I'd give a price increase because a decent DVD burner runs about 200$ for the +/- . Add 100$ for extra logic for OS. Add a cheap-o ide drive that should be about 100$.. and you get 720$.

As I reccomend not to go to 2.6test branch now, wait a few kernel versions: perhaps 2.6.3 and then have a test box to determine what you think is correct.

I do know that both (job and spooler) have been 'improved', but how that equates to the real world is only solvable by testing. All I know is testing a new beta kernel gives me the willies. you know.. the same feeling when you put a "patched" windows server on the external network

  4. Re:Serious question... on Linux 2.6 Kernel Stability Freeze · · Score: 1

Since what you describe is production, I'd advise to keep it at 2.4 .

If you wanted to, you could mirror data out so that there's a 2.6 mail server in testing.

Even that as a mail server, there's little reason to go towards 2.6 . The user-space and driver config (addition of /sys and other noticible improvemets) are probably of little value for a mail server. A client computer would benefit trmendously fro the additions made in 2.6

There is 1 feature that you could use: NSA security patch. It's in the "Alternate Security Model" part of the kernel. With those patches, it could make 'root' harmless. Since they've been back-ported into 2.4, it isnt much as a reason to stay with 2.6 .

We play a monthly campaign with a few (7) friends. Even my GF has got worked up into it more than I have sometimes. And even though it's RP, you're with friends. That's the real reason it's fun.

That's why single player Diablo 2, NWN, and any other RPG is really not fun.

And as a last not, taking RP too far is quite scary. Hell, taking anything too far is scary to deal with. Though, RP is a great way to get with friends for a fun game.

If I remember correctly, the last person talked to for saying "dangerous things about our governing peoples" was on Kuro5hin.org.

The situation was a few days after 9/11/2001 when tensios were extremly heated, and they're talking about possible chemical "kills" done to higher-ups in government. I think he was covering aerosol-type devices as the vector. He never specified a "target". He just talked about it as a remote possibility

A few days later, the Secret Service (note, not FBI/CIA) wated to have a talk with him. When they came to his house, they were very friendly and couretious. They believed he wasnt dangerous, but they wanted to know why he mentioned those topics (they happened to be the things the govt was scared of).

After explaining to them, they left quietly, with no incident. My belief is that they didnt want to leave any stones unturned.

Well, many devices do not need the 480Mb/s speed as said in the article however, the devices are backwards compatible.

So why is everyone whining? Just have the anufacturers put max speed transfer on the boxes as spec sheet. Just dont buy anything from those manufacturers who dont.

And as a sideline about the jab about printers not meing "full-speed", who cares? Paralell printers, in epp/ecp mode, could only transfer max 11Mbps. And since consumer printers dont print very fast, what's the big deal? And it it was made to be fast, it'd have a network jack for 100Mbps connectivity.
