTunes support, also has a 100 song limit. It'll be harder to argue the product was at fault with a RAZR.
Good points. It's much like any good science. Right now we only understand the tip of the iceberg (or the glacier) of climate on a large time scale. I guess the analogy would be the theories on evolution that came out just after Darwin but before modern genetics. And just like evolution, the more we discover, the more theories are refined. I just don't like people who jump on early theories and proclaim fact long before it's due.
This is not exactly a very long time frame, geolocially speaking.
Well if the whole universe was created in six 24 hour days, then at least for me 50 years is a good time frame.
But seriously, this is reminding me of how the number of cancers detected in 2005 is so dramatically more than the number detected in 1940. The real problem is all these statistics - if we wouldn't keep records of these things we wouldn't be able to draw all these conclusions - and no amount of backward extrapolation from various geological records is going to be able to definitively determine the warming/cooling patterns. We know there are ice ages, we know there are not-so-ice ages, but the precise statistics to start drawing causations just isn't there. Geology speaks in time periods of millenia, even thousands of millenia, not years or even centuries.
Whoa whoa, that article is dated yesterday. It can't appear on Slashdot for another two days. Mod it Offtopic, then on Saturday go back and mod it Insightful or Interesting.
You've never heard of Borg Proverbs? Surely if the Vulcans have such great proverbs as "Only Nixon could go to China" and the Klingons such stinging truths as "Revenge is a dish best served cold," then the Borg could have great one-liners like "Locutus assimilating the Collective would be futile."
Maybe he's looking for a broader audience. If you're at MIT, Caltech, IIT, etc., chances are you're already in a technology/computer field. Sure, there are some crazy people that aren't, but if he went to these schools it be like the proverbial Locutus assimilating the collective...
The moral of the story, hire someone to proof-read the code you want to use, just like people hire lawyers to check contracts. I know that I would like to see an increase of demand for programmers.
So what about software that comes without source? I think the greater point the author is trying to bring up is that even for non-free software, like say IE, how are companies held liable for releasing software with security holes? Most EULAs make you accept the software as is and doesn't let you sue the company later if their software causes problems.
(maybe "bank" for my bank for example) which gives me a password of: ?pE94$vw
So could you please elaborate on this and also tell us how you remember other pieces of information, say, like, I don't know, just for example, your PIN, account number, and which bank you use? Just curious...
Can't remember already...

This was even mentioned in a Slashdot story (yesterday I think) about a memo or something from a MS employee.

Java != Javascript
So we should ditch Javascript, but keep Asynchronous Javascript And XML? Isn't that like dumping gas-powered engines but keeping gas-powered cars?
From TFA: "AJAX brings together some hot properties, Javascript, HTML/DHTML and HTML"
So it has DHTML/HTML and HTML? Wow, three HTMLs! Buzzwords ho!
A Star Wars musical and a study on tin foil hats. Why do I keep seeing a major technological university jumping a shark in my head?
What better way to learn where Uzbekistan is, than to invade Iran from it?
Damn CIA leaks...

I don't think you should place a price upon the value of saving civilization.
You've obviously never taken a modern finance course - everything has a price!
Same thing with Linux users.

That is awesome...
Oh, I'm sorry, the correct answer was "an IP lawyer", "an IP lawyer." Well, thanks for playing! We have some wonderful parting gifts for you.
Depends on your time zone...ah the irony.

Just call them Astro-men.
Or how about "explorers?" That seems to be a nice, gender- and nationality-free way of putting it.

Crap, what was the password to view
Hmm, you have many points, but I must disagree. It smells fishy to me, and mostly because while I have smelled fish, I have yet to hear one.
And as a pre-emptive response, dolphins are mammals, not fish, so I stand by the above statement.
