They don't care, because they don't understand, sometimes willfully so. All this heavy-handed wringing and minutiae about habeas corpus...oh look! Dirty old republican!
Additionally (and not trying to be flamebait), we are talking about Americans and the American media here. I'd like to see how privacy concerns stack up in other countries, the UK being a very good dexample.
I'm as optimistic as the next guy, but to think a videogame will make us more aware and caring about our environment is just pure shit. We have a plethora of other mediums all telling us this and we're still not listening, what makes him think a game can do it?
One family basically only ever watched Charmed on TNT, and then an occasional news broadcast. They really need to start pulling more automated information.
Exactly my point. The Nielsen ratings have been next to useless a long time before the internet got big.
I think I agree. What's wrong with the US intelligence harvesting news source for information?
KNOW there are some extra liberal slashdotters that think this is crazy or an invasion of privacy. But since this is all public, could one of you explain why you think this is bad/immoral/illegal?
Jesus what a shitty argument. Intelligence agencies can read all the damn newspapers they want - I call that common fucking sense.
Intelligence agencies start raking through my mail/phone logs/etc., THAT's invasion of privacy.
at a minumum FF needs to respond by not listing these extensions on their official list on their website
Fuck me that's a little draconian. How about, y'know, reading the user comments under each extension to see if it has any particular problems. Lazy attitudes like that are the reason IE dominates.
It does no good to say "the base browser is fine"
Actually, yes it does, ESPECIALLY when a) the stability gets better, b) new features get implemeted quickly and c) the base install works just fine. Seriously, back in the 1.x days, I was using at least a dozen extensions, now I'm down to 5, thanks to them making the base install better.
For many, many users the whole point of using FF is to be able to use various extensions
It's a selling point, sure, but the reason people use FF is because IT WORKS, quickly and securely. The extensions are icing on the cake and a strawman in your arguments. Last but not least, every single one of you who posts about FF memory problems never fails to forget to post any damn links to back up your assertions.
Now I'll grant you, the mozillazine forums are scary as shit, and any criticism, no matter its validity, is dealt with rather harshly. And I know my experience with FF is of course totally anecdotal, but I've been with it for a while, and as I mentioned earlier, I whale the shit out of it (on a creaky win2k platform, no less), but it just asks for more. How the fuck you people can just sit there and criticize ad nauseam about this shit boggles my mind. If you hate FF, don't use it. Meanwhile, I finally have a (windows) browser that does what I need it to do and I'm going to support the hell out of it.
If it's not a hoax, it's fucking close to one. Sure, back in the 1.x days, problems ensued, but post-1.5 Firefox is freaking ridiculous with the amount of punishment it can take (and i sure do love dishing it out.)
1) Most users use the office suite that was bundled with their computer. Since most users buy their computers pre-configured, they already have their office suite needs fulfilled.
You're right, but for a different reason: Lately, all the cheap MS boxen come shipped with the 60-day Office trial. Most people I've seen don't pay attention to any of the messages expclicitley stating this and just start using the software. 2 months later, the activation kicks in, and they're informed that for a few hundred bucks, they can keep using it.
Guess what happens next? They get a hold of a friend with an MS Office CD and install it.
Maybe if those poor conservatives had actually, y'know, posted a cogent argument instead of whining how liberal/. is, the comment would be a +5? Not to mention the point that if you have all 3 of the branches of government, who the fuck cares about how conservative/. may or may not be? Really, if it's too touchy-feely for you here, go to the Stormfront forums.
And one more thing: One of the main reasons conservatives get so much shit, especially here, is because they're using the same damn whiny arguments they've been using for decades. Unfortunately, times do change, and the cognitive dissonance is just ridiculous.
Yeah, no kidding. Who needs a Tivo when you have Bittorrent?
So what you're saying is you have a problem with an "apples and oranges"-type approach when discussing an apple and an orange?

Well, this guy seems to have a pretty good track record, maybe they could hire him?

You forgot Step 5: Profit!
Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?
Of course the article didn't mention privacy, but GP did, needlessly, which was THE ENTIRE POINT OF MY FUCKING POST.

Now fuck off, troll.
We call it a dictionary in my neck of the woods.
So...It's basically MySpace-type crap then?
4 times the price? Maybe in the US, but here in the third world, 9c/kwh is half what I pay.
Where's the -1 Churlish mod when you need it?
Hey now watch it. Don't mess with Texas!
Or what? You gonna make one of you run for President?
Me and Jethro Bodine; soul brothers.
*sound of other shoe dropping*
Depends on the school and who you are.
Preach on bother man, truer words never spoken and all that. However, gp is slightly correct in that this "advice" is dangerous, at least to some.
Thank you, that's exactly what I was going to say. Bloody English wankers can't handle a little countryside. Or Scotsmen for that matter.
With shenanigans like that, I can now easily see how your country so easily let a functioning retard become president.
I convinced someone to eat a whole Quad Stacker the other day
The point of what?
ROFL, you must be new here, that's my sig.

Excellent! Time for another of my "who pissed in YOUR cocoa puffs this morning?" comments.
Seriously dude,it's an obvious joke.
Yeah, god forbid candidates for the office of the President should participatein a Presidential debate.
Bunch a creepy Santa worshippers, the lot of them...
