According to this,
The IBM Blue Lightning is a direct derivative of the Intel 486SX, although I remember something about it's being based on the 386 microcode because Intel hadn't licensed the 486 code to IBM. Perhaps IBM added the 486 compatibility code?

Question:
What is an IBM 486BL2 or 486BL3 (Blue Lightning) processor?
Answer:
It is an IBM-developed derivative of the Intel 486SX chip that comes in two "flavors": the clock-doubling 486BL2 and clock-tripling 486BL3.
Does anyone else remember those damned plastic standoffs that many older AT cases used to hold the motherboard? Arrgh! Nighmares of trying not to damage the bloody motherboard while trying to extract the STANDOFF FROM HELL!
Damn top cover never closed! We had tons of them at work and the only time I ever got one to close right was by using a claw hammer to tap the cover into position on one that we were throwing out...
I don't know about you, but I've found Hard drives to be notoriously unreliable with the average drive lasting only 1 to 3 years for me. I've recently eliminated them from all of my pcs except for one while I rely on CD-Rs, Flash memory, and, god-forbid, actual paper for all of my data storage needs.
The main characters communicate with each other by a method like the one you described. They are persecuted as mutants because of it. Great book, John Wyndham rules!
You remind me of me! I used to be the same way with technology as well, but now I've gotten rid of my modern P4 system which had been running dual boot Win2k and Mandrake Linux and have replaced it with an old P166 laptop with no hard drive that I had kicking around. Knoppix (hell, even damn small linux) is all I need to do all I need to do with a computer. I don't have a cell phone anymore (don't really need one) Got rid of my PS2 (I was spending more time playing GBA games) And I'm currently trying to get rid of my new (2002) car so that I can get a $500 one that just gets me where I'm going instead of leaching all my money away just so it can look cool in the driveway. Backshifting your consumerism is a good thing!
Whoops, that should be "of RAM". Perhaps I could remaster Damnsmalllinux, that is, if it's possible to make it that small... I don't need X, that will probably save a lot of space...
I was wondering if it is possible to make a liveCD that could boot and run from RAM on my old NEC laptop. It only has 48MB or RAM, but all I need is vi, w3m, ftp client, usb key support, and a telnet client. Is this possible? Any suggestions? Barring this, I could use a large usb drive if I had a way of booting to it on the old NEC. Thanks for your help!
I don't see why the courts spend all this time on these minor MS issues while ignoring the very abuses that permit microsoft to maintain it's illegal monopoly. The WIN32 API's Intellectual Property protections prevent competitors from making compatible products thereby reducing the choice that software producers have in platforms to support. If MS were ordered by the courts to release the WIN32 API to the ISO or some other similar organization for administration as a world standard (similar to POSIX...) it would foster proper competition between operating systems as they would all be able to support the defacto standard API that most commercial apps are written for. Just my $0.02
I'm doing this now,and... LOVING it! I use a safe deposit box to store my gold/excess cash. I don't mind paying for the security, I just object to paying the bank for using my money to make themselves richer.

The funny thing is, IIRC, it actually survived the slashdotting and continued to serve it's, albeit static, pages just fine!
Yes, and they succeeded for many years, but the story of the book begins when they first fail to keep the secret.
No organization, now I can't find a damn thing!!! But that's another problem for another day :)

I thought that the XBOX controller ports were USB, just with a proprietary connector on the end of the bus instead of the standard one.
