Something I've learned as an old IT guy is that employee comfort is very under-rated. How comfortable an employee is with their work space is critical to productivity. I'm talking everything from the chair they sit in to what's on their monitor. If they're comfortable with windows and office and become uncomfortable with gmail and open office then you'll just kill productivity and whatever money you saved will be meaningless.
In other words you can't tell the difference between the name of a weapon and a description of war? Are you saying you don't think we've improved at all since the carpet bombing days of WWII?
Hate to break it to you but the tea party formed way before any politician or media outlet even knew what it was. The original organizers even banned Republican politicians from speaking at the first meets. Not sure what universe you're living in if you think people who are opposed to our government wasting our money need to be told what to think and say.
Someone forgot their meds today. Ask yourself this question, if a government really does want to take your freedom away, do they do it with a set of laws that have expiration dates?
There are permanent laws being passed that do not have expiration dates and will take away people's freedom. Maybe you should worry about those instead.
That's called a testimony, when you tell others about your own experiences, beliefs and faith. Are you suggesting that there's something wrong with sharing your own personal life experiences to others, regardless of what they are?
To gain your own belief and faith you have to pray and experience it for yourself. In Christianity there is no such thing as faith through hearsay. It also helps if you actually study your own religion and understand it. So many don't.
God gave us the freedom to make our own choices in life and some people make very poor ones, including the choice to use religion for their own purposes or try and force others to believe as they do. You can't judge a religion by looking at those who don't follow it's rules.
I'm confronted with people who try and force their beliefs down my throat all the time. Vegetarians, vegans, gays, straights, liberals, libertarians, conservatives, and many others are far more guilty of it than Christians. It used to be the other way around but the last 10 years has changed that. I get harassed for eating meat by vegans 50 times for every one time I get harassed by a Christian.
I have an older machine (Pent 4 3ghz) and I decided to install linux on it so I could give it to someone, since I don't have windows licenses to hand out. I downloaded the Ubuntu cd iso and tried to burn it. Guess what? It's too big. Went and checked and sure enough it says it's a cd, not a dvd.
What the hell?
So I do some searching and find several pages that explain in many steps how to burn an iso that's too big to fit on a cd. Are you serious?
So I do some more searching and find instructions to make an install USB. This board supports booting from USB so great, I'll try it. I get the USB made and try to boot and it starts then crashes. Great.
So I do some more searching and find a minimal install cd that's actually small enough to fit on a cd. Get the install going and I get to the screen where you choose the packages. I check a few like audio editing and video editing and choose the Ubuntu desktop and the install crashes and sends me back to the start. I spent about an hour checking and unchecking packages trying to find the one that's crashing. Discover it's the Ubuntu desktop doing it so I choose a different one.
So now I've spent a good four days trying to figure out how to install this stupid free operating system only to get kicked in the balls repeatedly. I finally get it up and get the desktop. I poke around a bit then realize I now can no longer use all the software I already know, am familiar with, and like to use. Not only that, but if I give it to someone they're going to have problems and they're going to ask me how to fix it and I'm not going to know what to tell them.
So I say screw it, throw in an XP cd and a couple hours and no errors later I have a working machine that I'll just keep instead of being nice and giving away.
So yeah, it can be hard to burn an ISO in 2010, and that can only be the beginning of your difficulties.
You speak as if we've never had an economic crisis before. The very first thing you do in a crisis is tell everyone that everything will be okay. The dems did not do this. They immediately began to preach doom and gloom. Every single time they did this the stock market dropped shortly after because a big chunk of our economy is based on faith. When people believe everything will be okay then they don't panic nearly as badly.
Check the news history and compare it to the stock market. The dems consistently made the problem they created in the first place worse.
Please also tell me any time in history that bailouts have actually worked. They never have, and the continuing worsening of the economy proves that they still don't. It's trivial common knowledge that you can't spend your way out of debt. It's beyond retarded that anyone could possibly think that the bailouts are doing anything but making the problems worse.
Remember the tech bubble burst in the 90's? What was the first thing the Republicans did? They told everyone don't worry, everything will be fine. That was a huge crash and it didn't take but a few weeks for recovery to begin. It's been how long now since the housing crash and the economy is still crashing. Unemployment is still rising. Even the scam the census bureau pulled didn't help the numbers, by firing and rehiring the same people over and over and counting each time as a new hire.
Another thing you're so horribly wrong about, conservatives generally are not moved by emotion. People that do are usually liberals and is one of them main things that separates the two. That's why you rarely see conservatives out protesting and starting riots like libs do, because we prefer to use our brains, to research, and to make our voices heard at the voting booth. It really takes a lot to get us out in numbers. The socialist policies Obama has been pushing along with all the wasted money in the bailouts was more than enough to do it.
Try going to a tea party event and actually talking to people in real life instead of parroting CNN and MSNBC. You might learn something. Contrary to popular liberal belief, it is beneficial to speak to those with different opinions than yours instead of demonizing them and treating them like second class citizens who don't deserve to speak their minds.
Go back and take basic government and basic economics, then go look at the actual economic numbers for the past 10 years.
The President has very little control over the economy. That power belongs to Congress. The actual economic numbers say we were doing great until 2006 when the Democrats took control of Congress. They immediately set forth destroying the economy all the while blaming Bush for it. They got away with it because there are so many people just like you that completely fail to understand the basics of how everything works.
It's also a proven fact that the tax cuts to the rich not only improved the economy but total tax revenue went up. Did you understand that? The total amount of taxes we collected went UP after we cut taxes on the rich. Again, basic economics that you fail to understand.
It's also been the Democrats who consistently blocked efforts to prevent the housing meltdown. Even Clinton tried to prevent it but was blocked by his own party. Again, simple facts you completely fail to grasp.
You need to watch CSPAN more often if you don't think that Democrat politicians regularly referred to Bush and other Republicans by those terms. They still do to this day with the help of the media, especially with those associated with the tea party movement.
Look at the long list of people he's appointed that have no respect for ethics, morality, or the law and it should be trivial to see that it's all been deliberate.
Still waiting for an anti-tea party person to explain why they so violently attack anyone who opposes the wasting of tax dollars on bailouts for the banks. Is there something about spending trillions of dollars that we don't have to make rich bankers even richer that is so incredibly emotionally stirring that you get all violent thinking about someone who is against it?
Or are you just ignorantly parroting CNN and MSNBC without having a clue what the tea party is about and why it started? There are both liberals and conservatives, whites and blacks, and many other people that fall on both ends of many spectrum in the tea party. It's usually necessary to understand something at least a little before harboring such immense amounts of anger and hatred for it.
If the job isn't finished, then no. It's gross negligence. It's impossible to predict when a job of this size will be finished. Do you need to be reminded what happened to Somalia when we left before the job was done? Do you need to be reminded of the millions who have died since then as a result?
We already have hydrogen cars. It uses fuel comprised of 16 hydrogen atoms stored on 7 carbon atoms. It's far safer than straight hydrogen and there are millions of places to refuel all across the world.
It's cheap because not many people are charging their electric cars at night. That will change real fast, and the same grid that can't handle everyone running their air conditioner will collapse under the load.
You've never seen a beggar? A lot of people make a lot of money by simply begging, without ever having employment.
If you want land then you can work for it. I know a lot of people who worked hard so their kids could have land to live on. Just because you're lazy and think you're entitled to free stuff without you or your parents working for it doesn't mean there are no alternatives.
Yeah, except for that part where in places like the USA, ANYONE can start a business. The only thing that exists that can make people powerless is their own laziness.
So when you grow a garden, you only grow exactly how much food you need to eat an no more, because producing extra profit is evil right? You seem to not understand what capitalism and free markets are.
You're leaving out the part that says anyone, regardless of class, race, sex, or anything can, if they choose, pursue as much profit as they wish. You don't even have to work if you don't want to. You can choose to sit on a corner and beg like a lot of people do. Capitalism and free markets are essential to freedom.
When government takes my work away from me in the form of taxes and uses it for schools, police, or fire departments, I don't really mind. It beats going out and actually helping build a road myself. Instead of working on a sewer system, I can do other work that I freely choose to do and trade that work in the form of money for a sewer system. Everyone benefits, including me, and I get something in exchange for my work.
Under socialism, when government takes my money and gives it to another person without giving me anything in return, that is no different than forcing me to work for that person for free, getting nothing in return. That is the very definition of slavery.
Unfortunately, there are lots of people out there who believe slavery is superior to freedom.
It won't enable green tech. It will just make expensive sources of energy relatively cheap. It will also devastate the poor when it happens too. We have to use whatever energy is the cheapest and most abundant. Not doing so is a death sentence to people who don't make that much money.
Green tech will take off when someone figures out a way to create energy that's more plentiful and cheaper than oil, coal, or gas. Until then it's simply not viable. Our current "green" tech can't even survive on it's own without subsidies. It's nothing more than the stuff of fantasies.
Look around you. I bet you can't find a single thing that was not made with nor shipped with oil. Green tech will never completely replace oil. It's one of the most useful resources we've ever found. It won't be replaced until we invent star trek replicators.
That is set to reverse. The price of wood has dropped so low here in the south that many timber companies can't afford to stay in business and the huge plots of land they grew trees on are in danger of being sold. If that happens, they will most likely be cleared for development or cattle and will never again grow forests.
I live in an area surrounded by forests that are planted and cleared for use by lumber companies and paper mills. We fear the closing of lumber companies because it will mean our forests will start shrinking.
The really sad part about it, is the huge number of enviro-nutbags that want lumber companies out of business in a completely backwards effort to "save the forests."
I really want to get a tshirt that says "Save the trees! Use more paper!"
The LG Xenon has a file in the system folders that stores every single text you send and recieve. It was found by a guy who was trying to figure out how to mod the phone and is described on the LG Xenon forums. Your cell phone carrier and the manufacturer of the phone you use know a whole lot more than you can possibly imagine.
My wife was on welfare before we were married. I've been in the offices and talked to a lot of people. Where you get the notion that the lazy make up a miniscule percentage is beyond me.
Most of the people there were there by choice, not because they had an actual need. About 90% of all the conversations I overheard were about the best ways to work the system and avoid being kicked off. Whoever told you the number of lazy people on welfare was miniscule was full of crap. The number of people who have an actual need is what's miniscule.
I can also say as someone who ran a business was that about 75% of all the applications I got were from people who had no intention of actually getting a job, but just needed me to tell welfare when they called that they actually applied so they wouldn't get kicked off. Most of them were perfectly capable of working, but socialism breeds laziness and destroys the human spirit. Why should they work when they get a free handout?
You mean they pay for other people's lifestyles, specifically the rich friends of politicians who recieved trillions in stimulus money and the lazy who feed off of the welfare system. If we stopped giving money to those two groups then everyone's tax burden would drop like a rock.
You've obviously never monitored employee web usage. FB sucks an extraordinary amount of employee time. In my RL experience, not many people can log on and only spent 10 or 15 minutes there like they would on any other site, myspace included. Something about FB makes people stupid and gets them to waste hours of company time.
Facebook is blocked in my company for that reason. Yahoo mail, myspace, ebay, avon, horoscopes, whatever, I constantly see employees visit those sites but they don't spend enough time there to warrant concern. FB is a totally different story.
Yes, you can view your front page but that's it. Once you go there though, FB hammers you with requests for all the junk on the page with it's regular http address.
I monitor employee surfing and they figured out the https thing. Fortunately, (or unfortunately) FB hammers you so bad that it always puts itself in the top 10 web sites visited so spotting people trying to bypass the block is easy.
We've always had an open internet policy and I'm just asked to monitor the top 10 websites everyone visits for abuse. Facebook is the first site we've ever had to block because it hammers you constantly. Just leaving the site open and not touching it looks the same in logs as someone who's busy posting and reading.
Something I've learned as an old IT guy is that employee comfort is very under-rated. How comfortable an employee is with their work space is critical to productivity. I use USB with virtual box all the time. If it doesn't work automatically just map it as a shared folder.
Hate to break it to you but the tea party formed way before any politician or media outlet even knew what it was. The original organizers even banned Republican politicians from speaking at the first meets.
