Um, right. I'd suggest researching the difference between Apartheid, where the whites made no effort to bring blacks into society, no effort to help them, little to no effort to improve their living conditions and zero effort toward living in peace together, and Israel, where there were constant offerings of sharing land-recovery techniques, allowing arabs living in Israel the right to vote, making constant sacrifices of land in the hopes of achieving peace, etc. etc. Just because you're able to read a headline about Jimmy Carter doesn't mean you have any idea what you're talking about. In fact, your 4th bullet proves you don't.

No, what you are is a criminal and one that puts even more evidence in the hands of the MPAA and RIAA to to and get Congress to criminalize any use for torrents, include legal, educational ones.
1) A pledge to make their coffee stop tasting burnt (yes, I know, that's how they prepare it. And it taste like crap.)
2) Make it possible to order one of their "complicated" coffees without sounding... gay. I'd like a double-latte, half caf, with a twist and double foam just sounds wrong...
Not sure about the validity of the numbers you're citing, but frankly, that seems to be a growing trend among the "alt-cable" channels like SCI-FI, FX, etc. FX is the worst, IMO. I got tired of waiting forever between seasons of NipTuck, The Shield, etc. (Not to mention canceling "Over There" *grin*). My wife and I just stopped caring about the characters with such huge gaps between seasons. I've never really watched The Sopranos, but I understand the same thing was something its fans complained about. Add that to decreased show times and increased commercial interruptions and it just points more and more toward viewers being pushed to find alternatives to what - and how - they watch TV.
My wife and I tried switching our mx records to using gmail for your site. For some reason, I had no problems sending/receiving email (at least, as far as I could tell) but my wife couldn't receive anything and any msg she tried to send went into the ether. When I checked the support FAQ, it was listed as a "known issue." Needless to say, we changed the records back within a few days. I don't know if anything has been done to make the issue go away in a rock-solid manner, but it doesn't sound like it.
he is at the head of an enormous corporation, with assets to protect and the need to maintain revenues
Those assests obviously include the partnerships with the media that provides the content MS so obviously needs (as does, of course Apple and, growingly, cellphone provides.) So short of MS, Apple and all the others collectively saying, "You know what RIAA, MPAA, etc. Bite me. Our consumers drive our success, and the artists successes drive your warchests and we're not going to play anymore," I just don't see there being an end to increasingly complex, PITA DRM."
I think it's an interesting realization for Gates, doubly so as the article points out because of the Draconian measures in place for Vista. I also wonder how long it will be until the RIAA comes out with some sort of press release countering the argument. Full-page WSJ ad, maybe? But the end result is, will MS make any changes to their official policies/practices, and does Bill's opinion really matter when he's stepping out of his policy-setting positions at MS in a few years...
You know, it's funny that you say that. I'm in a mixed-religion marriage (I'm Jewish and my wife isn't.) In fact, she and most of her family are born-again Christians. Most of them are, as you describe, followers of the Golden Rule, etc. It's the ones who try and caution me about "The Gay Agenda" (Agenda? I didn't even realize there was a meeting) and various other conspiratorial, hate-filled concepts that amaze me.
Likewise, we use the very same tools and account interface.
So what's good for the goose is good for the gander? How does this mean that the system might still not work?
Just got off the phone with Tivo and Mr2001 is right: Their Level 3 support said that occasionally the flag does get set, but it's a cable company issue, rather than Tivo (or, more accurately, he implied it was a cable company issue.) He said they've gotten reports of it happening with "Grey's Anatomy." He said when they get multiple complaints or calls, they reach out to the provider to fix the problem, but in this case, it was the first he had heard of it, so they made a note, but wouldn't escalate it to Comcast. He also asked if I had cable or satellite, which I thought was interesting. Regardless, good to know I don't have to stay up late again *rin*
According to Wikipedia, Doctor Manhattan.
I sooooo want extra dork points for this post *grin*

Sorry, too lazy to see if someone else points this out so I fully expect a Redundant tag but ...:
Forcing a company to alter their product with the force of law is never ethical
What about tabacco companies?

If you have to ask, you didn't pay attention to the last presidential election
Thanks. Humor was certainly what I was going for.
Mods are what I got *grin*
If people don't want to obey a law they won't obey it, and when enough people don't obey the law then the law means squat
Tell that to the more than 1 million people who have been arrested, fined, punished because of pot laws (which you reference.)
No free wireless. Less content than TV. Lame.
;)
Well, there goes my positive karma rating

"Executives say they want to foster confidence in users to build a long-term business"
Shouldn't they start with building a secure operating system, rather than targeted ads?
Excellent points. One part really stands out:

Damn. I wish I had a mod point for either "interesting" or "insightful." Nice post.
So much so that I wanted to post a reply, but couldn't figure out how. Luckily there's this company in India I was able to call ....
