Counting germs and making it sound "scary" or "disgusting" has been a scam of the cleaning product industry since whenever people were able to mass produce chemical cleaning products. Probably around the 1950's or so. There's life all over and it is a damn good thing. I _would_ be scared if I found out I was working in an evironment where bacteria couldn't survive. I would get the hell out of that place pronto. All you have to do to keep from getting sick at the office is what people have been doing since long before "Formula 409" - wash your hands from time to time.

Well, you can't send an html email to a phone that tricks the user to click a link that installs a trojan that records all your phone calls and uploads them to an IRC chat room at midnight, all without leaving your parents basement. So even though there is no security on current phones, it takes a bit more effort to listen in on their calls. The minimal physical ability required to climb the phone poll rules out most chee-toe eating script kiddies from tapping your phone line.

Microsoft was politically agnostic and never contributed to political campaigns until the US government brought the anti-trust suit against them. They've been one of the number one contributors ever since. Bush pretty much put the anti-trust trial on ice as soon as he walked into office. Microsoft, a relatively young company, learned what most other big companies already know - political contributions are a necessary cost of doing business in the US. They could have saved themselves the cost of ever having an anti-trust trial brought against them at all if they would have learned that lesson earlier.

They won't make that mistake again. Here are the top contributors to Bush's 2004 campaign. Microsoft is in the top 20.

Microsft isn't listed as a top contributor to Kerry's campaign, but they are listed as a top contributor to Dean's campaign, so I guess they bet on the wrong horse there.

The first two hits in the article point out that java was architected with security in mind. This is simply true, and hardly a shameless plug.

The next hit is in the question "How well do you think modern programming languages, particularly the Java language, have been able to help developers hide complexity?"

The answer starts with the word "Unfortunately" and goes on to explain that not even OO languages reduce complexity enough when an app gets big enough. The word "Java" isn't used once in the answer. That certainly isn't a plug.

The final hit is in the question "Do you have any concrete advice for Java developers? And are you optimistic about the direction software is headed?"

Note some good general purpose advice is given in the answer, and the term "Java" isn't used once in the answer.

Learning the ins and outs of six different package managers and writing scripts so your app can be installed on any of them is not fun. It is tedious and boring, so it doesn't get done.
