First off addind more things like.biz and.web or.whatever are not going to make more domains. Instead every company that has a domain already is going to register their name under all the new suffixes and then we are going to be almost exactly where we are now.
Secondly I understand their reasoning behind not using.porn,.xxx, and.kids. BUT why don't they just do something to the affect of.kids.us,.kids.fr, etc... I think each country at least has a decent idea of what their kids can look at and what is considered to be porn. Then if the US deems that the french have decent kids sites they can allow.kids.fr to not be filtered and such.
I just read the article and damnit... I knew it had to be slashdotted already... I got a few pictures but damn... it's so gonna toast his site... I think slashdot should have to warn sites a week in advance or something... that's just ridiculous... just my opinion...
Oh yeah... and the pictures I saw were VERY cool so go to the site... hehehehe...
I think everybody in here would agree with me that the most comfortable positions are the most painful ones. I would spend all day finding my "position" and the chair would keep correcting me... how worthless is that?
I dunno... it's not THAT big a deal... I don't think I've ever even looked for software at wal-mart... if I'm gonna go get software I'll go to a software store or get it online... and how well is it really going to sell? not that well in my opinion. No offense to wal-mart shoppers ( hey I shop there too) but Wal-mart would be about the last place I would expect somebody to shop for linux... most people hear of linux online or from a friend I would assume and can get it online or from a friend. I dunno... just my 2 cents...
I bet their insurance rates are gonna go WAYYYYY up. Maybe the two galaxies can settle without telling their insurance agencies... or maybe not since it's on CNN and they've probably already heard about it. Damn CNN...
Oh come on... she might be good but a girlie can't do it first... or something.... just kidding really. I respect it. I'm scared of heights and couldn't imagine skydiving from the top of my apartment.
Like... when I shut off my computer I firmly believe that the internet as a whole just stops... I have a cable connection and the whole internet travels through it so when the power goes out in my area nobody can use the internet... I think... that's what the leprechauns told me anyway...
I don't care who "replaces" Mulder... I think the series should just die... here are my reasons...
Mulder is already going to be in 11 out of 20 episodes. Can't he just not be in the last nine?
Why can't the last 9 episodes have Scully and the Lone Gunmen searching for Mulder then next year, instead of having "The X-Files" have "The Lone Gunmen". Rumors have been flying around about that show and most people want that and don't want more X-Files anyway.
Anyway... I am a huge X-Files fan so don't think I'm knocking anything but... freakin' die already...
Although I don't really know how they make their money one night I came up with this idea.
Say in one day paypal transfers $5,000 (not unreasonable... I believe it is actually a lot more)... people leave the money at paypal for a while because they just do... if I had money at paypal I'd leave it there... paypal can then get interest off of that money I would assume. And that would be a lot of interest. Granted they would have to get other money somewhere but that would be a good source of money. According to the article there are 2.6 million users. If everybody has $1 in there account then that's 2,600,000 dollars... at even 2% interest that's a lot of money... even accumulated monthly...
Slashdot... of course it had to be slashdot...

I remember back when I was in elementry school and ever time you read a book you got a stamp. After you got so many stamps you'd get a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. A much better incentive to get kids to read would be something like... "Read 10,000 books and you can go to space!" WOO HOO!:)
Why should they even bother making a replacement? He is going to be in 11 of the 24 episodes (there are usually roughly 24). That's almost half the episodes. He can die mid season or even appear every other episode or something. There are always episodes that form the "plot" and then there are episodes that just go off and have no real bearing on the series. Why don't they just film the 11 plot bearing episodes with Mulder in them and then the remaining 13 without him be stuff about Scully. With all the talk of X-files not even being continued for the 8th season it might as well stop after this one gets over. I am an avid X-files fan but I do hope that they don't let it run on and on until it is a worthless show.
Just out of curiosity what would happen if I registered "www.mpics.com" and then made the web site "oly.mpics.com"? Would they do anything about that? I think big companies/groups should stop trying to run over people all the time. Just because they have more money than the common folk doesn't mean that they can sue our stuff away from us.
I do think the deserve www.olympics.com but anything else is just ridiculous. "Hey, I tried to see what was happening with the Olympics but I keep getting this pizza place instead!" "That's because you accidentally type pizza after olympics..." "Oh! Silly me!"
I believe the article says that they did install it but due to incompatibility issues with the operating system it was removed. Since it basically broke their service it was removed. They didn't say that they wouldn't install one. Although I could be wrong. Been there before.
The standardization of web browsing takes way too long. I think that if Microsoft wants to introduce new features it is a good thing providing that they let all the other web browsers know how they did it. If it takes Netscape 6 months to get their browser up with IE that's fine. Most people won't readily use the new features that quickly. It's a hard call overall. On one side it makes Netscape look like crap but on the otherside if we tell Microsoft "no" then technology is being withheld. I hate MS just as much as the next/.er but I think if MS gives some specifications to Netscape thus giving Netscape a chance to catch up it's all fair. I mean... look at the blink tag! IE still doesn't have this great tag as far as I know.... I love blinky text! (note: you must have netscape to view the superb blinkiness)
Really though... what are the odds that you are going to be on the same server as that person and on top of that if it is a popular song there are going to be many people that have it and therefore when you start playing the song in mid download (like I am always doing) I think you would notice. Then just get it from somebody else. If there was a HUGE amount of people that did this then it would possibly be a problem but from what I can tell it's only one or two people. It's the equivalent of posting "Britney Spears Nude!" pics in a newsgroup only to find out that it's old lady porn. Although I am much more for downloading a song of a cuckoo bird than looking at old naked ladies. I see it as being a minor annoyance. Actually a waste of time if you ask me.
Once I went to the MTV TRL page and downloaded all of the songs that were listed there. My bandwidth was instantly bogged down by people downloading them (they are the "best" songs in the world so why not get them!:) ). But if I didn't have them someone else would have. It's the same thing with this cuckoo mess. If you notice that it's really a bird just stop getting it and get it from the next joe.
Sorry... couldn't resist the minor pun. But seiously... if you make.gnu you have to make a ton more. Also.gnu if used correctly doesn't really help the majority of the world find things. How many people in this world comparitively know what gnu is in the first place. Many many people know what a commercial site is, know what an organization is, know what a network is (mildly at least), know what a government is, etc... if.gnu is added it will just lead to more confusion. It's already hard enough to remember what goes in between the www. and the.com,.org,.net,.gov. If we add.gnu there will inevitably be more TLD's to remember. In my opinion.kids or something to that effect would be beneficial (for filtering purposes (blah!)). Another thing is that we all know that (i am gonna use microsoft for this arguement) microsoft will register www.microsoft.everything. Frankly I don't blame them because if we have 500 TLD's that are commonly used how can I remember which one it is that I am supposed to go to. It is much more convenient for me if they ALL go to www.microsoft.com. it's just like the whitehouse.com / whitehouse.gov thing. One goes to porn, one goes to the whitehouse. Granted it's obvious but where does whitehouse.* go to? The fewer TLD's the better. Yes it would be "cool" to have a whole lot to choose from but on the same token it would be very, very confusing. Mainly because I'm to lazy to ever bookmark things so I just remember all the URL's in my head.
I don't see this movie as being that great. I think they did an excellent job on casting but at the same time I don't expect much out of the plot. The reason being because so much that most geeks already should know will have to be reexplained. For instance the super powers that will be used throughout the movie will have to be explained at least somewhat for the people that don't really know what the X-Men are (yes there are some). Although I am pre-reviewing this (since I haven't seen the movie of course) the first half of the movie will probably be spent establishing character which for the majority of us slashdotters will probably be a yawn. It would be hard to make a movie without establishing character since there are quite a few people that don't really know the X-men. I think once the movie gets going it might be good but since the first 30 mins or so of this 90 min movies is going to be all about establishing the many already familiar (to us) characters it might be quite a yawn. Just my thoughts.
Well at 10:45 CST NCS shut down their exchange server. It probably won't affect business too much except people will have to talk to each other on the phone (GASP!). Somebody finally loved me which makes me happy though. What about people that aren't here today that come in tomorrow though. Maybe more harm will come tomorrow.
I got to work this morning and it had found its way to a lot of people's inboxes her at NCS in Iowa City, IA, USA. I didn't have any of the e-mails but everybody else seemed to. maybe nobody loves me... everybody knew about it and deleted the messages anyway. Nothing bad happened to us as far as I know.
I like computer based manuals due to the fact that I can search them quite easily but I tend to print out the manuals too if there isn't one already available. Until everybody has some device that they can carry around with them it's nice to have a paper manual to bring on the bus, to lunch, etc... for instance I work as a SAS programmer and have 4 1000 page books along with an online reference. But most of the time I use the books because I have tons of little sticky notes all over them and they are much easier to write on than the online version. Then if I can't find it in the paper version I go to the online version. Keep the paper books coming!
Was it just me or did the article say they could exchange their stuff at 7-11? Sounds sorta odd... I guess there's just a lot of em... sorta like voting takes place at schools... weird...

"You would think. But that took you a tad longer than 30 minutes son."
"But... but..."
"But nothing. Why the hell do you think I moved to the moon in the first place?"
Sorry... I couldn't resist.
Sure... I just go and buy myself some Perl books for the "old" version and then they have to go and make a new one. :)
