The newspaper said that a Microsoft-based replacement for an older Unix system needed to be reset every thirty days 'to prevent data overload', as a result of problems found when the system was first rolled out. However, a technician failed to perform the reset at the right time and an internal clock within the system subsequently shut it down. A back-up system also failed

Guess there was a backup, I feel for that guy.

Six-figure incentives are the only way to persuade people to disclose the identity of co-workers, friends and others they know are responsible for flooding online mailboxes with unsolicited pitches for prescription drugs, weight loss plans and other products, according to an agency report Thursday.

I dont think spammers run around telling coworkers and relatives they send spam. These people keep to themselves.

How does that quote go? The only way for 3 people to keep a secret is if 2 of them are dead.

It works for crime because most criminals like to brag, no incentive to brag here.

They dont give browser specifics, I wonder what they actually consider 'a major browser'.

One of the main issues with Linux Live CD's is the fact that it is rare for a live cd to properly initialize ALL the hardware on the computer. (i.e. sound card and wireless 802.11) Until something happens to allow universal driver support, live cd's will leave a bad taste in people's mouths who use obscure / cheap hardware (most windows users)

I ran Knoppix 3.3 and the newest 3.4 on Dells cheapest laptop. Inspiron 1100, Everything detected perfectly and runs great. Even the Netgear wireless NIC. Knoppix is good at even the cheapest hardware. As long as its common, thats what they shoot for. Ease of use.

Heres a good site for Linux on the Inspiron 1100.

  17. Fedora Core 2 on Mozilla 1.7 Released · · Score: 5, Informative
    From the Article:

Users of Fedora Core 2 may experience unusually long delays in resolving hostnames. This results from the fact that IPv6 is enabled by default in Fedora Core 2. If you do not need IPv6 support (which is most likely the case), then it is advised that you disable it in the kernel. To do this run the following command as root: echo "alias net-pf-10 off" >> /etc/modprobe.conf You will need to reboot to have this take effect (or simply unload the ipv6 kernel module).

An FYI if anyone is having trouble on Fedora.
