The question isn't whether it's crackable. You're never going to be able to make a 100% secure passport or any other type of identification for that matter. If you get a smart enough group of people together with the proper resources they will be able to crack it. The question is whether or not the technology in question is a cost effective improvement over it's predecessor.
I think the consolidation of local radio stations is partially to blame for the decrease in CD sales that the record companies have been complaining about. For most people radio is the primary means of finding new music and when most of the stations in your market play the same top 40 crap day in and day out, you're exposed to less music and you'll probably by less music by extension. It's clearly not the only problem plauging the music industry but I'm certain it plays a large role.
I never listen to the radio anymore because I get tired of hearing the same stuff over and over and as a result I by less music because I'm exposed to less music.
It's 27 KB large (smaller than most web images, he points out) and it's a pretty powerful piece of software. Still runs on my modern dual core system, talk about longevity.
That, ladies and gentleman, is part of the reason why Windows continues to dominate but also the reason why it's increasing lagging behind other operating systems in security, new features, etc. Backward compatibility is a good thing to a certain extent but I think it's become to large a weight around Microsoft's neck. Five years for Vista? Five years and all of the best features were long ago taken out. You've got to be kidding me.
You're cell phone battery is low and you just locked your keys in the car. You fire up your cell phone to call one of your friends to come pick you up. Before you make the call a targeted add displays and as a result you're phone dies before you can complete the call. No thanks, I'll pass.
I'm sick of commercials and targeted ads as it is. I'd rather pay what I'm paying now and own the phone. It's bad enough that I've got to watch ads before I sit to watch a movie and while I'm watching television (that was originally supposed to be entirely free but now costs me more than $100 a month to get all of the channels that I want), I'll pass when I'm using a phone. It reminds me of those gas stations a while back that put a speaker in the pump and played ads while I filled my car up with gas. What a pain in the ass. People around where I lived stopped going to that station and they got rid of the ads real quick.
Don't take a page from the George W. Bush's play book and declare victory before the war even really begins. The OS war is just getting started and Linux still has a long way to go before it can be declared the outright winner.
Ultimately, we never could have achieved this milestone without you, the enthusiast community, who have played a key role in making this the highest-quality, most secure, most reliable and most usable version of Windows the world has ever seen.
Really? If each new release of Windows is marketed as the highest-quality, most secure, most reliable and most usable version of Windows then why has each new release of Windows had more security patches released than the previous version?
Just look at the amount of holes that have been plugged since XP SP2 was released. The heck with waiting for Vista SP1, I'm telling my clients to steer clear of Vista all together until Microsoft stops releasing patches to new vulnerabilities found in XP.
I've been a Microsoft slappy since I first got into computers when I was a kid back in the Windows 3.11 days and Vista will represent the first Microsoft OS that I will not ever, under any circumstances, run on any PC or laptop that I purchase or recommend to anyone else.
I'm sure I'll have to deal with Vista at work at some point, but for me it's Mac's (with Boot Camp and Windows XP for games) on systems I buy or recommend to others from now on. Vista is a joke. All of the coolest features have long since been stripped out and we're left with an insecure, DRM'd to the bone, joke of an OS with a UI ripped off from Apple. I honestly don't see one compelling reason to upgrade. More DRM, more WGA like "protection" that can totally lock down your system and make it useless at a moments notice. Microsoft seriously jumped the shark with this one.
No more "Company X" starts music or video service "stories" please. These anouncements are a dime a dozen and unless there is actually something unique about the store the story is pointless. Wake me up when they actually put a dent into Apple's marketshare. Then you'd have a story.
If he really believed what he said he would be producing new content instead of further milking the Star Wars cow year after year with new "never before seen" editions of the films and new games and merchandise. Successful tent pole pictures and franchises are money magnets and will continue to be for years to come because when they hit, they hit big.
Lucas may never allow another new Star Wars movie to be made (and I'm skeptical about that in the first place) but if that proves to be the case guess what happens as soon as he kicks the bucket? We'll be getting 7, 8 and 9 with an entire CGI cast.
No shit Sherlock! That's why you never go with the minimum amount and instead look to the recommend amount of memory and upgrade to at least that. Microsoft doesn't lie about anything. The minimum amount of memory is exactly that, the minimum amount that you must have in order to run the OS. It's not what they recommend for a good user experience. Hence the terms "minimum" and "recommended". You're the worst kind of FUD spreading douche bag.
It's a second rate copy of the iPod and its online store is a second rate copy of the iTMS. It's got a couple of features over and above what the iPod / iTMS offer but it's not nearly as easy to use as the iPod / iTMS combination. It's like the typical Microsoft v1.0 product, a day late and a dollar short.
I just don't see how Microsoft can turn this one into a winner unless Apple drops the ball Sony style. They haven't been successful yet in leveraging their desktop dominance to drive customers away from the iTMS. You know they'll try with Vista but I don't think that will have much of an effect on consumer's portable music player of choice or their online music store of choice. People have already made their bed when it comes to purchasing DRM'd music online. People who have bought from Apple will stick with Apple unless they really drop the ball because of Apple's DRM. People that have gone with Microsoft DRM will stick with devices that can handle Microsoft DRM because they have to. So when you really think about it, the Zune is a bigger threat to companies that have patterned with Microsoft by supporting Microsoft's DRM than it is to Apple.
I can't help but think of all of those poor buggy whip manufacturers who had their jobs eliminated when the automobile was first introduced. We should ban it.. oh wait...
The iTunes Store also features the world's largest catalog of online music with over 3.5 million songs and has sold a stunning 1.5 billion songs, making it the world's most popular digital music store.
Just because the Slashdot crowd doesn't like something doesn't mean that average consumers have the same view. Get over yourself and UNDERTAND THIS, the RIAA and MPAA don't give a flying fuck about what you think. You are not their target customer.
On a bright note, Congress does not have jurisdiction over the World Court at The Hague. This may be where justice is finally served.
Yup, and what a bang up job the World Court at The Hague did with Milosevic and his cohorts. I have more faith in the RIAA. The World Court makes the Saddam Hussein special tribunal in Iraq look organized and well run by comparison.

Must we ask stupid rhetorical questions to get a mention on Slashdot?
It's about as ridiculous as hating someone for the OS they choose to run ...
Enjoy your impeachment you cock master!
Nigger, please. At ease!
If it feels this right, it can't be wong! Chink about it!

Most people with PPC Macs were screwed the day Apple announced they'd be transitioning to Intel.
I'll save them the trouble. It's all bullshit.
This is old news. We're talking cover story on news magazines two weeks ago old.

You shouldn't have to run third party software to have a secure operating system. As others have pointed these companies are living on borrowed time.

You mean the same Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who warns about the perils of global warming between trips on his private jet?
Is that so? From a recent press release:
