  1. Re:Well on Linux Kernel Adopts 'Code of Conflict' · · Score: 2

    Brilliant analysis.

Facebook started this crap of only allowing up votes. Parts of Reddit are now following the "Herp. Derp. Upvote only" mentality not thinking about what this really means.

Down-votes are important so that when something has incorrectly been up voted, the community can self police and auto-correct itself.

    As another /. poster said:

"How did we end up in the situation where the sham of Political Correctness became more important then Technical Correctness??

One of the reasons /. has been around so long is that it provides a _context_ for WHY something was up/down voted.

At the risk of being down-voted, Scott Meyers, a C++ guru, has an absolutely beautiful talk on _why_ C++ has become a complete clusterfuck of complexity, and bad ad hoc design at a D conference of all things!

Mike Acton is a respected programmer in the video game industry, and he's right. In fact, if you were paying attention I listed his famous "Typical C++ Bullshit" as reference in my Ogre 2.0 proposal.

OgreNode.cpp was written 13 years ago when OO programming was all the rave (still is?) everyone had a single core, caches didn't matter and most efficient way to cull the world was to use an Octree or a BSP. The world believed that "if( dirty )" was a magical, no-cost expression that is immediately a performance improvement wherever used to avoid the execution of more than 3 instructions.

13 years later, Moore's law kicked us in the butt and everyone is multicore. You probably know that story already.

Mike Acton reviewed the 1.9 version. Perhaps it would've been more interesting to see a review of the 2.0 file which has been refactored to better fit Data Oriented Design principles (and I'm sure there are things I wrote to criticize). Many of the things he criticizes of 1.9 have been fixed. Nevertheless there are things we can learn. Note that if he weren't right, then it would be hard to explain why there was a 5x performance increase between 1.9 and 2.0.

    2. Give me an option to show me the notes in _actual_ music notation so I can **learn to read music**. I _want_ to see the notes in Treble Cleff and/or Bass Clef.

Sony is perfectly capable of fucking up the company all by themselves. Let's see, Mobile had a loss of -1578, more then 3.5 times what the Financial Services makes.

From 2006 until 2009 the PlayStation division lost 4.6 Billion

In 2012 they lost 2.8 Billion

In 2014 they lost 78 million

/sarcasm, Oh I'm sorry, I forgot Sony already has an economic genius right there! How else could they continue to constantly lose money on the PlayStation! *snicker*

Maybe they should take lessons from Nintendo on how to be profitable.
