The problem: we're the only Western democracy that allows for partisan election commissions.
The problem is your rules have people signing up for one party or another seemingly for life, like a sporting team or a car brand. This seems to compel people to keep supporting that party regardless of what happens. Then everyone seems to wear their political affilliation as a badge, almost like a challenge to anyone else.
In a country (.au) where no-one except hard-core nutjobs actually join a political party, people don't become as attached to any particular party. While people have strong political opinions, it's usually about policy rather than party (occasionally about personality). As a result, I have yet to hear any rumours of the Australian Electoral Commission scrutineers being stacked with Party Members from XYZ. Your more likely to hear of stacking within a political party, but that's usually one group of nutjobs complaining about another group of nutjobs so I think they deserve each other.
If those roots are wrapped around anything, it's off to the surgeon for you! Mine were relatively easy. Others are not so lucky.
One just about popped out before I had time to yell "woddafugareyouoing", the second needed a bit of leverage (east European dentist with his leg on the chair. And this was in Darwin, Australia). A few years later (at a different dentist) the final two needed a bit of jiggling.
The last two were done following a full mouth X-ray, a warning about minor complications (tiny risk of facial nerve damage) and a bunch of local anaesthetic.
That bit about "minor complications" might be why US dentists are so hesitant to do wisdom teeth extractions.
I always plug a mouse into any laptop I'm using. I hate trackpads and I hate those nipply things that some other laptops come with (Toshibas?). Bring back the trackball I say!
I was doing 120 km/h in a 100 kmm/h zone near the Sunshine Coast and a cop pulled me over. When he asked me why I was doing 120, I said "Mate, it's a beautiful day, great and straight road and I was just speeding." He gave me the ticket and I thanked him for doing a great job.
I think he nearly arrested me for excessive happiness:-)
Initially, Iatia had used Professor Nugent's discoveries in microscopes to detect things such as cracks in gas turbine blades and to study Natalie Portman's nipples and other human tissue samples.
Me-Owww! I would think that one of the primary reasons that "cinema in this country is such a vapid fucking wasteland" is that crappy movies are being made for culturally illiterate and intellectually lazy adults. But, hey, the market rules, doesn't it?
I'd much rather see entertaining, interesting, and even thought-provoking, movies like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow being made for kids/young adults than leave the movie making industry in the hands of snobs.
I can't wait to hear your opinion on Dr Seuss books...
And thus, the "invisible hand" of the market would force them out of business, leaving only the hospitals who don't use such shady practices. See? Nothing beyond free market necessary.
I wonder how many people would die while this "invisible hand of the market" worked its equalising magic? This "business" isn't the manufacture of the cheapest widget, it's real life and real death in real time.
People who advocate this sort of approach to employing nurses really don't know what nursing care is about, nor do they appreciate the importance of the nurse-patient relationship in the healing process.
Nurses do not just hand out pills, take temps and change bandages. To let out jobs to the lowest bidder trivialises their work and, rather that addressing it, will ensure that a nursing shortage will remain the norm.
What do you mean by "importing as full DV with iMovie"? iMovie can only import as full DV - there are no choices. Are you importing it with something else as full DV and THEN importing those clips into iMovie? Because that would double your disk space used - iMovie makes a duplicate of whatever you import.
If not that, are you using an 80 minute tape in LP mode?
I use iMovie quite a bit and 1 tape = ~13 GB for me.
I think it depends on who {Evil Corporation} is attacking with their IP patent/lawsuit/business model/pointy stick.
If they are attacking something not close to our hearts, then their action is scored as a 0, rather than a negative.
The results of their attack are also taken into account. If it gives us more stuff, preferably for little or no cost, then that's OK. So MS cloning Clear Channel playlists is OK because even though CC playlists suck, if someone does want that sort of music, this gives them another way of getting it for little or no cost. That's a positive.
Note, however, MS will never score positive. Zero is the best they can hope for on/.
Compare this to the MS versus Apple for music discussions. Apple always scores highly no matter what they do, but having the iTMS as the only outlet and the iPod the only player gives them negative points - more stylish but less choice. MS, being MS, is negative but having a shitload of players to choose from is a big plus. That's why the discussions on this topic on/. are so robust.
I think the key to this is that the crime he is accused of is a crime in the US and Australia. Do we have an established copyright understanding with the US? Yes. Do we have an established extradition treaty with the US? Yes. Could he be tried in Australia for this? Probably. It's now up to the Attorney General do decide whether extradition will proceed. If it doesn't, I'd expect to see a court case in Australia over the copyright transgressions.
Your example of internet sex with a minor is interesting. Not sure if the age you use is relevant because 16 is OK in Australia, and in many states in the US. Let's say 15. The offending Aussie would be in trouble under US laws and Australian laws not because of "virtual sex" (no such crime) but because of "grooming" laws. That would make an extradition application possible.
Living room? Try kitchen. It would be part of the household network, stream music, videos, and the recipe database. IM the kids. All it needs is that TV tuner...
The first iteration of iTunes on Windows was as slow as molasses on my XP machine, which was disappointing because it's pretty snappy on my Mac.
iTunes on Windows is now OK though. To be expected - 1.0 release and all that.
Interesting list.
I think "Archos:iPod" is what you meant and would make it clearer, though.
There are a lot of people who only have one browser window open at a time. Tabbed browsing would just confuse them.
Pop-up blocking, however, would be useful...
Doesn't your version cause a single beep and a continuous printout?
No, it's a hyperadvanced form of BSD. And it's lickable.

The only reason for marriage is so that the human race can continue.
Monogamous marriage was invented so ugly guys could have sex.

This project was batshit nuts
I think that very phrase will appear in the abstract.

Buy one of these and then buy this.
And then buy all that other stuff like cameras and routers and shit.
What the hell was codenamed "Fishbed". I can't stop laughing at the thought of it.
Fishbed fishbed, roly poly fishbed...

Ummm...
Initially, Iatia had used Professor Nugent's discoveries in microscopes to detect things such as cracks in gas turbine blades and to study Natalie Portman's nipples and other human tissue samples.
The cat's dead. Maybe.
Shouldn't it be 24*7/week? Or 168/week?

The real Ralph Yarro posts as Anonymous Coward. Anyone else is an impostor.
But you are not the real Yarro, or you wouldn't be posting as Ralph Yarro. Therefore you must be an impostor, and thus a heretic.
BURN THE HERETIC!
How about: increasing the volume increases the noise more than it increases the signal. :-)
But yours is nice too.

Amen to the touchscreen.

helps if you say it in a Cleese accent
