If you are stupid enough to purchase a laser printer for your counterfeiting ring with a CREDIT CARD, you deserve to get caught.
Lesson be learned: anything you purchase with the intent of doing something "illegal", you buy it with cash. No matter how small - growing lights, DVD burners, you name it. A little bit goes a long way when if you ever manage to get yourself investigated.
When they ask for your phone #, refuse to give it to them. It's that simple.
I see the verizon commercials all the time for wimax. I think it's $60 a month for "anywhere" connectivity".
Not bad as long as the speeds are realistic and not lagged in any way, shape, or form. Kinda worthless, IMO, if you couldn't do something like play a steady game of WoW while riding a bus.
Well, we all know Dell pieces together the shittest of shit hardware, so they'll be doing the same with their graphics cards.
In the end, it's just more control over us. Damn the man......er wait, am I joking? Damn. I don't know anymore...
To play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray content you need a HDCP compatible monitor. Why? Because these formats use HDCP to encrypt a video signal as it travels along a digital connection to an output device, to prevent people copying it.
It seems that the "boo-hoo pity me" issue the entertainment industry is crying over piracy is being exploited by MS and the like to FORCE widespread DRM in a similar fasion that our country uses and exploits "terrorism" to get away with things that they normally wouldn't be able to do.
Do graphics cards aid in transferring encrypted high quality digital images?
You forget that most people that buy MS stuff are consumer sheep that either don't know any better or simply "dont' see what the problem is".
Most businesses that buy MS stuff are also those that have massive budgets that don't mind spending $200 on an OS. It's all numbers to them.
MS will still thrive simply because not many major 3rd party companies have the balls to make linux apps and... well, people are always buying new machines.
Fact is, most people are idiots and too afraid to change. MS is just exploiting that. Properly educate people and MS goes bye bye.
Flat out, an OS does NOT need to be this suped up in order to operate. It's not like the OSes get any better. So great, we have an explorer shell that basically requires people to go out and buy new $1500 machines.
You'd expect applications themselves to use more memory as technology gets cheaper - but an OS using that much memory is uncalled for and flat out ridiculous.
Hell, there's no reason for XP to not run on a P2 300 w/ less than 64 MB RAM.
It's just an operating system... nothing more.
Can someone please explain why a "new and improved" (ooh file searching is better, big whoop) explorer shell demands so much?
With all the nice budget cuts from our oh-so-wonderful president, I wouldn't expect this anytime in the near future... despite the fact we should more or less be there already.
And that's the typical response "Why don't you lobby".
Well, genius, maybe you haven't realized that most of us don't have billions of dollars to persuade lawmakers with....or do you live in pretend land where politicians that can actually make a difference actually LISTEN to people as opposed to the groups and industries that support them?

Eh... not quite.
Advanced graphics are always being pushed regardless... did the jump from NES to SNES happen because of porn? No.
Broadband... came about because people are sick of slow connections in general. The speed at which data can be transferred is always improving and will continue until there is no wait whatsoever to transfer information.
These things have advanced so quickly because they're needed as our country becomes more technologically advanced, not because of porn.
When it boils down to it, the game needs to be challenging and fun.
Wind Waker wasn't kiddie because of it's graphics, IMO, but because there wasn't any challenge to it compared to its predecessors. It felt very dumbed down.
I didn't mind the cell-shading at all. To be honest, I don't care WHAT the game looks like, hell, it could have the 16-bit overhead style - just give it some worthy CONTENT.
Games these days focus too much on eye candy, which ultimately ends up taking away from content.
In the end, the success of the new Zelda won't be on how it looks, but whether or not it's an ACTUAL sequel that fits what Zelda really is: tons of dungeons filled with CHALLENGING puzzles that get progressively harder as the game goes on.
The key idea here is SOFTWARE patents, which do nothing but insure a legal form of extortion for those who use them.
For example, look at what happened with Carmack's Reverse during Doom 3. Someone took a common sense approach at solving a problem and patented it, now anyone that uses this method has to pay up.
To put it bluntly, it's bullshit and is the perfect example of manipulating the patent system and turning it into legal forms of extortion.
Each and every software "IP" that has been patented has been done with this idea in mind and it is completely runing everything that could be. If I am wrong, please post a counter example.
As long as it's not a SOFTWARE patent, you're good to go, which kinda throws out the argument: "well, the computer you're using wouldn't be as cheap as it is without patents.."
If you have a couple hundred pantents for "IP", you have abused the patent system and are a contributing factor to the problem.
As a result, you will be required to PAY for CLOSED SOURCE software that most likely won't fit your needs. Bill might be happy to have you back, but the drain on your budget won't be at all appealing.
Why should leeches in society be allowed to benefit in the same manner as those that don't exploit the system for financial gain?
It's people like this that you don't want using free software because they will, at some point, try to exploit it.
Shoot lasers at the hurricane and we can SCARE IT AWAY.. either that or there will be a fierce battle of lasers vs. wind, and we all know lasers are the strongest thing ever.
Fuck. The answer has been here the whole time and we just didn't see it.
I never understood why Bill Gates didn't retire once he was worth an astronomical amount of money.
You hear about Ballmer flippin out, throwing chairs because he lost someone to Google, but what does he care? How OLD is he?
I'll guess... early 50's, and looking at him, he's not exactly in great shape and probably has a shitload of stress to deal with, which means he'll be dead in 20 years.
Why not just fucking retire? You're worth billions... so what personal feeling of satisfaction is to be had by conquering google? Even if you don't conquer google, you'll still be filthy fucking rich.
What's the point? It's not like they offer quality products..
You people act as if there isn't a way to remove DRM, heh.

It was an example, dipshit, seeing as how you're completely unaware that most wifi BB have shitty unreliable connections.
Replace "play wow" with any of your favorites:
downloading porn
p2p
reading slashdot
Get the idea, dick?

I've received calls asking them these questions and they flat out refuse to answer them (their name, company name, supervior, etc).
How do you go about suing them if you have no idea who they are?
Well, we all know Dell pieces together the shittest of shit hardware, so they'll be doing the same with their graphics cards.

Year after year after year... "Linux will be mainstream in 5 years!"
We've been hearing that for over 10 years now.
So just stop. Really. It's boring. It's old.
Unless you're posting these articles to humor us... no one wants to read the same useless "studies" that don't amount to jack shit.
It really irks me that sites are somehow figuring out ways around the pop-up blocker.
:)
Usually casalemedia and fastclick are notorious for this.
Has this issue been resolved yet?
Also, couldn't you just... hardcode it to ignore ANY rendering from those sites (amongst others) since they're not really legit?
With all the nice budget cuts from our oh-so-wonderful president, I wouldn't expect this anytime in the near future... despite the fact we should more or less be there already.

That is what this is trying to prevent.
Not quite.
You're kinda missing the entire point.
DRM and patents are NOT good and do nothing but stifle innovation. The GPL is insuring that this won't happen.
There is nothing at all wrong with that, unless, of course, you (generally speaking) are trying to set up some sort of thought/idea extortion.
Just a matter of time before it's reverse engineered :)
..isn't actually all that different from those fuckin.. 3d staring pictures (the name eludes me).
Relax your eyes.. kinda look through it. You will see the partial outlines of certain objects.
I dunno wtf they are. Strawberries carrying luggage through an airport terminal or something...
Seeing as how they're getting away with this shit, do you people still feel as though we should obey and respect the laws designed to protect them?
I don't.
See, I read stories like this, and regardless how many people tell me I'm wrong, I honestly do feel justification for all the movies I download.
I feel no pity for them. They've done this to themselves, and apparently they haven't learned their lesson.
If they can fuck us, then there's absolutely no reason for us to fuck them harder (ooh dirty).
Just stop buying the DVDs and download them instead. Do your part and fight back since none of us have billions to persuade lawmakers with.
Damn, why didn't I think of that?
Shoot lasers at the hurricane and we can SCARE IT AWAY.. either that or there will be a fierce battle of lasers vs. wind, and we all know lasers are the strongest thing ever.

Well, I don't exactly have millions of dollars to persuade lawmakers, so... resort to next best thing.
There's only consequence IF you get caught, which is actually very difficult.
Seriously...
Shit like this happens based on pure greed, and they expect us to sit there and blindly follow the law? Hah.
Even people on slashdot that are always siding with the RIAA on those piracy stories.. how can you justify this?
The law is only good for so much, people. You CAN ignore it without consequence, you know..
