What's worse than finding a whole worm in your Apple? Finding out that the worm got their by simply visiting a website through the platforms default browser. Ouch! Old joke, new spin! Thanks Bil.. I mean, Steve!
M$ is losing out and is quick to point the finger at companies who are succeeding where they have failed and who can blame them? I think Google is here for the long run but that the iPod may very well be on its way out as the leading MP3 device. I think integration with cell phones will be vital if iPod wants to survive the next round. The majority of us will start wanting the cheaper alternative and can sacrafice those eye-catching white cables hanging from our ears and the touch-dial interface. As long as it can hold more than 4GB of MP3s and can play them with relative ease I do not think we are looking for much more. That is unless, of course, it also has a digital camera, web access, instant messaging, and can make and recieve calls, which is what we should expect to see in the next two years.
It seems to me that a few slashdot posters think along the lines "Yeah right! Cell phones with cameras! C'mon everyone knows you have a camera and a phone and you don't mix the two! You cannot get the best of both worlds unless you do!" Yet sales of digital cameras have dropped. Think about it, now cell phone users can look up directions to a restaurant, text message their friends, call a colleague to meet up, send a photo of their son scoring a touchdown, and download the latest American Idol songs to their phone. I am not saying the hard drive MP3 phones are for everyone but they will satisfy a great majority. Enough to sink iPod if Apple doesn't get active in exploiting it early on.
I second that! As a matter of fact I am a Biochemistry student picking up some computer science classes on the side. Not because I do not know anything about computers, but because I needed some academic proof that I really do know what I am doing. Screw a degree in computer science. It is nearly worthless unless it has application or another degree accompanying it. I chose Biochemistry for personal reasons but also because of the impending swell of research being done in the world of the organic. Bioinformatics and computational biology are paving the way in what we know about ourselves, other organisms, and fatal illnesses.
I imagine many others will agree that you cannot just sit for a few hours with a computer scientist and explain the inner workings of the cell just well enough for them to be able to tackle a common problem. Problems in this area require great insight and knowledge about their chemical and biological basis. If you can bring to the table some computer skills you will have, as I have been told by many faculty, a secure job for the next century.
If you like to be on the bleeding edge of technology and you have the money to blow then you will want an SLI board and two GPUs. This article could have been greatly shortened by simply stating a couple of facts: SLI is new, few games support it, other technologies exist that may extinguish SLI, and SLI will likely fade with the times.
Anyone interested in the new nForce 4 and a dual processor (mainly Opteron) setup should check out this article:
I am on pre-order for a Tyan K8WE which is the only board (to my knowledge) that supports two 16x lanes that is fully compatiable with SLI and carries the nForce 4 on board. Myself, I will not be slapping in anything but a 32bit Matrox video card but all the potential is there. This is probably THE board to get if you want Dual Opteron's and want to pickup the nForce 4 chip with SLI.
Try as they might I sincerely doubt, for chemical and psychopharmcological reasons, we would see an anti-psychedelic (most familiar are tryptamines and phenethylamines) vaccination. If they did I would definitely think there would be a decreased or nulled response to anti-psychotics, mono-amine inhibitors, and anti-depressants. I hope I am never wrong on this or we might be seeing "1984" not too long after 2004!
Before I was able to fix everying in RedHat 9, Fedora Core 1 came out, and before I could fix everything in Fedora Core 1, Fedora Core 2 came out. I will bet that by the time I fix everything in Fedora Core 2 they will release Fedora Core 3 no later than 2 days afterwards. Any takers?
C'mon the RIAA is at it's witt's end trying all the loops, bells, and whistles to nab this mp3-a-holics. How pathetic! F*** YOU RIAA! You should have been with the times and seen this coming. Mp3's (and their exchange over the net) did not drop in your laps overnight, they have been here for quite some time, and you were just not ready for all of this. Now you hope in a last ditch effort that sueing the pants off poor college students will work as a scare tatic. I frankly disagree. Oh yeah, IMHO.
I live in Austin, TX the worlds leading city for free WIFI hotspot's and must say after you start wandering around this city and tapping into it's culture you really see the change it is making. Every local business is sprinkled with dozens of people on laptops carrying out net-related tasks. The leader of the revolution here in Austin is a man by the name of Richard MacKinnon, founder of Less Networks and the Austin Wireless City Project (http://www.lessnetworks.com/ and http://austinwirelesscity.org/), and I hope we will all one day (I already am) be indebted to to him and his promotion of free WIFI. This of course is partly in response to the T-Mobile & Starbucks companionship for paid wireless in coffee shops. Austin has free wireless in its public parks and is working to connect more businesses daily. For more on this I have written an article over here: (http://www.johnwyles.com/archives/2004/06/12/aust in_wireless_hot_spots.php).
I know one ISP in particular that shall remain nameless that has closed home user accounts for people using VPN (in some cases but not all). They consider this a business use and request that if these VPN ports are blocked that they will need to purchase the business account (more money) to get these ports opened up. In this case I would agree with the author and say that ISP = Web.
Researchers at MIT have solved the mystery of how water striders propel themselves across water surfaces
I have an old Biology book (1994) that explains why water striders are able to stay afloat on top of the water (due to the interaction amoungst water molecules - van der Walls forces) as well as how they can move along the surface. I think the author should have been a little more careful in his wording of this article.
This is the correct definition I have encountered as well. I think the general public has labled biotech from the former definition although it is not accepted by the professionals in the feild, it seems to work for 99% of everyone else. On a side note, I'm sure it doesn't take much pointing out that this article was very poorly written... Just what is a "killer biotech app" anyway!?
C'mon guys, you know the reason for all this is finding better ways to waste your tax money. *sigh*, Tax dollars going towards Microsoft through a re-seller. Someone over at the army needs to hook these machines up with Lindows or some cheap or possibly free opensource alternative... Aye, but it's all about the money, and the fact that Micro$oft has plenty or pursuading powers...
Stop the madness, SCO please go out of business so I no longer have to hear this boring news about how you are trying to sue the pants off of other bigger better competitors. I would rather read about you on f*ckedcompany.com

Anyone hear or know when will Sunbird be wrapped into this?
(I understand it is a bit behind in development but should probably be at least an option in the bundle installation.)

Aren't there enough articles about Mars to warrant its own category within Slashdot?

Coffee, Hex 7, Real News, and the Daily SCO News. What would my life be like without a routine?
You're right, just discovered it's actually "subsurface vortices" and not what was previously the school of thought. :oP

Shows what poor webdesign can do when you get /.'ed Poor fella' if only he knew what compressed graphics and/or fewer graphics could do!

Is anyone suprised by this, because I'm not... definitely not slashdot worthy...
