by addiction we are talking about it causing problems. who cares if you like and want to do something a lot, as long as it doesn't cause problems. it does not cause me problems to play my favorite games now and then... or even to buy a game system with several games and play them with my friends. i can say that it is possible for it to be a problem for some though. but I think there are deeper problems behind that which cause these people to rely on games and personal entertainment so they don't have to deal with the conflicts of other people and daily life. THAT is a problem.... but I don't think the word addiction is suiting... I think antisocial behavior and fear of human interaction are the real culprits.
It'd make life easier if you could upload effects straight to the guitar/mic instead of having to run it through an effects box too.
the problem being 1. 99% of effects box's in existance cannot be uploaded to (you cannot upload new algorithms) 2. the few that can have proprietary formats that only the company that made it can use to create new algorithms (i.e. the Johnson J-Station)... 3. the few that allow algorithm creation are like $3,000 US (i.e. Eventide.).
conclusion: the creation of a guitar you could upload effects algorithms to is unlikely.
Sonic Adventure 2 is one of the funnest games I've ever played... and the best on the Dreamcast IMO. It can be frustrating but is so fun, you will work to get past the frustrating parts.
wasn't that just posted on slashdot and then it dissapeared and this article appeared? a news post talking about redhat's proposal? *POOF!* ?? why would they do that?
!" I say, "whoop-de-friggin-do!" I've got a PC that whoops the Xbox..
The PC does not have many console style games... as far as I've seen. take, for instance, Dead or Alive 3 that's coming out on Xbox... you're not likely to see that on the PC. Also, in order to get Xbox like performance on your PC you have to have a Geforce 3 or the like... pretty pricey if you don't already have one, and in my opinion that may justify the cost of buying a game console. I think that more quality games are made for consoles and often times they are more stable.
to me, the games for the Xbox are much more exciting than the games for gamecube. maybe it's because I'm primarily a PC gamer and not a console gamer... and games like Halo and Oddworld are PC like games. I really want to have an Xbox. But price might convince me to by another system, PS2 or Gamecube. PS2 if the price goes down enough after release of these two new consoles.
that's gotta be the funniest post I've seen on/. yet...

sometimes pre-assebled pc's are cheaper, and you can read what motherboard and manufacturer of video card etc. is in it... so you know you are not getting cheap crap put together for you. why build it if you can get it cheaper assembled?
I made some clam chowder and left it on the stove for a day. Shortly after eating it, a mysteriouse stomache ache began! What was I to do? A rumble arose from the deepest depths of my belly. I knew I had to do something quickly. I ran to the toilet to try and puke up whatever monster had enpregnated me, but stopped.... I saw.... THE PLUNGER! quickly I stuck the plunger to my face and began to clear the intricate plumbing of my inner cavities. To my surprise, up came my clam chowder in the exact same condition it went down. This was when I realized this was no monster.... this was an eternally renewable food supply.

It seems to me that the quality of all the other search engines has been degrading since google started getting bigger. i use to use metacrawler primarily (which polls results from many popular search engines) and i used to get useful stuff. Now if I go back and use it, it doesn't bring up much useful stuff. maybe it's just that my standards are raised since using google.
I posted some tickets for a recent Mariners game on ebay for my older brother who bought them originally. Since it was a time sensitive thing (just before the game) there was no chance to resell when the buyer did not pay up or contact me. I later saw in the buyer's feedback that he had bought tickets from someone else. !@#$!!! guys should get a kick in the pants, he lost me $150.
Next time Qwest calls you, tell them to take you off their list. When the telemarketer asked me if I would let her send me some phone that I didn't want I said, "Uh, no... is there a list that I'm on that you could take me off of?" and she told me yah, she could have me taken off the list.
No doubt they will be looking for files with a certain file extension like.MP3. You could easily make a plugin for Winamp or XMMS that will recognize a file with a different extension.
those were my reactions to the article as well.
perhaps that's why it hasn't seemed like an addiction to me... I pretty much only play quake style games. RPG's bore the hell out of me.

I'll be picking up a PS2 and a bunch of games for the same price.
a bunch of frickin GOOD games too, as apposed to boring Nintendo kiddie crap... not that it isn't fun, it just isn't as immersive..
but still nice to see Linux getting out there more and more."

ah, so they're voluntary
