Sorry, not to be a Microsoft apologist, but if you bought that license with your machine, you didn't buy a full license, you bought the OEM license, which is intended to be used on that machine and that machine only. Because of this restriction, you did not pay the full retail price of Windows.

Many people pay much more then $45 dollars for their OS, hell, even Mandrake and Suse cost more then that if you buy it.

Nobody forces you to buy a computer with Windows on it, yet. If you don't like Microsoft's practices, buy a computer with no OS, or build your own. The vast majority of people would rather pay extra and not have to worry about loading the OS manually. And those who know how to load an OS also usually know where and how to build or buy a system without an OS.

Funny this should come up. I just spent the last day trying to wrestle with setting up a 54g bridge. If a promised feature doesn't work right out of the box, it should't be advertised on the box! First I went with d-link, because the box promised 108 mb speeds, using Super G. Only after I bought 2 of these bridges did I find on their Website in the small print that 108 speeds were not available until I downloaded the firmware upgrade, which was due out in the 3RD QUARTER of 2004!!! This seems like a pretty clear cut case of false advertising. I returned those items and bought 2 netgear 54g bridges, only to find out their was a flaw in the firmware and I needed to upgrade it. No problem, except that their upgrade utility for this bridge only works in Windows. This from a device that promises on the box thats it (and I quote) "works under any OS and any platform." I used one of my servers to run the upgrade and it fried the first one bridge. If this is the future of electronics, I'm very worried.

As the OP said, the ISP he works for does actively shut down accounts of spammers, but it only takes one night for someone to cause a lot of damage. Sure they can shut that account, go through an appeals process with a RBL get of the list, but then 2 months down the road, a completely different spammer does the same thing and it starts all over. Not to mention some RBL's make you wait longer to get of the list for 2nd and 3rd violations, even if it is from 2 different spammers.

Maybe I should force the Post Office not to deliver any email from South Dakota. After all, with all the Credit Card companies located there, I'm sure we could cut down the amount of junk mail offering me great new interest rates.

I see the day when RBL's in the over zealous attempt to stop spam get hit hard for interfering with interstate commerce. I hate spam as much as the next guy, but I think RBL's are the wrong way of dealing with it.
