They are real, but they have next to nothing to do with Iraq. Bush had a pre-existing vendetta against Iraq and when he saw the opportunity to justify an attack, he took it. If we were looking to go after terrorism we wouldn't be letting the Taliban retake Afghanistan and we wouldn't be so buddy buddy with Saudi Arabia. If were looking for WMDs we would have gone to North Korea. The simple fact is that, instead, we went after a guy who tried to kill our President's father on idiotic false pretenses and fucked it up big time. The reason laws are now being passed to prevent leaks is to prevent the American people from ever knowing the whole truth about our murderer-in-chief.

Not that I disagree with the sentiment of the quote, our founding fathers were nothing short of heroes, and the Declaration and the Constitution are both incredible documents, but they were two separate documents.

Then, stop being an ignorant fuckwit and realize that the majority of the Iranian populace has no problem with Americans, they're just frustrated by the American military presence the region. Ahmadinejad didn't come to power by promising nuclear war; he came to power by promising to keep our military out, a goal most Iranians, understandably, share. However, since they are not the animals you seem to think they are, they are not likely to take it out on any Western looking traveler in their land. You know what, fuck you, if you really believed what you're saying you'd be in Iraq right now, but you're too busy being an asshole.

Teaching without computers has its merits and its limitations. I think the happy medium, for intro courses at least, is to ask to see pseudocode. It teaches the students good programming principles while not chaining them to any one language or program. Of course, also require an executable program, but only after decent pseudocode has been submitted. This can extend to mid-level courses and understanding various data structures. This is where the variety of tools should be introduced. Introduce an IDE, or two. Begin allowing projects to be submitted in the student's chosen language. By the time students have reached the advanced level, they should be able to choose the best tools for the job. By this time, most of the non-majors will have ceased their study of CS, and most of the majors who never belonged there in the first place will have quit. Grade the remainder on their results, inquire about their methods. If you feel that their methods are holding them back, provide guidance.

You misunderstand what one person's interpretation of one set of data mean. You see, science is, in fact, based on voting. More precisely, since you seem so interested in using that word as weapon, it is based on peer review. Until a paper has been peer reviewed, it is completely irrelevant to those outside the field. You say Jaworowski "points out the articles mentioned in NATURE," what you do not say is that Jaworowski has submitted his work for publication, had it undergo the process of peer review, and get published. This does not necessarily mean he is wrong, but it does mean that he should by no means be thought of as right. I haven't read his paper, it seems like you have and take his results and methodology to be sound. That's fine, but since I'm not a climatologist and I know very little about global warming, I'm going to wait until some of the experts in the field weigh in on the matter. If this paper refutes our theories on global warming like you say it does, then it will certainly merit discussion.

On the other hand, its entirely possible that every legitimate journal out there has peer reviewed his paper, but Jaworowski doesn't want to tell you about it. If he has, as the grandparent poster pointed out, been cited by Lyndon LaRouche then this is most likely the case. Anyway, to get back to my point, 1 paper that makes erroneous claims based on bad data, methodology, or interpretation does not refute 10,000 papers that say otherwise at all. I'm not necessarily saying Jaworowski's paper is incorrect, but it does smell that way. You can try to back it up all you want, but the fact is that I don't know enough about the subject to pick fact from well written fiction, like approximately 99.9%* of the people reading this. Yippee! Sulphur bubbles! That sounds sciencey, this guy must be smart! Sorry, ain't buying it, get it in The International Journal of Climatology and I'll believe it. Until then, keep trying to impress people who think they can tell their ass from a hole in the ozone layer, it helps them think they're intellectual.

The fact that you acted like a sanctimonious prick in your response validates that part of his post, although that might not have been the best way to get his point across, especially given the prickish nature of his first post. The fact is that many parents don't know anything about anything, much less parenting. Note, I didn't say this includes you and I didn't say it includes most parents. That being said, like the grandparent poster, I don't have kids, so I have no experience raising them. What I do have is parents and a sister who is raising my nephew. If I am giving advice on raising children, rest assured I have gotten it from them. That being said, my parents taught me and both of my sisters that being obnoxious was a real fast way to not only not get what we wanted, but to get what we had taken away. That might sound strict, and it was, for a little while. Then we learned that calmly asking for the things we really wanted and not every flashy piece of crap in the store would get us what we wanted. Parents happy, kids happy. I know, I haven't raised children, so what I just said isn't true and obviously makes no sense. Here's some friendly advice that has nothing to do with raising children: Consider the advice being given as well as the person giving it. Just because someone has kids doesn't mean they know anything about raising them, ask your local 15 year old mother.
