Actually, WAR isn't even a game for the hardcore pvpers. The hardcore are actually griefers in disguise, and the ability to grief in WAR is amazingly small. Smaller than in WoW.
I honestly don't know how to explain how well they actually laid out the game other than to say that I talked my girlfriend into playing the game, who has never pvp'd in her life, and wouldn't because of the hardcore morons, and now I can't tear her away from her computer.
And crap, you're right, you win. I remember the old usenet flamewars with him.
But this guy is a close runner up in my opinion, and every bit as whiny as this press release shows. I can only imagine how bad Smart would be nowadays with all the press every hack game designer gets if they open their mouths now.
And yet, he really should be taking full responsibility for this mess.
Read http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/1552/the_subversion_game_an_interview_.php for an eye opener into how this guy thinks. It was also published in Game Developer mag a few months before.
Especially pay attention to the things he starts saying about game development around page 3, and the fact that he mentions Deus Ex every other sentence or so in an article about his new game, and tries to railroad around actually talking about his new game.
Never have I seen a game designer with his head stuck so far up his own ass.
Seriously, are you a shill?
This game is just warcraft with more guns and more grind. How is this casual or different compared to it?
Instances = elite now from what someone else said in another post
Creatures = dead by special attack button mash
How is this different or innovating at all? The only change at all is that they dumbed it down even further from WoW and made the "kill x monster" quests even worse. The game world doesn't even make any sense. "You're in a galactic war to save your race soldier. Would you like to buy a gun and some ammo to help save us?"
Just to pop your bubble real fast, you seem to forget that some of the biggest and fastest selling titles are sports and racing games. Y'know, which aren't M rated. And which are heavily marketed.
From what I've read elsewhere, a few months back, Heroes is supposed to have completely sepereate story arcs per season, with different characters. Will it actually go that way, I dunno, but that's what they were claiming a while back.
See.
This is exactly the type of post I'm refering to.
The above is complete corporate spin. All about the numbers, not about the gameplay, or the facts, nor valid comparisons with other games.
Face facts. Eve as a game, while it might appeal to some people, suffers from extremely low player counts compared to the actual market leaders. I've known more people that have quit playing Eve stating that it's a boring economics simulator than actually play it.
But I'm not here to slander Eve or stand for or against any game. I'm just tired of seeing a crap ton of corporate spin on public boards.
I remember first seeing about this here, although I'm sure it's posted elsewhere:

It really seems like there's been an awful lot of pro-eve propaganda in every single forum I ever see it mentioned in, even though it has an abysmally low player population. Makes me wonder about the whole corporate shill on message boards thing I've been reading about the last couple of weeks.
Um, hi, Warcraft did it's stress test nearly exactly the same way. They released it to paid fileplanet subscribers only also. This is strictly for a stress test, not their normal beta. All they're after is warm bodies to flood and crash their servers.
And this is what happens when all you do is focus on the new flash and bang graphics, and your own IP, instead of innovating on gameplay and new concepts. You forget that there's a whole world of games beyond your own platform/PC, and that some of them, heaven forbid, do break a profit, just not in the millions, and with dev teams small enough where that's more than enough to keep them in the business, and not necessarily slaved to the major publishers. Go indie developers!
I didn't bother refuting the Xbox part. That part is public knowledge. Sony paid to keep it exclusive.
As far as my nintendo comments go, refer to the part where I said the word controversial. GTA is definately that. Name the last title you saw nintendo publish that had that particular word associated with it. And Nintendo very much does get a say in what gets published for their system. They still keep a far tighter reign over what comes out than any of the other console manufacturers. And go ahead, mention Conker's Bad Fur day. I'll also point out, despite good sales, Rare no longer develops for them.
As far as the random violence goes, you cited Resident Evil, which, last time I checked, has you killing zombies, not living random people. Yes, it's a horror game, but no, it's not about random violence. And the other even mildly violent games they've put out usually involve anthropomorphic cartoony animals.
Have you even stopped for a second to consider it may have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Rockstar? That maybe it was Nintendo refusing to port the title over? Or have we forgotten that Nintendo generally likes to keep family friendly games on their console, and not ones that are generally controversial and sponsor random violence?
And no, there's no basis for fact in anything I just said. I'm just reading in between the lines here.

Actually, they did, they sunk Flagship-Seattle, which were the guys working on Mythos. But they've bounced back and started a new company at least.
Isn't that insider trading? Shouldn't we be reporting him to the SEC? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Speak not the devil's name, lest he appear!

Found a link about Heroes: http://www.heroesrevealed.com/interview/new-heroes -for-season-2/

You read bad things about everything posted on /. if you look hard enough
Heh, that's hardly a fight. Wright delivers. Molyneaux chokes. Nuff said.

Green Hornet, not Green Lantern... completely different thing

First someone takes over a game server. Then we slashdot their forums. Ubi is probably having a wonderful day today.
