But it isn't the same people. Saying that Microsoft will cut their prices because Sony cut their prices around the same time several years back makes little sense.
Yes, all three consoles will reduce their price at some time in the future. How much and when depends on the cost of materials (BluRay, HD, chips, etc.), the current market, and their competition. Not on what happened in the past.

Fall of Reach. I thought the second half of that book read like the game.
I didn't read "The Flood" since I hated that level of the game anyhow.;)

I'd feel the same way but Peter Jackson is on a roll right now, hopefully he has at least one more good movie in him.
Also, Halo may just be one of those few games that would work as a movie. The first Halo book, which read almost exactly like the game played, was kind of good (in a cheap sci-fi rip off of Roman history way;)). Better than some books that get made into movies.
Having worked on a 3d engine for the last 7 years the most important advice I can give you is "only invest in a game engine that can do what you need right now".
Every game engine I've seen, ours included, have a list of great upcoming features. But there is no guaranty that any of those features will be implemented by the time you need them (if they are added at all).
For me, it's not that the internet isn't all nice (I accept and, sometimes, enjoy the hell out of that;)), its just that I would like to be able to play a FPS online without being called a fag (or worse) by some 12yo.
The new Live rating system helps but, more times then not, I find myself in a room with "Capt. Shouty and Team Tourette's!". The only solution I've found is removing the headset.
I'm talking out my ass here but, given what I know of the past history of software companies, when you start using lawyers as a key part of your business plan your days are numbered.
Given just how large Microsoft is, they might be able to innovate, open up new markets, and crush their competition with legal action all at the same time. But I think it shows a weakness in their armor that they feel they must spend so much time and money to control Linux.
This is the problems with text communication. I'm guessing when Frank said this he had a big smile on his face and laughed afterwards.
I could be wrong, but I think its far more likely that he was being funny rather than arrogant. And the internet is trying to add drama where there isn't any.;)
True, I wouldn't want everybody in the world to know what I'm doing at all time. I'm actually a very private person and somewhat paranoid. I wouldn't want to tell the world that: "PhoenixOne is trying to find flowers for his mom." but I would like the option to tell my friends "PhoenixOne is playing City of Heroes and is looking to group."
Yeah, micro-transactions is the "killer app" for the marking people. I remember the sick feeling I had when Microsoft announced that the future of gaming would be like cell-phones. You get the basic phone and then pay for every little thing you want "extra".
I tried using XFire some months ago. Good idea, but it didn't work well for me (bugs). I'm probably try it again when I have some time.
On the other hand, if Microsoft makes Live part of IM and it comes bundled with all the new games, I'll be using it automatically (zero effort). IMHO this is XFire's biggest issue (see Netscape vs. IE for an example).
If it is just matchmaking and a score-board, yeah $50 is a bit much. But if Microsoft is hosting the games on their servers and checking to make sure nobody is cheating (as much as you can for PC games), then it might be worth the $4.25 a month they want.
I do agree however, that they *need* the Live interface to be part of Vista and not just something that you run from inside games. Being able to see if my friends are playing a certain game while I'm downloading porn...um, checking my email would be nice.
My bet is that Live Vista will suck for the first couple of months. In a year, it will be acceptable. And in 2 to 3 years it will become the standard. Being able to see that your friend is playing Shadowrun while you are playing WoW will be the killer app.
I'm sure they took stuff out of context (like ignoring the part where Houser talks about the drug rehab program he will have to put his PS3 system programmers into after they finish the project), but the DVD size and lack of harddrive will be an issue for the XBox360 going forward.
Why limit yourself to having to move the hard drive? I want to sit down at any PC, enter a username/password, and have my entire desktop show up exactly like I left it.
I remember being able to do this in the 1990's (workstation). I'm not sure why you couldn't do it better today.

Past performance does not necessarily predict future results.
I thought Gears of War had an good story (not great, but enough to make the fighting seam worthwhile).

I work for the company that makes 3DGameStudio

"Ratings are for the parents who want a rebellious streak in their kids down the road."
No, ratings are a tool to help you decide what is okay for your child. The ESRB ratings don't tell you how to raise your child (and neither will I).

Yes, we've had it on PC for years but very few people have been able to make money from it.
With DRM and micro-transactions you can have all that stuff you use to get for free for a small fee.

It can be a great service and a market lock-in. ;)

Detecting cheating doesn't require access to source code.

I agree with most of that but "small and quiet"? The 360 I own is loud as hell when it loads data and it isn't much smaller than a mid-size PC.
Given how hard the Wii is to find in stores (at least where I live), it may take that long for me to get one.

Not to disrespect somebody's work, but the Smart Pop books I've read had a lot of silly high-school level logic and analysis.
The read much like transcripts of drunk chats with undergrad students. Not that this is always a bad thing. :)
Only if the project doesn't work.
"Hey sonny, do you know that in my day our game machines did...um...I like soup!"

Its come up a dozen times in this thread already, but there was no reason to upgrade to ME when that was released.
