  1. Slavery ? on Can You Be Sued for Quitting? · · Score: 1

  2. Me tooo on Motion Sickness Remedies for Games? · · Score: 1

I have been playing FPS games for about 10 years (castle wolfenstein) when I was about 30 years old. When I first started playing I had no problems. I played quite a bit. As I got older I played less and started feeling sick when I did play. Sometimes I could not play for more then 15 minutes. Here is what I discovered:
    1. The more you play the more desensitized you get. But, you have to deal with feeling sick to get used to it.
    2. The running around looking for stuff or being lost is much worse. If there is a monster or puzzle around every corner then I didn't get sick. If I got lost or I am running around for a few minutes I get sick real quick.
    3. As soon as you start feeling sick quit. Unless you are trying to do #1 above the longer you play the longer it takes to get rid of.
    4. Take up a mmorpg. I never got sick in EQ, DAOC or WoW. I replaced my FPS addiction with my mmorpg addiction.
I hope it works for you.

In architechture schools you learn to build houses with cardboard first to understand the concepts, then you get to work with concrete.
Are you all so insecure about your jobs that you wouldn't encourage others to learn to write programs ? I don't see any other ideas from this audience, just hostility.

  9. Grinding ? Questing ? Who cares ? on World of Warcraft Launches · · Score: 4, Interesting

Those that play and complain about grinding out levels or crappy questing really need to analyze why they are playing these games in the first place. I play to have fun. Sometimes I find it fun to mindlessly sit there and swat at rats for hours on end. Most of the time I don't. When I don't I stop playing or find another game to play. WoW is more fun for me because the journey (leveling) is more important then the destination (uber toon). I enjoy trying to get there in WoW. The quests are fun and the terrain/graphics are enough to keep me coming back. I guess that's why I also ride a motorcycle. Because sometimes it's about the journey, not the destination. Who wants to get there fast, I'm enjoying the ride. LouSir

  14. Errr. Don't think so. on DAoC To Ameliorate Level Grind With Giveaways · · Score: 4, Insightful

I quit DAOC several months ago. I was a casual player and played about 1 hour per day. I grinded through all 50 levels although most of the time it did not feel like a grind. It took close to 2 years I quit because the high level content like Master Levels took a 5 to 10 hour chunk of time. How could they possibly expect people to sit at a computer for that long a period of time (when not at work :) ). Even RVR takes a large time commitment. By the time you get a decent group moving my hour was up and the wife was yelling. I don't think free levels is the answer. But making high level content doable for the casual player is a step in the right direction. Lou Sir

First off, I really wanted a gmail account so I could email and receive large files. I also wanted a cool username (turns out it still was not available but one real close was). I jumped on ebay after I read about this in Wired Friday afternoon. The most current auction was quickly rising. It went from $60 to $75 in just a few minutes. I was not willing to pay this price. So, I scrolled down a few listings and there was an account that had a buy now for $40. These people were bidding each other up when they could have gotten one instanly for 1/2 the price they were bidding. I'm sure glad there were lazy ebay bidders. LouSir
