suppose Microsoft really had a wide-open backdoor in EACH & EVERY Windows-based computer in the world, and stored everyone's activity logs someplace, and analysed and crunched the data for whatever purpose.
how much storage space would that require? how many computer cycles would be needed per minute?
even the NSA doesnt store everything that goes through their servers, just the data that is somehow flagged as important...
while it's true that cryptography like this improves security, those encrypted messages are still transmitted between people, and people are not corruption-proof.
with all the useless documents I'm asked to write, I've found a new name for my work:
Vowel Movement
most people are reactionary, not proactive.
another example is gas consumption. people drive gas-guzzlers, then complain when gas prices go up (like right now).
yet they keep driving their gas-guzzlers.
i've seen boats "beached" on dry land, where there used to be a very large lake.
i think one day we'll see trucks rusting on the side of unused roads, due to lack of gas to move them anywhere.
so i'm thankful that there are OS'es out there that can and will be used as backup when the Windows monoculture fails due to too much infection.
I just emailed the NYT with the following:
"You think IRC is bad? Just wait until you see what Slashdot.org is saying about you and your article!"
Next up in tomorrow's edition of the NYT, an 'in-depth' analysis of the Slashdot editorial ethics and comment threads.
In Canada we dont pay tax on the actual lottery prize, but any profit you make from it is taxable.
:-(
But I read an article recently on how Parliament is discussing the possibility of taxing lottery winnings.
i find it strange that the recipient of the prize had to pay the tax on that vehicle...
it's not like Pepsi is a car dealership. wouldnt Pepsi be required to pay the tax on that vehicle when they bought it for their contest?
if so, it'd be double-dipping.
"Mr Spock, the women on your planet are logical. That's the only planet in the galaxy that can make that claim" - Kirk
is a hermaphrodite, male on one side, female on the other.
It's another kind of Transformer. More than meets the eye.
This way I can expand my sexual horizon.
you raise good points, but you cannot deny that the interface is 100% open source, and does not even require ANY operating system to work!
but this is what I use:
go-peach.com/mak02/keihin/m/DSC04271.JPG
it provides a very stable recording media for written data, never crashes and you never have to worry about running out of power!
it's also within a price range that anyone can afford.
the only thing that would make it more cliche is the appearance of a member of the Mon Calamari race proclaiming "IT'S A TRAP!"
funny, yes, but I wonder...

but is that law enforced?
Every journalist knows they shouldnt put all their chickens in the same basket before they're hatched.
the next step in bicycle modding is, having a modded PC case integrated into the bicycle frame, along with some of those bicycle accessories...

Well a BSOD would be hilarious if used on a non-Windows OS...
Imagine playing the game on Linux and getting a "game effect" BSOD.
pfeh
then ATI will release the ATI K-RADEOM XXX800 Pro Double Plus Infinity Plus One, and I'll buy it just to be l33t3r than you.
I've always been a virus-writer-hater, but reading your comments, I'd say you're doing a pretty good job at convincing me that viruses are good...
the enemy [virus writer] of my enemy [spammer], while being useful, is he still my enemy or my friend?
I'm confused.
"The same happened to If, a Norwegian / Swedish insurance company"
that has to be a joke-name, right?
it does make one wonder if there are people out there working on anti-spammer viruses and worms...
are such virus and worms even within the realm of the possible, or are spammers using systems that are by default impervious to cyber-attacks?
"I'm sitting here with my phone ringing off the goddamn hook"
so are you telling us you'd rather let the phone ring and read slashdot and post comments instead?
I would've used the Trace-Buster-Buster-Buster-Buster-Buster.
why not provide shows on bit torrent?
is it because it's harder to advertise?
would people be offended by short adverts played at the beginning of the video files? (eg This Bit Torrent file is brought to you by...)
networks could distribute the seeds across their affiliates to reduce bandwidth cost, etc.
lack of dental hygiene is not the reason why professional hockey players (among others) lose their teeth.
It seems to me as if our North American society is moving away from a scientific society, to a food and entertainment society.
Hollywood is everywhere these days. Ask any kid "what do you want to be when you grow up?"
Chances are the kid will answer "I want to be famous!"
Plus we have cheap fast food at every other streetcorner...
Bread and Circuses anyone?
is human.
