I call them iBooks. Apple outside, IBM inside. Sure it may only be a G3 (or G4 if you get a new one) but it would be IBM (G4 Powerbooks are still motorola me thinks).
That requires eyes. A few days ago a friend sent me this mp3 (dunno where he found it) You can *listen* to someone sing the decss code, and its not richard stallman style either! Check it out at http://macwhore.net/the_computer_code_hoedown_.mp3
i just moved from southern california and will never have to see any of those comercials again:-) His christmas comercials were even worse, using "hoe hoe" instead of 00. Even though I do hate it, his marketing did work, as I not only know the number, but also the place andw hat they do, Empire Carpet, where they install it next day or some crap like that.
While I love Objective-C and OpenSTEP (I am a Cocoa programmer), I can't see GNUstep becomming the "VB" of Linux. For two reasons. 1) It is ugly compared to everything esle (GTK/QT) 2) It dosn't intigrate with the environment, mainly the menu being a separete window. Fixing that shouldn't be too hard, but that is what I see as the main set back as of now.
It depends on what you want and what your experience is. If I were first making the switch and were a newbie to linux, I would wait for a 2.6 distro to come out, such as Fedora Core 2 or Mandrake 10. If you are more of a poweruser, I would go with Gentoo or Debian. In the end, you will probably switch distros a few times until you find the one that fits you just right, or close enough.
Have them use Evolution to replace Outlook, and use crossover office so they can still run Powerpoint, although Star/Open Office's impress is quite good.
We have three "standards" out there. Real, WMV, and Quicktime. The first one sucks like you said because of the software, but they support* odd platforms (Linux/PPC/Alpha). The second is very closed like the first, but is that of a convicted monopoly, and is generally full of drm, and only supports Windows/Mac. The third is mpeg-4 based (an open standard), "requires" their software on Windows, but shold be playable in MPlayer, it also works very well on non-supported platforms (linux). If Quicktime died, then we would be left with Spyware or DRM, neither of which sound like much fun. It would be cool if people would use shoutcast or icecast, but chances are that won't happen because lack of support
well part way. It is running 2.6.1
goto http://www.gc-linux.org/down/dmesg.txt first few lines say Total memory = 23MB; using 64kB for hash table (at c01c0000)

I can configure it to whatever I want it to look and feel.
So what you are saying is that people can set it to look and feel like whatever they want as long as its not XP? People may like the XP look and feel because it is familar to them.
The _day_ I purchase APP for my iBook 700 (which has been sent back to Apple 4 times for this problem in 11 months),
It is apple policiy that if you send your computer in a 4th time if you request a new machine they will give you one, as closly configured to what it can be. I was having problems with my iBook g3 600/dvd-rom/10gig, on the 4th time in for repair i requested a new one and they sent me a 900MHz g3/combo/40gig. It was new, just like I had ordered it from the apple store.

except their mac department is close to cupertino..

the difference is that apple dosn't *abuse* their monopoly with quicktime, while Microsoft does.
except you still wouldn't be able to use your wireless card because broadcom has yet to release specs or drivers for their chipset.
moved to houston, which is to my knowledge, an empire free zone :)

yes it does, but it also tracks where you browse (for page rank etc). You can turn it off, but it disables "advanced" features.
