"When women are paid less then men for the same work" - Where are these women? I want to hire them. If they will do the same work as men for less money, I am going to replace all the men that work for me with these women. Any sensible employer would do the same.
Mod way up. I have a relative who has moderately severe schizophrenia. Unable to make good decisions is exactly what this condition causes. Add in some paranoid delusions and you have a person who seems perfectly ok (on a good day) but is utterly incapable of functioning in society.
You just listed the long term goal. The immediate goals of a terrorist act is to cause terror and to provoke a disproportionate reprisal. The reprisals helps further radicalize people and help recruit more members. I think they succeed on all 3 short term goals. As for the long term goals, the war isn't over yet.
The problem is Engineers can read and write but Artsies can't do math.
My engineering degree required 5 full-year Arts courses along with all the math science and engineering. These were the same courses that students in the faculty of Arts took. Writing a coherent essay is something anybody should be able to do,
On the other hand, how do you teach even beginning level engineering classes to someone who last took math and science in the 10th grade. Even if you dumbed it down for the Artsies, first year physics for example, without trig and calculus would be impossible. Chem 100 without Chem 11 and 12?
Does it still come bundled with Crapware? Why can't Oracle just put a bullet into whoever signed the deal with Ask.com, and start behaving like a big software company again?
I have 2 junior engineers and 2 engineers-in-training working for me. One of each sex (like Noah's Ark really) and men and women in each job class are paid the same. I have one senior guy who is paid more, but he has 25 years in the field and a lot more knowledge and skills.
Get a good mask. I use something like this https://www.acklandsgrainger.c... . It has big cartridges, silicone rubber face mask and a decent exhaust port. The right cartridges will protect you from just about anything and you can wear it all day.
On the other hand, it's probably not "Medically approved".
The author has never worn a mask or they wouldn't be spouting such nonsense. Professionally fitted? They usually come in small, medium and large. Pick the right one. They need to make a good seal on your face, so lose the beard if you really need a good seal.Other than that, keep them snug enough so that when you inhale, the air enters through the filter cartridges and not through leaks around the mask. Because the filters slightly restrict airflow the mask tends to pull in tighter as you inhale. Uncomfortable? I guess comfort is a personal thing, but I've worn a half mask with N95 cartridges all damn day without too much discomfort. It sure beats hacking up drywall dust for the next 3 days.
"beards and turbans for Muslims". ??? Beards and turbans are a fashion accessory for Muslims. For Sikhs, however, they are a religious necessity; part of the Khalsa. Are you mixing up Moslems and Sikhs? Americans often do that. FWIW Sikhs, with turbans, have a long military history and fought with distinction in the British, Indian and Canadian armies. There is no teacher shortage around here. The boomer's kids are all done high school and enrollments have been dropping for a decade. Because of the downturn in 2008 older teachers are working longer or coming back after retirement. New teachers can be on the spare board (1 or 2 days a month) for 3 to 5 years before getting a full time shift. And the universities keep cranking out teachers at the same pace as always.
Interesting theory on the origin of the word gyp, but around here gyp no longer has any trace of that connotation, and is in no way associated with any racial or ethnic slur.
Thanks. I always like to hear actual experiences rather than assume I know what other people are thinking. My daughter got best in school marks in math and science, as well as in fine arts (drawing and painting). I would have been happy if she had decided to go into engineering like me, but I tried to not pressure her in any way. She ended up choosing to study urban planning, which has both hard science and creative and design aspects.
Why don't we ask the women? Survey young women at different stages oh high school and university. Ask them what they would like to have a career in. Maybe ask the smart ones why they chose not to go into CS.
Any women reading slashdot right now who didn't go into CS care to tell us why?
As a non-USA-citizen, I don't have any stake in the outcome, but I'm really curious to see how this affects Christie's run for the White House. Is this a big enough problem to derail his carefully crafted "Pragmatic, bi-partisan, get stuff done" persona, or will it blow over?
My personal take, FWIW, is that he either knew and is lying, or he didn't and is a schmuck because his whole team leadership lied to him for months and he didn't catch on. If I was a voter I would be asking myself, "What if this guy is elected president, and then one day gets mad at me?"
Didn't Sears used to do that. I remember walking away from a $200 pile of random merchandise when I got to the till and was told "Sorry we only take Sears cards". - "OK then, I guess I'll buy this somewhere else/"

The Big Bang is highly questionable and politicized? How so?

When I heard the joke it was a Marine telling it. It ended with " ...and the Marine just sat quietly, stirring the ashes with his dick."
Thanks for that. First useful post on this thread.
"Canada is 95+% white." Have you been to Vancouver lately?
Sounds like she rented from the Gord.

You always want what you don't have. People never change.
I have a gramer pendant, but I stopped wearing it because the chain kept snagging on my t shirts.

In other unionized workplaces they don't call it tenure, they call it seniority, but it amounts to the same thing.

You forgot the part about the 4 day time cube.
