Secondly, a webserver should (and does by default in any distro I know of) runs as the nobody/httpd/apache/someone user, and does not have a home directory. So any exploit in the web server would not allow you to write a 'la' binary anywhere.
if we want to ever have a decent form of government, we can't have the big corps making all the rules.
I agree, but... electing someone is really expensive. Big Corps have the kind of money it takes to elect a goverment. Well, of course corps will make sure to elect someone who represent 'em... this way, we have the big corps making all the rules... sad.
What is the point to contact people who said that they do not want your product? They already told they are not going to buy things this way. Isn't it just moneey waste for the companys calling people whoi not only will not buy, but get annoyed and starts doing negative publicity?

I for one would feel like I was selling the rights of everyone else for a living. I'm not sure how people can feel "good" about doing something like this.
Well, It is not a breaking new, but there are people in the world capable of killing, practicing genocide, throwing planes into buildings full of other people. I'm sure that finding people willing to gain a buck/hour when it is the computer that is doing all the work will not be that hard. Unfortunelly.:(
Is this another ploy from Microsoft to not look like the bad guy, or do you think they are embracing on the Open Source movement?
MS, as a corporation is amoral. Note that they are not necessarily imoral. They do not have a moral besides making money, like any other corporation. They don't care about movements, comunity or any other thing unless it makes money for then. If they are opening source, it is becouse they think it will make money, either now or in the long run.
So this news is good news, it means that Open Source is *the* bussiness model to go, since all the major corps are going for it (IBM, Novell and, bite me, MS).
2) Recent updates. Something from the 21st century would be nice. Debian's "stable" is positively ancient.
brainstorm:~# cat/etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
deb ftp://ftp.tux.org/pub/java/debian unstable main non-free
brainstorm:~# dpkg -l kdebase
ii kdebase 3.2.1-1 KDE Base..
brainstorm:~#
Pretty recent, huh?
3) If Debian wants more participants, then take a page from Linus -- lose the attitude. I want Linux, not a freakin' religion. We're peers, not apostles.
Them just use it, man! U don't have to be an apostole to put the CD in the drive, intsall, boot and use it! It is a pretty damn good distro AND it worries about political/social questions, but if u don't care about that, fine, it stills a damn good distro!
A good admin doesnt need/. to tell them that their OpenSSL is vulnerable.
I think the point isn't to be told about the vulnerability, since good admins read security/relevant lists that are the appropriate place to be informed quick of such things.
I think the point of this news is to discuss about this vulnerability.
A real tragedy is millions of children dying from hunger in the world. The astronauts were well paid and knew what they were doing, understanding the risks. It is sad, really, but it is not a tragedy, sorry.
t might have just been easier for everyone else to pull out and just reform a different group at a later time.
Except that the credibility of the new group would be very damaged. SCO's FUD worked on that aspect, unfortunally: seem to have killed a nice corporative linux project:(.
Don't most people pay to recive email?
Well, I don't. I use gmail.
will disinfect compromised computers, Microsoft said."
After the damage is done to your files?

/tmp?! (but i see your point)
Not even in
...big corps start to realize that the old bussiness model is dead, and begin to use the new model at their advantage, instead of fighting the tide.

At the rate these sites keep popping up, the bulk of the Internet will be one Reel Big Phish...
nah, this phish will have to eat much spam until they became the bulk of internet...
...does not pay my health.
Maybe there is more in it than just price, ya know...
How about the security updates?

They are a for profit bussiness, what did you expect?
Try this

Thanx God! He did enough damage already in the prequels!

So the latest stable release doesn't have the most bleeding edge components
Exactly. Or it is stable or it is bleeding edge. Choose one.
Well, so? People kills other people all the time. It stills a bad thing, even if it is a commom bad thing.
Well, what is wrong with being from the 70's? A lot of good technologies are from the 70's!
Heck, I'm from the 70's :))

Do you know why they don't laugh at Lucas? Because he created a film series as epic as Star Wars!!
