    I think you and GP are onto something. Consider: The US, in its infancy, models itself after the biggest guy on the block, the UK, and builds an empire. Mid-century, as you said, the UK is supplanted by the USSR as the biggest competition, and now China. Something to think about. But what happens when the US becomes more and more irrelevant? China vs the EU?

    I don't see anyone getting in an uproar over movies/films that show the terrorist's perspective and are perhaps somewhat sympathetic to their plight. A good example would be the Israel/Palestinian conflict.

    You don't get out much, do you? Seriously, hit up Michell Malkin or Big Hollywood or dozens of other conservative sites to see how prissy American conservatives get when John Wayne doesn't always win the day.

    No no, I see your point, as I did before. It's just that I find, in this post-internet age, the strings, such as they are, have historically failed to manifest themselves. When free becomes nonfree these days, some other version of free always pops up to take its place.

    People would still bitch about it being a non-story, but at least some work would have gone into it. This, however: "Company X makes minor overhead adjustment." Yawn.

    but you would probably be able to be more precise, which in most cases, I think is more important.

    Especially in Europe. I can see joystick control working fine on American streets and highways, but in countries where they have two-lane roads barely the width of two smart cars, I'm not so sure.
