This is very, very true. I have always had suspicions that cats were put on the earth to test gravity by pushing things off desks, counters, tables and staying immobile in one spot for long periods of time.
From Joseph Heller's Catch-22:
"If dropping bombs on the enemy was not a special service, he reflected aloud frequently with the martyred smile of sweet reasonableness that was his loyal confederate in every dispute, then he could not help wondering what in the world was."
-Gen. Peckem
Lets be honest here, anyone dumb enough to think updates come in the mail (even on linux) would most likley happily comply when it spits out "you must be root to apply this patch."
I will agree with you that windows takes ease-of-use over security, though XP and 2003 have taken steps to prevent that. One thing that does cheese me off about windows though, is the fact that programs often have more power than the users that run them. Personally, I don't believe anything should have free run of the registry to dump any of its crap in there.
Although I think accusing the game is stupid, I will concede that there are some times in the game that for certian classes, require 100% attention for extended periods of time (3-4 hours). Many of these cases are not because of guild/raid leader faults, but because of insane rates of spawn in the general area.
This, obviously, does not place blame on the game makers. It does go to show you, though, how people can feel "trapped" into the game in the immediate sense. (Of course, things like the welfare of your child should take precedednce over everything.)
The show was about terrorism in the US and how unprotected we are - and it really gets you thinking
I think it shows quite the opposite, actually. Civillian power is out for a few days, who cares? Emergency power came on in hospitals and other critical places, the affected plants shut down just as they should, no one is panicking and looting. So the terrorists disable one powerplant. As long as it isn't nuclear we're just inconvienced.
I will agree that we need to get more nuclear power plants up and running- technology is being developed that makes them safer, with the waste product being less hazardous
Few slashdotters read the articles/posts before shooting their mouths off, so whats different? Maybe the cow could post more coherently than some people...
Interviews with a large number of Deaf children in particular showed that virtually all of them had been the victim of sexual or physical assault by a caregiver. What we *don't* want is more caregivers -- we don't want more average-bodied folk assuming they know what is best for other intellectually-capable adults. No matter how nice they may start out or seem, for every 1 wonderful person doing it there are 99 monsters.
I find this just a little hard to believe. You say "virtually all" (in, fact you eventually give the statistic of 99%) deaf children are abused. A statistic like this begs for a source, (and possibly a clear definition of 'abuse') because I know people that work with the disabled, and they are certainly not abusing them.
I highly doubt that the Marshall plan would work in Afghanistan and Iraq. The cultures are too different, and they would most likley resent any kind of sustained aid from America. European countries are alot more used to war (and losing) and tend to play nice after they have been beaten, until they can build up their military again that is.
Although I like Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior/Quest, Games like Baldur's Gate, Fallout, and Morrowind completley outclass even the best final fantasies.
Step One: Go to local hospital.
Step Two: Burst in and start looking at people's medical history.
Step Three: Get arrested. (It will take a while, most hospitals have crappy security)
Step Four: Go to jail after your argument fails in court.

Over the course of human history, the previous statments have been proved hundreds of times. The muslims invaded most of northern africa, and some of europe forcibly converting people to their religon. Christians did the same.
Obviously this is not as true today. However, it does not change the fact that one of the main goals of Islam is to spread itself to everyone, the same as christianity.
I still think a little silent alarm trigger (like used in banks) should be given to the pilot. When used, it simply sets the autopilot to a certian altitude and contiunes flying straight, and sends a message to the authorites. Disabling the system after activation could be done after the plane has travelled to a remote point on autopilot and the plane is allowed to land or something.
Microsoft's joysticks always seemed rather flimsy to me. I have an old Thrustmaster (4 button, pov hat) that I beat the shit out of. It has a big rubber thing at the base of the stick so you can really yank it around without hurting it. It always bothered me that the microsoft ones (and others) had that little twig on the bottom that was sure to break or become off-center.
Unfortunatley, my trusty old joystick is nearing its last. Can anyone recommend a sturdy joystick that can take its place?
I can't say that I blame him. Star Trek:TNG was never about action, and thats all people want to see anymore. Nemesis tried to be successful by making a good movie, instead of action and cool effects.
The same can be said for Insurrection. I really liked that movie (though alot of people didn't), it and nemesis were more like episodes than movies.
Little billy's immunization record and the grade on his essay about trains aren't really super-sensitive information.

Quite obviously, they meant J2EE was favored by the linux community. Weither that is true or not is up in the air...

Obviously, you were rejected because you rounded the 520.6 million down instead of up.

3. Add the code into emacs so it can have a civ mode
Don't forget to add it to mozilla too, no one wants it to fall behind in the bloatrace.
Why must we make nouns into verbs. "Benchmark" is not a verb. Instead, the person could have used 'compared' or 'tested against.'
Remeber kids, verbing wierds language.
Wow. If you think Blizzard is the most reliable company, you are a very strange and deluded person. Just look at the rat's nest Bnet has become.
How strong are these passwords. For each blot, might you guess what somebody will see? Some seemed more obvious than others.
Maybe, but then you can randomly generate inkblots fairly easily (With computer or paper.)
Besides, who is going to show you the inkblots they saw, in the order they saw them, yelling "I DARE YOU TO GUESS LOL"

"I'm not gay, but i'll learn"
use lynx to check links like that. Better yet, most suspicious stuff on slashdot should be lynxed.
Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
So, I don't see how you say species follows orders.

Mods, I appreciate the effort, but this stuff is not funny.
It's true.
