Back to the zombie dogs: it's an interesting biological experiment, but if and when it's tried on humans I won't be surprised at all if they recall absolutely nothing of their time between death and resuscitation.
Seems reasonable. Someone earlier was talking about neurons metabolising being part of the reason this works without brain damage. Seems logical to me that if the brain is not working it ain't storing anything to memory... Kinda like hitting the pause button for a few hours...
XviD is an ISO MPEG-4 compliant video codec. It's no product, it's an open source project which is developed and maintained by lots of people from all over the world.
Seriously man, 2 clicks - not that hard. Add to that the page title is "XviD.org:: Home of the XviD codec" - that tends to tell you it's a codec doesn't it? If you don't know what a codec is, i suggest that this thread is not for you...
From www.dictionary.com: anymore (n-môr, -mr) adv.
Any longer; at the present: Do they make this model anymore? From now on: We promised not to quarrel anymore. Chiefly Midland U.S. Nowadays.
Regional Note: In standard American English the word anymore is often found in negative sentences: They don't live here anymore. But anymore is widely used in regional American English in positive sentences with the meaning nowadays: We use a gas stove anymore (Oklahoma informant in DARE). Its use, which appears to be spreading, is centered in the South Midland and Midwestern states, as well as in the Western states that received settlers from those areas. The earliest recorded examples are from Northern Ireland, where the positive use of anymore still occurs.

This is an excellent idea!
If designed correctly, the chains could act like a chainsaw blade and remove the front guards from the vehicle. Possibly even the drivers legs!
Alternatly, the chains could be attached to the road so that they spear into the tire, wrap around it a few times and then go taut - tearing the entire wheel from the car or at least stopping it in a big hurry.
Perhaps dispense with the chains entirely. The barbs from the road spikes could be incendiary or maybe explosive. Yet another way to remove the wheels! This could be accompanied by a launch system in the central spikes that are between the left and right wheels. They could be launched up through the bottom of the vehicle - hopefully either into the sump, jamming the crankshaft, into the gearbox, jamming the drivetrain, or perhaps through the seat, nailing the criminal in place for an easy arrest. Add to that the incendiary effect and you've got a fairly powerful deterrent on your hands!
Come to think of it, we already have anti-tank mines that accomplish a similar thing...
Scary what comes out of my brain sometimes - especially when I need sleep.

It is a joke. I don't care if these people are serious, those prefixes are not acutaully used by anyone with a brain.
The idea is to stop thick people from arguing about whether 1kb is 1000 bytes or 1024 bytes. Whenever the argument comes up someone always brings up "kibi-bytes" and "monkey-bytes" and "googoo-bytes" or whatever the hell this crap is.
It's not that hard people. Marketoids use SI units because you can quote higher numbers. Programmers use powers of 2 because it makes the maths work.
People should leave things alone that they are too ignorant to understand and let the rest of us get on with it.
That only applies if you are running them open loop with no feedback. Which is a really dumb idea which is why it is not done.
Don't buy into that audiophile bullshit, most of them don't know their arse from their elbows about what actually goes on inside their amps. The fact remains that valve amps sound the way they do because of harmonic distortion. Transistor ampssound the way they do because of harmonic distortion. It's the different magnitudes of the different harmonics that are generated that create the difference.
I personally believe that the circuit topologies used are to blame for at least some of the differences. The way you design for valves is completely different to the way you design for transistors. They are completely different devices. Valves are closer in operation to MOSFETS - they are both high input impedance transconductance devices, although they have different transfer characteristics.
Edison didn't bother persuing it because he had no use for AC
From a bit of research, it looks more like edison didn't appreciate the usefulness of the effect originally known as the "Edison effect", now known as "Thermionic Emission". He of course patented it anyway because he was a businessman and he patented everything just in case...
(For you British types: calling something a valve doesn't make it a valve. A vacuum tube is no more a valve than an oyster.)
Really. "Thermionic Valve" is a much more descriptive term than "Vacuum Tube". It describes exactly what it does and by what means, not just what it looks like.
Or possibly the unicorns are following you around so they're always behind you;)
Sorry - I just get this funny picture of a guy looking over the entire world for some unicorns - and there's this huge heard of them tiptoeing around behind him and hiding behind the curtains each time he looks around...
Sorry... I think I'm over it now... Yes doctor I'll take my medication now...
Do you really do this? I doubt it somehow - my mental picture of the average Gentoo user is not someone who tirelessly tweaks compiler settings manually to get the best possible performance. It's someone who runs the generic install/compile scripts and then brags about how they optimised their own system tirelesly on/.
KDE kinda has this feature - if you enable "show terminal emulator" in the "window" menu of Konqueror, it gives you a terminal on the bottom of the current window which follows you around and can be used at any time

I've been saying that for years!
Nice to see that somebody else feels the same way...
Hmmm... I prefer "Kidder"..
Viewsonic do a similar thing:
The airsync, although it uses remote desktop not VNC.
Also, at around $1300 USD, it ain't cheap!
How about this:
I don't want one because they aren't as good as you think they are, fanboy.
Go on, mod me into oblivion because I don't want a mac.
And your point is?
TH words "Personally" and "I think" in the OP answer your question before you even asked it...
Oh fuck off
