Who said it was? I didn't quote you the burst speed, I quoted the effective sustained bandwidth as measured by current USB connected hard drives.
The total bandwidth of the bus is 480 Mbps. Had I used that number, you would have a somewhat more legitimate gripe, although it would be misleading. As it is, you've said nothing.
We've gotta do a bit of torture to make you reasoning reasonable. What you're doing is equivalent to paying some random guy to take food from someone else's table and put it on yours. The waiter and the poor guy who ordered and paid for the food are both being stiffed, and you're just doing it to save a few bucks.

Considering this is Slashdot, it's entirely possible you haven't developed the necessary social sense to realize this, so I'll tell you: the Chuck Norris thing is played, and it never really reached a mass critical enough to become a lasting meme. Sorry - you'll just have to find some other favored annoyance.
Why would it be crazy? In any case, I don't think you understand the length of time involved here. It's not like 10,000 years is an easy thing for humans to conceptualize, never mind 'a couple million.'
Yeah, but simply put, if you piss someone off, they might beat you down. The morality of the situation doesn't assuage the bruising. It's not a 'punishment' for a 'crime,' it's a consequence of sharing reality with other human beings. Rail against it all you like, it's not going to go away until you excise emotions from the human experience.
Yeah, I don't know where people get off not doing things your way. I can't imagine why people would prefer to use a GUI. The more natural interaction, superior information organization, and overall higher visual appeal can't have anything to do with it. It must be ignorance.
(in keeping with a prior story, can anyone guess the intended tone of my post?)
Apparently you've made the all-too-common mistake of believing that only your usage pattern counts. There is a wide world out here, and you are but a small part of it. Nigh insignificant, in the grand scheme of things, and your opinions on hardware aren't really suitable for anyone but you.
There's this concept in the English language where one word can have multiple definitions. You'll have to expand your horizons a bit to understand that, but ultimately it will help you.
The number of ludditic comments on this technology website never cease to amaze me. To hear it from you guys, I would think we should all be happy with punch cards and blinkenlights.
Yeah, but you can't say *****.
Then again, a little fancy ASM code in all of the C++ flying around really could speed things up
Great, a micro optimizer in training. Just what the industry needed.

Let's go to the math:
USB 2.0 effective bandwidth: 320Mbps
Required bandwidth for DV: 59 Mbps
USB 2.0 bandwidth remaining: 261 Mbps
This isn't to say that transferring something over Firewire 800 isn't faster, just that USB is more than fast enough to handle DV capturing duties.

Apologies all around. You just can't make ID jokes around here without riling someone up I guess. Didn't mean to be a prick.
I think the last thing anyone associated with Rails needs is a boost to the ego.

It's because simulated sex is boring. People watch porn instead. Much better than the crap you'll get on tv and in movies.
On the other hand, simulated violence is more exciting than the real thing, because we all know no one got hurt.
I think they should locate it around 14th and K NW, so when things get boring, people can step outside and purchase a quick round of fellatio.
We don't, we prefer Aqua ;)
Well, you disagree with words you are "putting in my mouth," as it were, but everything I actually put in my post, you agree with.
Please don't draw inferences and then make arguments about them. It's annoying and childish.
I didn't reply to anything. I guess if you want to be an arrogant cock, you'd better make sure your own shit doesn't stink.

Flamebait is indeed harsh. It should have been modded off-topic, since it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
Of course, since both mods have the same overall effect, I think flamebait is actually fair, and you're just a whiner.
I left Firefox running overnight by accident, and when I woke up, the working set was over 2 gigs. I think that might be a touch excessive.
I still like it as a browser, though.

Yes, I'm that confused by this lawsuit that I can't even get a simple acronym right.
WCF acronym are you talking about?
