the garbage is where they will go, unless they are willing to continue to put up the same $$$ like they did to deploy them. The cameras will suffer HUGE amounts of vandalism and abuse, and unless they use hidden means, or install cameras to watch the cameras,
should not be sending anything but orbiters until we have the tech to survive longer..We should be building SG:Atlantis 'type' agrifarms and de-salinizations plants off the continental shelf now, and when we can survive down there long term, THEN WE START INTO SPACE with people for real, until then we should be building orbital factories for crytalline growth tech and other industries that could benefit hugely from either low/null grav, no pressure, or things that just are too scary to do at home..try the shadowline on Luna. Oh well sounds really straight foward and easy so it can't possibly be so, and will prolly never happen:( In the US, too many greedy companies hoarding info and tech, they'd rather go under and bankrupt with the assets than share any profit.
pay his fine in certificates for more spam, like M$ seems to get away with ?
I work for a large company, many thousand of users and it was announced yesterday that MSIE was a LIABILTTYjust existing on the desktop and will be removed from ALL CORPORATE WORKSTATIONS. They have done some fairly extensive mod'ing to a Firefox build it looked like to me, and arranged an internal update system for redistributable packages from MS in the way of OS/OFFICE updates. May be smoke and mirros in the end but all I can think of is ABOUT FARKING TIME.
especially the one where the interviewee doesn't even say anything just makes a break up the ramp for the gate, and the AF security jock lays out in a full on body tackle. I laughed lemonaid out my nose when I saw that ad... I hope it is good, maybe some NON-BIPEDAL, non-symmetrical aliens:)
There are several enterprise solutions already nicely occupying that niche. Why on God's green and blue planet would ANYONE, even a PHB, even consider AOL IM or MSN as a possible corporate solution ? They have shaky network performance, lack any real security, zero digital cert capabilities, and the proven track record of not one, two, but THREE mismanaged, insecure, and venal companies, all willing to shoot them shelves in the leg for a few pennies as we've seen them do. What makes anyone think they wouldn't shiv any company foolish enough to depend on them.
and there is winning, the world won on metrics as well, but the US is still using the old way. A standard only works if people follow it otherwise it is just a useless rfc:(
used to spend 20-40 a week and read lots, now spend the same 20-40 a week and get 2 to 4 books if I am lucky. Maybe it is just me but books WENT THRU THE ROOF, and the remarkets, with new covers and titles, makes life more difficult. I spend more and more time getting old masters, Geo.O Smith, PK Dick, Norton and Carter just to name a few. I refuse to pay for a hardback anymore, they are just over-priced paperbacks with no life span, and CURSE the trade paper back fad as well:( I do like a lot of the new comic-style work the net has made possible...RedvsBlue Rocks:)
it closed up after several months...somthing about serving burned coffee... Too bad , it sounded like a neat place to take my cable car double mocha and hang out:)
I have a corporate credit card, that is charged AGAINST MY CREDIT RATING SHOULD somthing go wrong, and yet the company won't ensure ontime recompense, so I refuse to use it. When my nextel was and pager were taken I was told to get something and expense it, I decided I did not need to be contacted after hours, and I changed my home number as well, only notifying the human resources deptartment for emergency notifications ONLY. As for broad band, my employer did the same thing, went from paying for a connect and providing a PC to requiring their pristine laptop be used only for work and that no other activity take place on the connection. I then did not apparently use it enough , it was emergency use only, so that when I DID NEED IT, some BONEHEAD ADMIN had cancelled it. I never bothered to get it set up again and have required OVER-TIME for any after hours work since then. I do hardware support so its easier but the same principal applies, if they really want you to have it, someone will hand it to you:)
not on the list and let me tell you our managers are shitting pink twinkies these days and for the first time in a LOOONG time actually listening to tech's vs sales people. We'll see how far it actually goes $$$ wise but if your corp's browser allows for 3rd party or IE installs without prompt and enable any script to run...*shudder*
lie thru your teeth about somthing you know nothing about..WTG US GOVt.
If the data is so bloody critical IT HAD BETTER BE BACKED UP ON A REGULAR BASIS, Make one of the backups available for retore and public perusal, I'd think that 30 day opld data would be sufficient for most uses.
err where did you get that from ?? Each and every one of the examples you gave ALREADY VIOLATES A GIVEN LAW, the point is why re-invent the wheel. In this case I'd just let the punter or place kicker BEAT your A$$, and one of the cheer-leaders keep your car:)
Granted I know what you mean, and I DO SYMPATHIZE, but as an avid FPS shooter and a server host there are easy ways around this crap, a trusted web of admins and players is the best, the UT UID per install is a good idea as well. We ban by UID and then the cheater has to reinstall UT to get around the ban, not permanent but better than IP or nick banning which is useless.
What if you are a laptop user and regularly use the SUSPEND TO DISK function which copies the current RAM image to disk ? Does this imply I can got to the EMI building and just HANG OUT in the lobby and discourage people from entering and using the facility as long as I have a home else where ? If I write a virus in a run time environment, ship it to a server and it never writes to disk that IT IS LEGAL, in Europe at least ?....
*thinks perhaps the brownies were a bit to strong this time, and wanders off mumbling to himself*
there are solutions too numerous to touch on to solve this kind of thing, why re-invent the wheel ? The kind of people who repeatedly get this and don't find a solution are the same kind who buy bridges in Oklahoma, and collect welfare by choice...
OK I might be a bit over the top on that but hyperbole has always been a strong suit of mine. Prevent the install with a technical solution, WE CANNOT LEGISLATE MORALITY. All that does is ensure a cluster-fark of enormous proportions..
A console, be it xbox3.11 or nesMEGA-ULTRA, with conectivity to my pc is the ONLY way I'd ever consider buying one. I realize I am in the minority on this issue, but the current closed game systems remove the best features around a good game, player mods and maps. The lack of control in a console game and environment really bug me. It's like the old quarter arcade, only I have to buy the machine AND PAY a quarter. #1 the console save game standards, I want to save when I want, easily and quickly, not when the developer thinks it is a good time, real life happens and I don't want to sacrifice my present advances because I am not at 'PROPER' save spot.I want to be able to access the game control console and play around, UT servers with no gravity or the accuracy set to wall-eyed drunkard:) Provide that kind of program flexibilty, some control mechanism beyond a game pad (YUCH) and a STANDARD nic interface and I would consider, heck I would have bought an xbox just for HALO. The other big issue I have is related to online play, a company that requires me to verify to play/host a private LAN based based game or requires I play thru their authorized online interface only gets only my scorn and disgust. Farcry is a good example, web access and route to their authentication server is required to host, it would be one thing if they provided dedicated hardware, but this is to even host a private LAN game:( Convergence has been touted but the corporations can seem to give up one iota of potential profit, control or total ownership of everything involved, they starve everyone rather than have a thanksgiving meal and move onward. Profit is good and right, and it drives the market as it should but KARMA is more powerful, subtle and NOT SUBJECT TO FCC regulations.
a soon to be rarity, a ultrasparc chip:) I think I would have gone the ultra10 with some disks myself for half the electricity and much less space but heck it is a plain cool mod job anyway you look at it ? Maybe my alpha 2/400 server HAS a future beyond a ROCK SOLID firewall:)
Apparently most 'MORANS' have crappy ears as well. On my desktop speakers you are quite right, at 128kbps it sounds decent and I can just barely hear the difference from 128 to 160 etc. If however I pipe the sound thru my external decoder to my stereo speakers and hi-fi equipment I can tell the difference right up to 256 VERY EASILY with any MP3 I've ever heard. The poor cymbal/high-hat sound is a dead giveaway. Now I have zero experience with say AAC or some of the other coding schemes which may yield dramatically different results...That said I still have GB's of MP3's, my jukebox is the only way I can get ANY music at work, in-house radio and 1000's of computers stomp all over any sort of radio signal I could get:(
Only if the minor is legally emancipated, otherwise NO contract with a minor has ever been found legally binding in a US criminal court. Civil court is a whole different can of dysfunctional processes applied in a vacuum by people with out a clue, directed by people who who profit from the general lack of understanding. Conflict of interest fails to begin encompase the whole mess.
with no soul, does that makes mozilla a browser with no purpose ? Firefox is a slim great browser, with much potential. Mozilla always seemed to aim for the bloatware market to begin with, and performs like that was the overriding goal:(
quite sometime, like 4 years now. I was not even aware you had to have SBC phone to get their DSL. I have Astound phone service and SBC DSL from way back, static IP and no LAME enternet software. If they force me to change I'll just drop them and keep the covad sdsl connect I have or the Astound fiber/cable connect I have. The DSL service is not the fastest I've seen but is ROCK steady and the downtime is very minimal.
before they abandon the project due to the inordinate cost of maintaining and replacing the camera's. We had them all over out here and they kept getting shot or fried by some high power lasar on the lense. Paint balling them was very popular as well. I ofen wondered just how long it would take them to detect placing a still shot of the same environment over the lense..weeks ?:)
Why bother, clear channel found a legal way around it. Buy the radio stations, issue the top ten list based on AIRTIME, not sales, issue play lists to your radio stations, then sit back touting the TOP 10 list that you created along with verifiable but meaningless measurements. The masses of Sheeple with flock to the record stores to consume.... Venal, Greedy, and short-sighted but still technically legal:(
imply cheaper net ? That logic flies in the face of corporate profit. The greater the demand the higher the charge, and to boot the companies will then bill back the government in some really twisted legal and administrative moves, that ensure the 'de-regulated' industryis still primarily funded by our tax dollars due to the 'critical' nature of the infrastructure, then turned back to these new-age robber barons to to be manipulated for their profit at our expense, again...Why can't the damn companies come up with some peering agreements behind the scene so I as joe user can quit worrying about what FARKING service my 'data' recipients use ? We've payed billions for a VOIP network, and then pay extra so that I can talk to someone who chose not to be IN with verizon but gets better reception with brand x phone company or the increasing potential of a local provider..ie Astound/Seren in Contra Costa, CA and Some other county in Minn. Sigh or the criminal state of long distance calling companies for land lines in CA. The ONLY way I CAN NOT have a traditional long distance provider and be subject to the nickel and dime BS taxes, fees, surcharges, and OMG a 2.00 per month Farking BILLING FEE, is to disconnect my LAND LINE. I have not made a long distance call from my home land line in over 2 years, I use my cell, much better rates + free evening time..so I get the SAME FARKING CHARGES, and taxes + whatever the mobile companies can dream up, to heist from you + the number portability crap, onging for 2 years, for a service my provider STILL claims it can't support. Why don't we give the directory of numbers to an ICAAN or WC3 like group to manage and MAKE the cell companies own up like the DNS companies...holding my 1-800-support number hostage is as detrimental to my business or MORE so than domain jacking etc, or even postal redirecting. Some day the US is gonna wake up and start to take stock and demand an accounting of the hijacking of literally $$trillions$$ via legal loopholes and multinational corporate shell games...be it in cash, or the pound of flesh type. Sadly I think the time for reform via internal process has come and gone, the system has been SO-HIJACKED and derailed by an internal structure designed to complicate and produce expensive conflicts, that even OBVIOUSLY IGNORANT Legislation, that a supreme court justice called refered to as, 'so poorly written and conceived, to ensure further conflict, or obvious criminal malfeanse(sp?) to pay-back a monopolistic industry intent on ensuring we remain in the stone age vs spending some money to develop with new technology. We are actually losing ground here in the US...the new digital TV has failed to produce any significant quality, just allowing the networks to basically tripple the ad time by running multiple streams of the same programming with new ads. US networks are advertising the fact that they only have 12 hours of content per day as a FEATURE, ie the encore showing of the same movie for 3 nights running or the same shows at 01:00 in the as at 13:00, NOW they want to tell me I can't record or time shift digital cable via the 'so-called ' broadcast flag ? How does this IN ANY LIGHT BENEFIT the consumer IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM ?!?! How can the US corporate government have the NERVE to try and justify the fact that I cannot subscribe to directTV canada ? or SKY TV ? If the local slum lord provider can't compete then... "EXPOSE THE CORPORATES AND FEED THEM TO THE CHILDREN"
The US revolt from GB was as much about the chartered companies, read corpations abuses and the the crowns failure to hold them responsible for there actions as it was about the British crown. If the King had made Geo Washington, Earl of New cumerland or some such, and given the 'new' nobles the right to censure the chartered companies the US would still be part of GB in, as a protectorate of voluntary member like the Scott's or Canada. We want royalty here in the US SO BAD we can taste it....and All Geo Washington wanted was a chance to make it good, the propects of a distant son,
If some nitwit company cannot find a way to enhance the service and make a buck, who cares, let them go under. If the big MONOPOLY phone and network companies can't figure a way to make a profit again WHO CARES beside the FCC and the new right to corporate profit people ? I'd love to see the big huge telco's go belly up, they've been jacking the US public for YEARS for services we've already payed for, denying the US simple interoperability services with LIES, SCAMS and plain thievery. Either they adapt or they go the way of the DINOSAUR. With the net and VOIP I can be a phone company, and a wireless provider for less money and provide a better class of service chaeper....SCREW EM...
