I hope to god you pat yourself on the back in congratulations for how clever you every time you strike someone down with wordplay. Don't let the fact that you actually say nothing in support of your own conclusions distance you from a feeling of success.
I've had it happen at odd occasions over the last year. I don't think they're fixing it, unless you've redefined fixing to mean "counting their stacks of ad cash."
Nice to see someone else understands. I get a pit in my stomach every time I read some self-righteous tirade from a supposedly intelligent person that amounts to nothing more than a cry for free entertainment.
Reading through this topic made me feel like I was watching some bizarre geek bukkake film. I just feel bad for whoever that is at the center covered by the result of all of you mentally masturbating so furiously.
I haven't spoken to my feelings on the matter, and "clever turns of phrase" came from the parent poster. My beef with the whole movement is that I haven't seen a cogent argument yet. "I want, I want, I want" doesn't exactly inspire sympathies. You can call it wrong until the end of time, but that conclusion only works when it rests on top of assumptions that not everyone carries.
Also, if you can't handle a little disparagement in pursuit of your goals, you're a child playing at being an adult. You need to realize that there is reasoned opposition that isn't purely evil just because you say it is. Until you have that realization, you'll continue to fight a losing battle.
And please, if you don't want copyright infringement called theft, let's not compare copyright to slavery. To quote pulp fiction, it's not the same ballpark, not the same league, and not even the same game.
I think the problem can be summed up more as "those who think C should be the only language will do everything in their power to denigrate everything else."
I understand the bit where the game is dead to you, but why is your opinion so important that most people should share it? A little more perspective, please.
I extended a similar offer once before: you are welcome to come to Lafayette Park next to the White House to watch me scream out that Bush is an asshole and he should be impeached.
And all you need to have your point of view is an ignorance of the facts of the case and a deep seated belief that any government you don't like is a lapdog for Bush.
Anyone is entitled to their belief that they have special magical hearing powers that can discern frequencies above what has been encoded in a CD. The rest of us are entitled to ridicule such beliefs.
Are you falling into the common trap (around here, at least) of believing that anyone who disagrees with you is being led, and only you and others who think like you think independently? You post some interesting stuff, but my opinion of you falls sharply if that's your stance.
As far as replacements, an alternative would be government grants to artists in lieu of the money copyright gives. I consider the BBC to be a prime example of this not only working, but giving better quality material than what a more capitalist copyright-based system can give.
And as a side effect which you may not have consciously considered, your taste is now imposed on everybody. I wonder how much that influences your beliefs?
It means not everyone is party to the slobberfest.
Wow, you're willing to dismiss someone for not echoing your opinions about entertainment? That's very elite of you.
Deal or No Deal.
I don't watch that either, though. I could probably name more if you'd like.
I don't like them either and I have a nice easy reason: a soap opera in space is still a soap opera.
I think the problem here is simple: joke - funny = stupid statement. You got caught in the whirlwind is all.

I've never had Oracle auto-commit without being explicitly told to do so. Are you sure your vitriol is targeted to the right software?
Don't just apologize to the rest of the world. We in the US who wasted our time reading that demand an apology as well.

Not as pithy, I'm aware.
Did you just compare the comments on Slashdot to professionally produced television shows? The mind boggles.
I understand the bit where the game is dead to you, but why is your opinion so important that most people should share it? A little more perspective, please.
Clever turns of phrase seem to be about 90% of the anti-copyright toolkit. The other 10% is wishful thinking.

You pick the time.

Claptrap was a little strong, but this is Slashdot. You have to act like you know more than everybody else to fit in around here :)

There are lots of people with opinions that they believe are absolutely correct, no two ways about it. That doesn't make it necessarily so.

Possibly (I could be wrong) the OP isn't interested in finding a feedback loop where only his opinions are echoed. Unlike you, apparently.
There are also those of us enjoying our working 360s. I know that doesn't fit into the worldview, though, so I'll just keep quiet.
