No, the big attraction is that it's free. Kinda like how people spew bullshit about rights and artists and blah blah blah then pirate music and movies, providing no compensation for the people who worked on them.
I mean, look around this site. What do you think the percentage of people that can actually program is? 25% tops, I say. People are just cheap. That's the big attraction of open source.
It's best to stay away from controversial companies like Disney. However, if Steve Jobs becomes CEO at some point, the Slashdot will love the company fervently.
Additional upmodding tips: Bush bad, Microsoft bad, RMS good, Apple good, Sony bad unless PS3 then good, Nintendo good except Wii, Microsoft bad, Bill Gates bad, Linux good, BSD license kinda good but not as good as GPL, global warming good, religion bad, Microsoft bad. Defend Al Gore when anyone brings up that internet shit. Socialism is misunderstood and awesome. Capitalism is the only true evil. Making money is bad.
Just follow these simple guidelines and you'll have excellent karma in no time. Not that karma is really useful, but whatever.
Safari is included with Mac OS X - but you can delete the app in one step.
Let's not be intellectually dishonest. Safari is just a front end to WebKit, much like Internet Explorer is a front end to MSHTML (or whatever they use now.) You can delete WebKit, but that's removing functionality from the OS that other apps expect to be present. The situation is almost exactly the same as with Windows.
The crux of the problem here is that people are applying the concept of morality to something that has no moral component. I actually find it emotionally draining to read these things, but the insight I derive into simpleminded good vs. evil conflicts is invaluable. (In the sense that I understand better how people react so that I may take advantage to achieve my own ends)
Oh, I've read it. I've release certain things under BSD, because when I give something away, I really give it away, not 'give it away but you've got to promise me shit in return.'
The vitriol of which you speak is very easy to figure out - GPL is only a good license if you want to force your way of thinking down stranger's throats. That's distasteful to a large number of us.
See, it's simple. When you're charging 10 dollars for something, and you sell one copy, and the person you sold that copy to then sells it for 5 dollars and you can't do anything about it, you can no longer sell it because no one will buy it from you.
Now reduce that price to free. Now tell me how you sell it, again? Oh yeah, you don't.
I object to your use of the word 'real.' Anyone that plays games is a real gamer. You refer specifically to the subset who somehow ties their penis size to the 1% increase in performance they get from putting their system at risk of meltdown by massively overclocking everything.
This is the crux of zealotry - you willingly put on blinders to your own faults, while spending all your energy pointing out the faults of others. It's why most people dismiss him (and zealots of all other stripes) as a loon.
There's no need to be presumptuous - the gaming choices in Windows are vastly more plentiful, and the performance is higher. It's what those of us who participate call a 'win-win.' Go ahead and be morally superior (haha) but realize that sometimes that comes with a price.
Posting to/. isn't always harmless. There's a high percentage of bullshit on here that gets modded up, for instance, causing people to have wrong information./. also serves as a left-wing feedback loop, which harms society's level of useful discourse.

No, what I'm really saying is this is all opinions and I have no absolutes to offer. Nor will I accept any. I just came off a little harsh initially.
I don't like the way Safari behaves. It does braindead things with the proxy in my office, for instance, amongst other things. Firefox is shitty on Mac, I'll admit, but that's more the fault of the Mac being a second class citizen in the Firefox world. Camino is the best compromise for me because it behaves sanely in the most circumstances for me.
I disagree with your interface complaints (the misanthropic comment). As someone who uses 5 different GUI systems on a daily basis, I assure you Mac has its share of UI stupidity that makes me wonder how people can be so zealotrous. When you're used to it (or use it exclusively) it may not be as prominent, but it's there.
I love the mentality of accusing people of selling out. It reveals a depth of thought that rivals the college student I shadowed during the DC World Bank/IMF protests of 2003, talking on her cell phone, fervently imploring that her friend not reveal to her father where she was. Fuckin brilliant.
Instead, MS treated users to blue screens of death for decades when simple things like memory protection were well known.
You're aware that one of the most common causes of a blue screen used to be memory protection violations in device drivers?
This is not to say Windows didn't crash a lot. I ask only because, given the way you worded your sentence, you appear to have pulled it straight from your ass.
I actually work through a clearinghouse that outsources all the background checks to a Pakastani firm with Indian management. There's no working phone lines as yet, but just reply to any of the spam you get with your personal information and it'll be on the way in a jiffy.
You're absolutely right. On a Windows machine, I merely play the game. On Linux, I have the satisfaction of solving the incredibly hard problem of actually getting the game to run. There's a lot to say for that feeling. It's worth the hours of playtime I lose.
Yeah, but the word we're talking about is 'blogs.' It's main purpose as a word is to help people who would feel sissy about keeping a diary keep a diary. It's not exactly an important word we're dealing with here.

"another company to ignore" is not an expression of practicality.

At one point I had the realization that this guy probably thinks about the playstation when he masturbates.

Suppose you were to crack yourself in the knees with a hammer. Should I take your complaints of pain seriously?
How many more pointless Microsoft "jokes" can we expect from you?
Personally, I use an axe.

Do your worst, mods. Take out all your petty frustrations on my little harmless (and accurate!) post.
