Not sure why that's off topic...I think he raises a valid point in troll like manner. As our phones and the like get more integrated what are the consequences?
This is a really good point and should be modded way up. I wouldn't say he's underestimating OSS or calling it garbage but he's right. If there is a bug in the calculations somewhere, anywhere, you can be screwed big time.
Personally, if I'm going to use tax software (which I don't generally...I guess I do use a calculator:P) then I would find it worth my money to buy software that would take the responsibility for any bugs. OSS just can't offer that, seeing as the software is shipped "As is" and nor should it offer that protection.
"I have also had to walk back into a store to argue over 2 hundred dollars in charges for items I had not bought."
How would you be over charged $200.00 and not realize it and start laughing when the total came up. I would most likely laugh and suggest the clerk have another look.
I mean I understand you were not buying something like a pack of batteries but even multiple items over $200.00 would probably grab my eye. Especially because I would probably pay attention to what's going on when making such a purchase that I wouldn't be on the phone anyways.
And as a side point, that's really rude to talk on a cell phone when being rung out. I'll give you a hint, the clerk didn't accidentally over charge you. Then again, you're name is Dupy...
GNU Flex is prior art. Wouldn't this make it impossible for Macromedia to trademark it? I'm not a lawer nor do I play one on TV but I thought this was the case...
Time to throw all your computers into the ocean in protest of this tax! Get ready for the revolution and be ready to attack on Christmas....when they least suspect it! To glorious battle we go!
Flex is already a GNU tool based on Lex that is used to generate scanner for a compiler or any other thing that needs a scanner to return tokens. Obviously the folks at Macromedia know this, so why did they name it this? Although Flex is open source I would think the name is still copyrighted. This seems like a problem to me and Macromedia should have to change the name.
Lets happen to say you see show #10 on FOX for '24' and it makes you want to see other, earlier episodes. I say you should be able to download them for free. Afterall, you're going to watch the next 14 on TV so why should you have to pay for these earlier ones? This benefits everyone. You get to see the earlier episodes on your time and for free and FOX gets another person watching their ads.
Ahh yes, posting below my own comment. Anyways, sorry that I spelled exactaly wrong as I have this habit of typing the 'l' twice for some reason on that word. Forgive me.
That's exactally the point. They know people like those on Slashdot will see this thing regardless so there is no point in showing this preview during Star Trek or something of that nature. (I don't watch TV much...what's something a nerd would watch?...Adult Swim?)
Use the huge OC crowd that may not see Star Wars and use all the glits you can to convinve them they must see it. Not to mention all the Star Wars freaks will tune into the OC now and at least one of them will watch it again because of this.
I'm wasting my breath as you probably knew this too but were just making a comment. Either way you're AC so deal with it.
I guess I don't watch TV. I really thought it was in March though. Can't remember the last time I watched a local newscast because, as you pointed out, I would probably puke. Thanx for the info though!
I don't have the experiance to tell you if it will matter or not but I would take the 3X pay and higher title. I mean, check everything out first and make sure it's a stable job and not some fly by night crap and go for it. Let your current employer know you really appreciate their offer and if things do not work out you would like to come back perhaps. If you're as good as you say, they will make a space for you. Really, really good programmers are hard to find.
But, you have an opportunity to make some really good scratch right now and hell, take night classes and slowly finish your degree if it's important to you.
Keep inmind though, if your current employer is going to pay for your school, that could be the same as a huge pay raise. Follow your heart but money talks and if you're going to be making that much more, the money is screaming at you.
You can still program on OSS projects, etc. Now your programming becomes a hobby and you can afford a really nice chair to sit in at home.
I'd take the money, considering it seems like a stable position.
I'd go a step further and throw a semantic error if suffeciant comment's were not found before certain constructs. Hell, make them part of the language. Or, at least provide an easier interface for programmers to document their code in a way similar to how many DVD's have the directories commentary attached...

Sucker MC's...hmmm...where have I heard that before? Do you know? I guess it's OK to be a little derivitive, huh.
I imagine the Pat Boone reference is right on. I wouldn't compare this guy to KRS-One, Naz or Eminem for that matter. Maybe Weird Al? He's complex, creative and good after all.
I still use one of the default ring tones, the one that goes "burddt-burdddt". It's identical to what solid snake has on his codec in the Metal Gear Solid games. I use it because when I get calls, I feel like Snake getting more intelligence from HQ! It makes my life really exciting sometimes! I must go now, HQ needs me to pick milk up from the ammo dump....I mean store.
Actually "Profit" is step (4). Step (3) is clearly documented as :
(3)...
It should be noted that this step is vastly important.

It's good to see they were not to be outdone by their rivals.

You usually have to pay to see Jenna so I wouldn't call her a favorite. Hilton on the other hand! Are those *real*?

Yeah, it's like one big, real life version of Survivor. I guess it's reality-reality.

We won't need locker rooms then. Everyone will have their invisable underwear on. Hmm...wasn't there a fairtale that went something like that?..
