  5. Did Amazon really charge the CC? on Amazon Adjusts Prices After Sales Error · · Score: 1

I really doubt it. It'd be stupid and could cause them much much more in lawsuit. There is simply no stand for them to charge the CC unauthorized.

It has nothing to do with morality. If Amazon wants the money back, they can sue the customers, but I doubt they will.

Nobody will pay for this technology until the law is passed that every car must have this equipment, and that will not happen in 10 years.

Aside from that, I don't see this as "too wrong". We already give a lot of control to the computer, like ABS. Also, note the article says "will not start", not "shut down". If the engine is already running, the system will not kick in. So to circumvent it, just drink after you start the engine.

  17. Patent and standards on CSIRO Wireless Patent Reaffirmed In US Court · · Score: 3, Insightful

A technology will have a very hard time being standardized if someone holds the patent. However, in this case and others, nobody realized the patent issue when it was being pushed as a standard. Many years later, when everyone is using it, the patent holder comes out and claims the ownership and starts to collect payments. It's too late to correct the mistake. If the patent holder had been saying so from the beginning, it would not have had a chance to grow such a market value.

I think there should be some laws to restrict such a practice.
