This might partly have something to do with the diabetes and how alcohol affects you. I had a diabetic roommate once who drank like a fish, and when he did, the alcohol seemed to push him into the "falling down, blacked out, stupid" phase much quicker than anyone I know. He once got so drunk he broke into a bunch of cars in our apartment parking lot looking for something he lost. No memory of that the next day. Another time he decided it'd be a good idea to not take his insulin and then drink. Paramedics were called that night as he was unresponsive.

    See the relevant WebMD article.

    * While moderate amounts of alcohol can cause blood sugar to rise, excess alcohol can actually decrease your blood sugar level -- sometimes causing it to drop into dangerous levels.
    * Alcohol can interfere with the positive effects of oral diabetes medicines or insulin.

This reminds me of Pablo Escobar who actually got elected to Columbia's Congress so as to avoid extradition to the USA for the various crimes he committed. He was eventually kicked out because the rest of the Congress saw right through this (and strangely enough Escobar ended up getting his way anyway by just paying off enough of those same members of Congress to amend the Columbian constitution with a no extradition bill). Now this post isn't equating copyright infringement with the various crimes that Escobar committed, but it will be interesting to see how the Swedish Parliament reacts internally to this matter.

It's an essential part of baking, cheese making, and a variety other parts of the culinary world AS A CHEMICAL. I do know that there are many states that have taxes that vary by county.

It's worse than that. In Texas, the sales tax varies by city. There are a few towns/villages in the D/FW area that are literally a few blocks in size.

At the risk of sounding absurd, in all seriousness, it can get worse than that. I live in a state with sales tax. I live in a county that has a sales tax. I live in an unincorporated part of the county outside of a city that has a sales tax, but my address indicates (for mail delivery reasons) that I do live in that city. My zip code does not belong to that city, but does include at least two other cities that have their own sales tax rates. There's times when I can barely figure out what my sales tax rate is, how is Amazon supposed to?

Because IMHO, Linux "usability" vs. Windows is a chicken and egg problem that Google may be able to solve. Linux has grown in leaps and bounds in terms of usability in the last decade. Some stuff is more difficult to do in Linux than in Windows, but many things are easier. The reason though why Linux doesn't gain more marketshare is because people can not bring the apps they are used to over when they switch. This is the reason why I still use Windows. Why don't companies port their apps to Linux? Not enough marketshare. So now we have a feedback loop where no one wins except Microsoft. However, Google is in a strong position to convince companies to bring their software over and convince customers to switch to Linux using their market influence to act as collateral on the risk.

Absolutely disagree with this one. I don't know about the submitter, but lunch I bring myself is almost always more nutritious (and as a bonus less expensive) than anything I'd get while at work. The calories you spend walking to somewhere to eat are usually wiped out by the time you get done eating whatever food from whatever restaurant you get it from.

  25. Re:In a bind on Staying In Shape vs. a Busy IT Job Schedule? · · Score: 1

I concur. Looking at it from even a gas standpoint starts to make sense. Let's be generous and assume those are all highway miles at 60 mi/hr and his car gets a decent 30 mpg
    60 miles/hour * 60 hours = 3600 miles/month.
    3600 miles/month / 30 mpg = 1200 gallons/month.
1200 gallons/month * $2.50 per gallon (generous around these parts) = $300 gas per month.

And that's not even counting wear and tear on the car which even at a measly $.10 per mile would mean an extra $360.

So an apartment should be findable for the $660/month you'd save + the joy you'd get of having an extra 60 hours/month free time.
