hmm I have streaming in Firefox under Linux, though I do use an extension called MediaPlayerConnectivity. No problems after I installed that, unless you count the hunt for the right codecs.
So you think it is okay that people who buy their legitimate, original CDs in a store, get this kind of spyware on their computers? So you think it is okay to treat your legitimate customers as criminals?
Remember, people paid hard cash for the discs, in what do they get in return? Spyware, DRM crap and crippled PCs.
I wouldn't want to live in your world.
Sony needs to bleed for this.
In this case the goal really doesn't justify the means.

Have you looked at the draconian anti-copying measurements that Sony wants to incorporate in the PS3. Say bye-bye to second hand games or even game-rentals. clicky
Upon reading my comment again, I realized I forgot a part...:) the part about the "good decision" was not about the decision to introduce this trash to Europe, but about pulling the rootkit junk from future releases.:)
But if SonyMusic USA is pulling all XCP protection from future releases in the States, why the hell does Sony Europe want to introduce it to Europe? Isn't that just another lawsuit waiting to happen?
I have here an article which specifically stated that the discs with the rootkit on it from Sony will be in store in The Netherlands in 2006. (sorry it's in Dutch)
Does this mean that NL again misses out on an opportunity?:)
No seriously, I think that this is a good decision, but just a tad too late. And I hope that the lawsuits continue, otherwise they will never learn from this.
Sequence of events on new game purchase: ISO all the CD/DVD's Locate the NO-CD crack Store the game(box & disks) in a safe place. play game from the iso's
which would be illegal, at least here in the Netherlands, because this type of 'personal use' backup is apparently only legal for movies and music discs.
but indeed it seems the best way to go. Until the game producers don't learn that this way of doing business is hurting their customers, it is best to do this.
I wonder why a law like this is even necessary. It should be the sole responsibility of the parent, especially with minors! Not the minor should buy the games, but the parent. The government has no dealing into this. Many times people just don't want to take their responsibility, and expect the gov't to regulate some more, and later they argue about that there is too much regulation.
One thing to look at, NASA recently released timelapsed infrared photographs of the surface of Mars, which shows that even Mars is heating up... Us humans can hardly be blamed for that;) (greenhouse effect on Mars?)
Global warming might just be a natural thing:)
Before the ice age there also was a period of global warming, we might be on the 'brink' of another ice age. (relatively speaking of course)
I completely disagree with you there... I used my old domain (which is still up) only for blogging (and not even adult content), but I now get [per day!!!] about 1000 spam messages, and all of them to a non-existant wildcard address on that domain.
I now only glance through it to see if any email gets through that needs to be forwarded to my new emailaddress...
I'm actually quite happy with my PocketPC (Compaq iPaq 3760), it does all I need it to do (note keeping, ebook reader, addressbook, calendar etc.)
I don't need a phone attached to it, and I don't miss not having internet-connection... I can surely live without internet for a couple of days on my holiday. If I want a phone, I'll get a mobile phone. If I want to connect to the internet, there are internetcafes abundant.
Of course I was playing with the idea to replace the MS PocketPC 2002 OS with a Linux based one, but I feared that if something went wrong, it would render the device useless. And for that this little toy was just too expensive.
Doesn't have RIAA something better to do? Like creating awful songs for their crappy artists? Or signing deals with other/new soon-to-be-very-crappy suc^h^h^h artists? Next thing, they will forbid listening to music, because you could _remember_ the songs...
these execs really don't understand it, do they? And bundling less attractive songs with hotpicks? Why not sell the whole damn cd on the net? Oh wait, they already do that!
what's then the point of buying online music if you can only get the same crap you can get at your local cd-store?

slashdot, shaving and sex? no wait, that last one can't be right...
well in this case it's rather more like
1. Install rootkit that contains licensed code without telling users
2. ????
3. Lawsuit!

Let this be an example to the media maffia.
great, and when will TiVo be available in Europe?
Funny, I didn't know Gamespot had any 'offline' stores.
...let's slashdot them.

Not many mediaplayers sold here in NL support Ogg Vorbis. So support for that format in this new device would make it something for me to look at. :)
Wait, do you hear that crackling sound? That is hell freezing over.

In the old days WordPerfect was the standard, and that one got replaced with MSOffice formats... so it _can_ be done with this open standard.

as they are already doing now.
