I wish/. just took all this other shit away and left your single post up. I've read the same fucking arguments at least 6 times each in the discussion, and nobody but you said this.
It took thousands of people all talking past each other that I had to go through to get to you and your truth, which you have observed, is quite accurate. Not a single dude here has been able to point to a real innovation in Longhorn, that will actually be IN the shipping product. Pitiful.
/., please update your 'X' to a Tiger 'X'. Thanks.
But dont you have to get the 64 bit UI thru the entire OS someday anyways? Whats the difference between having to code it now and disable it with a switch or something and having it done vs. having to still code it at the future date?
I'm not a programmer and I dont play one on TV, so be kind to me if I dont understand the issue - but if you COULD have coded it up and simply flipped the switch to it later, wouldnt that actually have saved developer time for another task later on?
People that are using Mac OSX just possibly, maybe, prefer it to Windows or Linux, and dont give a SHIT how free the software is. They use their computers to do things, and they will pay for whatever gets the things they want done faster, easier, and simpler.
I have never met a Mac user that would even consider Linux, not in 15 years. But there are tens of thousands of linux users who have adopted OS X. What operating system do you think all the science geeks who went out and bought powerbooks last year use?
It's not linux.
But ya know what? WHO GIVES A FUCK? The whole argument about who "wins" in the computing world sucks. Use whatever you want, it used to be a free country.
Ya know what I want to do my my phone? Call people I need to talk to from anywhere to anywhere, at a reasonable price.
I also want it to have nothing more than what I need to do that task as well. I guess I wont be buying any of these phones. Seriously, whats wrong with a phone being.....a phone?
Way back when, Apple came out with the IIfx, described as "wicked fast" by Jobs. They cost 10,000 dollars in 1993 dollars, but they sold plenty of them.
I am convinced thay have missed the boat until now. They need to make a PC crusher at the top of their line, something that is so much faster than any PC for creative work that no one would dare say any PC is faster.
They got a lot of attention and doubting when they introed "The World's Fastest Personal Computer" when they came out with the G5. What they need to do is actually make that come true beyond anyone's doubt, and then keep up with it. To hell with what it costs - if they sold those IIfx's for 10K back in 1993 they can do the same thing today but even better for far less money.
This time, make that boast true, and shove it straight down the naysayers throats.
Why do I need Linux when I have the slickest nix in the world from Apple? Not a troll, I'm serious. I dont understand why anyone would pick Linux over OS X besides the fact it's free.
I'm getting ready to download a PPC distro to put on a G3 Server I picked up on ebay for 20 bucks, so I'm not anti-linux, (though I have to admit it's mostly becuase OS 9 is such a loser)....I just dont know why one would make that choice, and I am open to hearing from linux folk as to why they would run Linux on Apple's modern hardware instead.
I love Apple. They innovate and do things that the PC industry really needs to be done, but they remind me of the RIAA going after these people who simply report on what they are told.
I think Apple would actually be better off having a few selected bitches, the secrecy is self defeating when applied across the board. There's a line that can be used by savvy marketeers between pimpin and paranoia.
Indeed. I have been using my Dual 1.8 since Thanksgiving Day 2003 and just had my first system crash last week when trying to print something and then do something else before it spooled.
Before that, my ontime was something like 7 months, the last time I has a power outage I would guess. Since the Deep Sleep actually WORKS on a G5 you dont ever think about turning it off or on.
Whats cool about this is the tug of wars over the camera direction. Now that every/.er is on the controls some of the cams are doing 180's up and down and sideways as legions of internet users attempt to point the cam where they want it to go.
The car shop cam above is moving around like a whirling dervish.:D It must look wierd from the parking lot where the cam is to see it twisting about.
I think you take your internet a bit too seriously. Your tone is usually reservedby normal folks for something like condemning mothers who drive their children into lakes strapped in their seat belts. Thats something to be distressed over.
/. is not in that league. Go outside, and quit worrying about things you cannot control. And dont tell poeple you dont know to fuck off. It's bad manners, you little fucker.:)
Ok, why is this a -1? He's stating his personal experience, and it's not a flame or a troll. It's not offtopic, becuase it's a direct response to a statement thats begs for one. OS X is damn near impossible to crash on a maintained system. My G5 has NEVER crashed, not ONCE, and thats being on 24 X 7 ( sleeping when not used ) since I got it Thanksgiving 2003. His statement about crashing Macs is so 1998, and I bet he's never used a modern one.
I dont have mod points now, but someone that does, remove the blight from this man's record. And find out who the turd was that modded him down and mod down all HIS shit. He needs it.
I own both a Dual 1.8 G5 and find the Mac to be a superior platform over Windows for everything I do in computing.....EXCEPT gaming. For that, I have my 3000+ homemade box.
As I get older, I dont game as much or as often. I expect there's a lot more like me in the same boat, they used to be hardcore gamers back in their 20's but I'm a lot more interested in producing and making videos and music these days.
the point should be made that Greens or Libertarians need to disclose where these funds come from. If the major donators come from the Democrats in one way or another, it's nothing more than whoring. I happen to think it's throwing bad money after good, but as long as the money comes from only Green and Libertarian donors, I dont have a problem with bad judgement, but I do have a problem with shadow donors. Party members on either side have a expectation that the funds are their money.
It's best to worry about where the line is to be drawn after you get to that line. The LP does not have the money or the manpower to be fretting over things that end the end mean nothing to the voters.
For now, everybody thats committed to restoration of some measure of liberty should be good to go. You can get more selective later, after you have had some measure of success, instead of the PISS POOR record of failure of the National LP to this point.
More normal politics and less philosophical words in the platform like "End Taxation" and " The cult of the omnipotent state" would help too.
I'm going to be supporting Judge Jim Gray if he runs for POTUS in 2008. He's a better candidate than Badnarik is - he's got tons of real world leadership experience, both on the bench and off.
I'm glad Badnarik won the LP nomination - if nothing else it shows that the dream of Everyman being able to run for the Presidency is still alive in some manner in 2004. But Judge Jim Gray would be considered a serious candidate running as a Republican or a Democrat.
There is slow change coming in the LP. I think some enlightened people in the party are struggling against the lunatics that want to privatize and abolish everything in sight. The LP platform is getting rewritten so it doesnt read like a anarchist's cookbook, and I think Badnarik is going to be the "last of the old guard" type libertarians to run.
Look for the LP to finally throw off it's chains put on it by the freakshows and anarchists and get it act together between now and 2008.
This is one of the huge failures of the LP, tho I'm not sure that there are enough libertarians to support the concept that States should be free to set their own agendas. Most of them would proble scream and holler that no government can be ( statist, socialist, etc.,insert favorite pure libertarian put down here) at any level.
The only thing that will change that is if enough small l libertarians get involved in the party to force those changes. In my view, Libertarians should respect the Constitutions of States just as much as they do the Feds, and campaign on that.
I'm so tired of the armchair libs demanding perfect agreement with "everything Ayn Rand said or OFF WITH YOUR HEAD" style of libertarian thought. The actual political party inside the libertarian movement needs a serious dose of freedom from these people.
Considering Badnarik is polling *higher* in some states than Nader and is one the ballot in MANY more states than Nader, I think Isotope's example is a STERLING example of total media bias in action. My mad props to you.
Notice also a search on BADNARIK also returns zero hits on CNN.
How come/. is full of R's and D's who are always complaining of media bias against each other. How come they cant see it here?
"Gay marriage is not federally regulated (except the union of Bush and Kerry)"
I think JibJab's latest effort, 'Good to be in D.C.', has Kerry & Edwards hugging and kissing and then winding up in bed together. I seriously thought when I saw them "Where's the other two?"
him > you, coward.

maybe if you quit passingthecrackpipe around, you could run your machines right ;)
Teh quicksilvers are SO 2001. K TNKS BYE
I dont think 99% of mac mini buyers need dual monitors. That's Power Mac territory.

Sorry. Forgot to include the gaming box in that sentence, later alluded to in the post. 10-4.

Mac beats the PC hands down for that. ( for me )

it was never broadcasted on CBS, period.
