Oh man. When I first read that I thought he said "from my crotch to my fridge"
Thanks for all the interesting and thoughtful comments. I see there are several areas that need work that either I overlooked or thought weren't as important as some of you said they were.
I originally didn't post the project url thinking that I would get more generalized and non biased opinions regarding my question. Not only did you look up the project in question, but even the original author (Jon Roig) spoke up regarding the current state of developement on the original branch.
I have also come to reconsider who my target market is. True, the project purports to be for real estate agents but I think it is more for the mini-IT departments supporting those agents. None of my own direct users have any knowlege of html, php, mysql, etc. They want to be able to edit/update listings and they want it to work.
The ability to change the look with skins or templates as suggested will probably be one of the non-essential upgrades that I will work on implementing.
Documentation and a potential rework of the project site are now on the table.
Again, thanks,
I don't know if you are a troll or not.
If you went to the version at open-realty.org great. Those guys are doing a pretty good job as well.
Already i've had the time to read many posts relating to this lament, however the author here still hasn't updated his site that something is going down with his shiz... I've now gone to openrealty and the offshoot program and it's quite cute.
So, I originally submitted this last Wed. One week ago. It took that long to be accepted for whatever reason. Did the site get slashed? I don't know. I didn't sit here clicking refresh for a week. It's possible that it slowed down, but I won't know that without skimming through the log files.
If the site wasn't totally killed then I think that is a fantastic testament to the value of LAMP on a little bitty server about my "server"
The FSF would then value the code at some ridiculous value, giving the owner a massive tax write-off that is much more valuable than it sitting around collecting dust, and more than the guy could have ever paid for it. One of the biggest misconceptions regarding the tax code is the value of donations. For instance, someone wanted me to tell him that it was ok (and legal) to value a donation of printing based upon what he could have charged for it (about $.05/copy) because he could get a valuation of the retail value of the copies.
The way it really works is more along the lines of: How much did it cost the company or individual doing the donation? In the above example maybe they could write off the amount that was donated- development costs if it was never publicly released and they *paid* development costs.
Of course this is Russian Developers so probably nothing will come of the donation avenue.
IAATP(I am a tax professional) and have seen (and heard)RMS speak on Copyright. I definately enjoyed the comparison to the tax code. With taxes it's usually the "exception to the exception" that trips people up.
I like RMS' ideas regarding changes to copyright law as touched on in this article. While he may seem 'out there' to some, his idea about licensing software/code in two distinct parts was intriguing. License the engine or framework as some form of free code, the creative part as artistic. This way, you're not reinventing the wheel but can still benefit from your work.
BTW- he also said a far shorter copyright should apply to text books as they are updated so frequently as well as software as its useful life is potentially shorter than that of a painting or fictional work.

"Some systems are obviously more important than others; it probably doesn't matter if the target identification system fails for a few seconds."
Unless you're on the wrong end of the target id system. We have enough 'friendly fire'(although who cares how 'friendly' it is when you're dead?) problems already. I don't care what OS it's using, it needs to be fixed.
Remember only individuals can vote. Corporations cannot vote. This is part of the balance that we can achieve. Vote against the politicians that you don't like and vote for the ones you do like.
Welcome to the new paradigm, where businesses must actually have a plan. We will miss the days that one could justify burning millions because of the number of eyeballs.
Now, the advertising revenue is smaller and real value has to be considered. Is it worth more to you to not have/. or to see an ad? Or is it worth more to buy a subscription and not see the ad at all? Now that the net has come out to the real world of valuations and investors aren't throwing goog money after bad, these guys at least need to break even to stay around.
Last year they paid a dividend for the first time in history in anticipation of the largest deficit increase^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H tax cut in history. Corporations didn't want the dividend cut that Bush proposed as it benefits shareholders but not the Corps. The Administration pressured the corps to get behind this deal or never get another break from them (Bush administration)again.
If you rearrange the letters in Gartner Group can you get "Microsoft Whore"? No but you can get Garter Group'n, related to Garter Belt and thus- anyone's whore...
"SCO will hold harmless commercial Linux customers that purchase a UnixWare license against any past copyright violations, and for any future use of Linux in a run-only, binary format."
Of course that means that they would be in violation of the GPL by not offering source code. I mean does code ole Darl really think they can violate someone elses license because they claim theirs was violated?
"BitKeeper, from what I understand, was the best alternative out there at the time. Unfortunately, the maintainer is proving buggy and may be unstable under certain conditions."
You mean unstable as in 'we'll change the protocol every six months' ?
So. Can.NET scale to 100 concurrent connections? And if it can't, what can be done to reduce the number of connections? Why are there that many concurrent connections, are they persistent?
No doubt this will melt into my OS is better than yours and never answer the question.
Maybe Postgresql running on the Windows server will be a better choice? You still have the Win interface if that really is required, plus a better db than MSSQL.
so that the next time they observe a piece of foam coming off during the launch, they will take the time to repair the wing before they reenter the atmosphere.
During the ABC story last night on TV, they stated they watched foam hit the Shuttles every time. The problem is that the engineers were ignored by(and didn't pursue the issue with) what amounts to middle managers. Top staff didn't receive the recomendations by at least one engineer to photograph the shuttle in orbit. It seems to me that it boils down to people not speaking up, and when they do being ignored and not passing concerns all the way up to the head of NASA. Some of these people have now been reassigned.
What better way to show that it's stupid than to 'overuse' it? Linus Torvalds sends DMCA letter to SCO's upstream provider? Cool....

Could you be more specific? Which parts did you have trouble with? Which page did you start on?
Thanks
Not sure which email address to use to contact you. Email me at my user name and domain.
Oh crap! I forgot to add the paypal link... that's where I went wrong.

www.rwcinc.net/freerealty ;)
Which of course will get modded as redundant..
That might not be meaningful traffic. 1000 downloads don't mean anything if it's into /dev/null, which is why it's posted to freshmeat when I release.

Yeah, unless it's already 'away'
